Clinton Endorsed by the Communications Workers of America

On Monday, Hillary Clinton was endorsed by the Communications Workers of America. In a statement released by the group, they said Clinton “has stood with CWA members and pledges her commitment to making life better for working families.” Clinton released a statement saying that she is honored to have received the group’s endorsement and looks forward to working with them if elected president. “I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Communications Workers of America.

For decades, the CWA has connected Americans to each other—and along the way, they’ve helped build the American middle class.

As President, I will always stand with the CWA to protect workers’ fundamental rights to organize, to bargain collectively, to be safe on the job, and to retire with dignity and security after years of hard work. I was proud to join the CWA on the picket line this year as they stood up to Verizon and fought for a fair deal.

And I will do everything in my power to defend American jobs and American workers. Any trade deal must meet three tests to earn my support: It must create good American jobs, raise wages, and advance our national security. I do not believe that the Trans-Pacific Partnership meets this high standard. That’s why I oppose the TPP — and that means before and after the election.

Above all, we must make sure unions have a seat at the table and a champion in the White House. Because when workers are strong, families are strong—and when families are strong, America is strong.”

Hillary Clinton Statement on Brexit Vote

On Thursday, voters in the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union. There were many voices arguing for and against the move, but Hillary Clinton had been on the side of the United Kingdom remaining in the EU. Despite the vote, there remains a long process (at least two years) for the UK to leave the EU. Clinton released a statement today in which she said that she respected the choice the people of the UK made, and she wishes to continue the strong relationship between the United States and UK. “We respect the choice the people of the United Kingdom have made.  Our first task has to be to make sure that the economic uncertainty created by these events does not hurt working families here in America.  We also have to make clear America’s steadfast commitment to the special relationship with Britain and the transatlantic alliance with Europe.  This time of uncertainty only underscores the need for calm, steady, experienced leadership in the White House to protect Americans’ pocketbooks and livelihoods, to support our friends and allies, to stand up to our adversaries, and to defend our interests.  It also underscores the need for us to pull together to solve our challenges as a country, not tear each other down.”

UPDATE (6/26):

The Clinton campaign has released a national TV ad criticizing Republican Donald Trump’s reaction to the Brexit vote. Trump’s response was not one of concern for how the vote would affect the United States economy or our allies in the European Union and United Kingdom, instead, Trump seemed happy because he felt that his businesses would do better as a result of the weakening of the British Pound. The Clinton ad is below:

Hilary Clinton Endorsed by BCTGM

On Thursday, the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM) announced that it was endorsing Hillary Clinton for President of the United States. In a statement, BCTGM President David B. Durkee said, “Hillary Clinton has had a solid record of support on those issues most important to working families and union members, including workers’ rights and  organizing, workplace health and safety, health care, progressive tax policy and retirement security.” Clinton released a statement saying that she is proud to have earned the group’s endorsement, and she vowed to fight for union rights. Members of the BCTGM don’t just help feed America—they helped build the greatest middle class in history.

Members of the BCTGM know, as I do, that we are stronger together, when we are investing in our people and in the future. That’s why I have a comprehensive manufacturing agenda to create good-paying jobs and spur new industries—because we can and we will “make it in America.” I was honored to meet with BCTGM members in Chicago earlier this year who had been trying to work with Nabisco to keep good-paying jobs in America. For years, Nabisco had received tax breaks and investments from the people of Chicago and the people of Illinois to expand production—only to turn their backs on their workers and on the community by announcing plans to shut down the long-standing factory and move production to Mexico. That’s wrong. Hillary Clinton Endorsed by the AFL-CIO

On Thursday, Hillary Clinton earned the endorsement of the largest group of labor unions in the country, the AFL-CIO. Representing 12.5 million members, the board voted to support Clinton. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said, “Hillary Clinton is a proven leader who shares our values. Throughout the campaign, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to the issues that matter to working people, and our members have taken notice. The activism of working people has already been a major force in this election and is now poised to elect Hillary Clinton and move America forward.” Clinton released a statement saying she is honored to receive the group’s support and vowed to fight for labor rights. Hillary Clinton Endorsed by IFPTE

On Thursday, the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) endorsed Hillary Clinton for President of the United States. In their release, President Gregory Junemann said, “She is also solidly in the corner of working Americans, as is reflected in her opposition to the damaging Trans-Pacific Partnership, and her strong support for collective bargaining rights.” Clinton responded to the endorsement by releasing a statement saying that she is “honored to have earned the endorsement,” and she vows to work with the IFPTE to ensure American workers are protected. Hillary Clinton Wraps up Three Days of Campaigning in California

On Thursday, Hillary Clinton wrapped up a three day campaign trip to California. She began in Las Vegas, Nevada, however, where she attended the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Legislative and Political Affairs Conference. During her speech, Clinton said that Republican nominee Donald Trump is an urgent threat to workers’ rights. She said, “I’ve heard over and over again there has never been more at stake for working families in America than there is right now.” Clinton spoke about her plans to support labor unions, grow the middle class, and focus on the creation of new jobs. Clinton then traveled to San Jose where she spoke at an organizing event. She spoke about Trump again and since he is now the Republican nominee as he has secured the required number of delegates, the stakes of the 2016 election could not be higher. She spoke about a number of her platform points including defending women’s rights, fighting for equal pay, raising the minimum wage, continuing to improve the Affordable Care Act, and lowering the cost of higher education. Clinton then asked for voters’ support during the primary on June 7.

Clinton’s final event of the day was a Get Out the Vote event in San Francisco. During the event, Clinton focused on the issues and her platform proposals. She spoke about making college debt free, making community colleges free, raising the minimum wage, investing in clean energy, and continuing to improve the health care system. Clinton went on to explain why the 2016 election is so important and why electing a Democrat is so important. “Our economy does better when we have a Democrat in the White House,” she said. Meanwhile, Chelsea Clinton attended a fundraiser on behalf of Hillary for America in New York City.

Hillary Clinton Endorsed by the UAW

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of the United Auto Workers (UAW). During their announcement, the union cited Clinton’s “lifelong commitment to the job security of American families, and her ability to unify and win in November” as the reason for their support. Clinton responded by issuing a statement saying that she is “honored” to received the UAW’s endorsement. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below.

“I am honored to have received the endorsement of the United Autoworkers and their more than 400,000 members.

Every day, the UAW shows us that we can and we will ‘Make it in America.’ The U.S. auto industry has come roaring back from the great recession and just posted its best year ever—because the U.S. auto industry has the world’s best, hardest-working, most innovative and most creative workforce.

We need to keep going—and we need a President who will always stand with working families. Today, about one in five cars built in North America come from Mexico—double the share in 2004. That’s why autoworkers need more than tough talk on trade. They need a President who knows how to compete and win for American workers. I have said for years that I want to see NAFTA renegotiated to give American workers a level playing field. And we need to take on new challenges, like weak auto “rules of origin” standards that provide a backdoor for Chinese steel and other products into the U.S. We’re going to throw the book at China and stop them from cheating American workers.

As President, I will stand with the United Autoworkers in protecting workers’ fundamental right to organize and bargain collectively, including in their fight to organize the VW plant in Chattanooga. Hillary Clinton Kicks Off Three Days of Campaigning in California

On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton attended three events in California with the first being a discussion on foster care in Los Angeles. During the small discussion event, she toured a foster care facility with Representative Karen Bass. She also spoke with a number of families. Clinton then traveled to Commerce where she attended a discussion with working families. The event was held at a local union hall and she criticized Republican nominee Donald Trump during the event for rooting for the housing crisis saying, “He actually said he was hoping for the crash that caused hardworking families in California and across America to lose their homes. All because he thought he could take advantage of it and make some money for himself.”

Clinton’s final event of the day was an organizing event in Riverside. She continued to criticize Trump for a number of his proposals and explained that it is important for everyone to be working together and not incite fear and divisiveness. She spoke about a number of her platform points including continuing to create new jobs, continuing to grow the economy, raising the minimum wage, and expanding health care so 100% of Americans are covered. She concluded by asking for voters’ support during the primary on June 7.

Hillary Clinton Releases Statement of Support of new Overtime Rules

Today, the Department of Labor released updated standards guaranteeing that employees who earn up to $913 a week will receive overtime pay for any hours worked over a typical forty hour work week. The new rules are an increase over the previous threshold of $455 a week. Hillary Clinton released a statement supporting the move, but saying that there was still work to be done to ensure everyone earns a living wage. Clinton’s statement is below:

“I applaud President Obama and Secretary of Labor Perez for these final overtime rules, which will lift up workers nationwide and help get incomes rising again for working families. Within the first year these rules are in effect, millions more workers will be eligible for overtime, finally getting paid in full for the hours they are putting in on the job.

But we have more work to do. No one who works 40 hours a week should have to raise a family in poverty. No one should have their fundamental rights to organize and bargain collectively stripped away by Republicans and their corporate allies. That’s why we need to raise the federal minimum wage back to the highest it’s ever been in this country and make sure it keeps rising over time, protect workers’ rights and safety on the job, and restore the basic bargain that built America’s mighty middle class—that if you work hard and play by the rules, you can get ahead and stay ahead.”

Hillary Clinton Campaigns in Pennsylvania

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton attended two organizing events in Pennsylvania ahead of their primary on April 26. Her first stop was in Philadelphia where she spoke at the AFL-CIO Convention. During her speech, she expressed her confidence that she would be the Democratic nominee for president and vowed to make labor and the economy a priority as president. She also criticized comments made by Republican front runner Donald Trump saying, “You’ve got other candidates talking about building walls and putting up barriers against each other, right? My campaign is about breaking down all the barriers holding working families back. My campaign is about building again those ladders of opportunity and empowerment so people can claim their own piece of the American dream.” A full video of her speech is below.

Clinton then spoke at an organizing event on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Clinton spoke to a crowd of about 2,000 people who crowded in the gymnasium and on the lawn outside to hear her speak, and she apologized for not speaking at a larger venue. During her speech, Clinton spoke about her plans to continue the progress of President Barack Obama’s administration by improving heath care, making higher education more affordable for those in school and those paying off school debt, and expanding clean energy.
