Clinton Endorsed by the Progressive Action PAC

Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of the Progressive Action PAC on Monday. In a release the group praised Clinton saying that she “shares our ideals and has worked to improve the lives of Americans her entire adult life – as an activist, a litigator, a First Lady, a Senator, and then a Secretary of State.” Clinton released a statement in which she praises the group’s work as “a champion for working people” and looks forward to working with them if she is elected. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below:

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Congressional Progressive Caucus’ Progressive Action PAC.

For 25 years, the CPC has been a champion for working people and on behalf of Americans who have been left out and left behind. And CPC members know, as I do, that we are stronger together.

We are stronger when we have each others’ backs. That’s why we will fight to secure universal health care, raise the minimum wage, and protect Americans’ fundamental right to vote–not corporations’ right to buy elections. It’s why we will face up to the reality of systemic racism, and fix it together. And it’s why we will say ‘no’ to trade agreements like the Trans-Pacific Partnership that would hurt American workers, and fully enforce our trade laws to protect American jobs.

We are stronger when all our people can retire with dignity and security after years of hard work. That is why we will stand up to Republican efforts to undermine or privatize the bedrock promise of Social Security—and we’ll fight to expand it.

Hillary Clinton Interviewed on CNN, PBS

On Friday, Hillary Clinton appeared on CNN where she was interviewed by Wolf Blitzer. During the interview, Blitzer asked Clinton about the conclusion of the FBI’s investigation into her email practices as Secretary of State. She said, “It was a mistake for me to use personal email. And I regret that. I am certainly relieved and glad that the investigation has concluded but I also know how important it is to make sure everybody understands that I would certainly not do that again.” The State Department has opened an inquiry into Clinton’s email use as well as email use in the department.

Clinton and Blitzer also discussed recent racial tensions including the police killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile and the murder of five police officers in Dallas. Clinton responded saying that we need to more as a country to respect each other and the police. She spoke about her proposed plans for criminal justice reform saying that there needs to be a clearer guideline for police to use force, and more needs to be done to protect our law enforcement officers. Update: Clinton also spoke with Judy Woodruff for PBS NewHour. During the interview, Clinton called for a national standard for police forces to follow in light of the events in Baton Rouge, Minnesota, and Dallas. Woodruff also asked Clinton about the FBI’s investigation into her email server. Clinton challenged the call by many Republicans to revoke her access to classified material. She argued that she has been mindful of sensitive information saying, “Well, I think there is a lot of evidence to that, based on eight years as a senator handling a lot of classified material, based as four years as a secretary of state, handling classified material, which, in my view, didn’t include what was sent on an unclassified system, and certainly was the judgment of the hundreds of people with experience and expertise who dealt with me.” A video of the interview is below and a transcript is available HERE.

Clinton Campaign Releases New Ads Featuring her Leadership

On Thursday, Hillary for America released two new campaign ads featuring Hillary Clinton’s steady leadership as Secretary of State. The commercial spots contrast her leadership with the divisive comments of Republican Donald Trump. Both ads argue that Clinton is the better prepared candidate to lead the United States at home and abroad. Both ads are included below.

Hillary for America Statement on FBI Director Comey’s Testimony Before House Committee

On Thursday, FBI Director James Comey appeared before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to answer questions about the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email practices as Secretary of State. House Republicans grilled Comey on the details and the scope of the investigation. Comey explained that there was not a case against Clinton because the material that should have not been shared via email was not marked properly. He also denied claims that the Justice Department worked with Clinton and her allies to ensure no charges were leveled against her.

Hillary for America National Press Secretary Brian Fallon released the following statement regarding the Comey’s testimony:

“Despite the partisan motivations of this hearing, we are glad it took place and that Director Comey had the opportunity to expand upon his remarks from earlier this week. Director Comey’s testimony clearly knocked down a number of false Republican talking points and reconciled apparent contradictions between his previous remarks and Hillary Clinton’s public statements. The Director’s explanations shut the door on any remaining conspiracy theories once and for all. While Republicans may try to keep this issue alive, this hearing proved those efforts will only backfire.”

FBI Recommends No Charges following Clinton Email Investigation

On Tuesday, FBI Director James Comey spoke about his department’s investigation into the handling of classified material by Hillary Clinton and her staff during her tenure as Secretary of State. The bureau ultimately decided not to bring any criminal charges against Clinton or any of her staff members, but Director Comey did have some harsh words. He said that both Clinton and her staff were “extremely careless” in handling sensitive material. He went on to say that security in the State Department in general is “lacking.” A video from Director Comey’s press conference is below:

House Benghazi Committee Releases Final Report

The House Select Committee on Benghazi concluded its multi-year investigation into the terrorist attack on the United States Diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. The attack resulted in the death of U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith. After reviewing evidence and conducting countless interviews, the committee released its findings at the end of June.

There has been controversy surrounding the committee since its creation in 2014. Democrats have accused Republicans as using the attacks in Benghazi as a way to harm Hillary Clinton’s presidential aspirations. Its critics point to the endless investigations, many of which concluded before the committee was created in 2014. Because of this, the Republican majority and the Democratic minority of the committee have agreed on little. In fact, they even have separate websites covering the investigation. These divisions were made more apparent when Clinton testified for over 10 hours before the committee in October 2015.

On June 27, the minority members of the committee released their findings in a report led by Representative Elijah Cummings. In the report, the minority members focus on the way the committee has acted and the cost to tax payers for an investigation that ultimately yielded no new findings. They also complained that they were largely left out the process of writing the primary report that was released the next day. The report, which consists of 340 pages, is primarily a criticism of the handling of the investigation by the Republicans on the committee and their limited focus on Clinton.

The Republicans released their final report on June 28, a day after the Democrats. In 869 pages, the committee’s Republicans, led by Representative Trey Gowdy, harshly criticized the State Department, Defense Department, and CIA for failing to fully understand the situation that led to the attack in Benghazi. The report criticizes the delayed action by the Obama administration following the attacks. Overall, the committee failed to find any new evidence that changed the narrative of the attack nor could they prove that Clinton was in any way negligent. Instead, the report largely blames systemic issues for the poor response to the attack.

While the committee is responsible for discovering that Clinton used a private email server as Secretary of State, the findings of the committee largely echo that of an investigations conducted by the State Department in 2012 and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 2013. During the Senate hearings in January 2013, Clinton accepted full responsibility for the State Department’s failures leading up to and following the attack. She also spoke about security funding that was cut by Congress arguing that those cuts have made United States diplomatic posts less secure around the world and she urged Congress to increase funding to ensure the safety of diplomats.

Since the release of the report early this week, Clinton has been asked for her thoughts. While she has not had much to say, she did offer a comment late this week saying, “I’ll leave it to others to characterize this report, but I think it’s pretty clear it’s time to move on.”

While many agree that it is time to move on, we want to ensure that the report, and every other report released on the Benghazi investigation are fully available to readers in the interest of full transparency. Hillary Clinton Interviewed by MSNBC’s Chuck Todd

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton was interviewed for MSNBC by Chuck Todd. The interview came after Clinton was voluntarily interviewed by the FBI about her use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State. During the phone interview, Clinton said that she could not give details, but that she was ready to talk to the FBI when they were ready. “I’ve been eager to do it and I was pleased to have the opportunity to assist the department in bringing its review to a conclusion,” she said. Hillary Clinton Interviewed about Email Server by the FBI

On Saturday morning, Hillary Clinton gave a voluntary interview with the Department of Justice and FBI about her email setup during her tenure as Secretary of State. The interview took place at FBI headquarters and lasted approximately three and a half hours. The FBI is currently investigating  Clinton’s use of a private email server while she served in the State Department. The FBI is expected to release its finding in the next few weeks. Following the interview, Hillary for America spokesman Nick Merrill released the following statement:

“Secretary Clinton gave a voluntary interview this morning about her email arrangements while she was Secretary. She is pleased to have had the opportunity to assist the Department of Justice in bringing this review to a conclusion. Out of respect for the investigative process, she will not comment further on her interview.”

Bill Clinton Attends HFA Fundraiser

On Friday, Bill Clinton attended a fundraiser for the Hillary Victory Fund. The event was held in Chicago, Illinois. Also attending a fundraiser in support of Hillary Clinton today was New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. He spoke at an event in Miami, Florida. Yesterday, a fundraiser was held in Washington, DC and included a conversation with Senior Policy Advisor Jake Sullivan, Former Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell, Congressional Outreach Liaison Laura Schiller, and Senior Advisor to the Vice Chair Lona Valmoro.

Clinton Releases New Campaign Ads

On Thursday, Hillary Clinton’s campaign began airing a series of new campaign ads targeting Republican Donald Trump and setting up the general election fight. One of the commercials go after Trump’s divisive speeches and rhetoric and paints Clinton as a more positive and uplifting leader. The other two feature Clinton’s career and her work to help children get the health care coverage they needed. These ads, which are included in this post, will air in eight key battleground states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia.
