Hillary Clinton Holds Four Events in California

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton attended four campaign events in California. The first event of the day was a community discussion in Slymar. The primary topic of the event was immigration reform. Clinton said that immigration is going to be a key issue in the 2016 election because statements about immigrants made by Republican nominee Donald Trump are often “hateful, very prejudicial, really unacceptable ways.” She spoke about the importance of keeping families together and passing comprehensive immigration reform. Most of the event was Clinton listening to stories told by the several Asian and Latino immigrants. She vowed to fight for a fair immigration plan if elected president.

Clinton then traveled to Oxnard where she spoke to supporters at a Get Out the Vote event. She covered a number of her platform points, but she went after Trump several times throughout the speech saying that he “fails” a number of important presidential trait tests. Clinton said that the 2016 election is very important to ensure the country continues to move forward with health care, the economy, clean energy, and climate change. She concluded by asking voters’ to support her in Tuesday’s primary. A video of Clinton’s speech is below.

Later, Clinton traveled to Santa Barbara where she held a community event focused on women and families. The round table discussion consisted of local officials and representatives. Clinton spoke about a number of her platform points aimed at improving the lives of women and helping families. She spoke about increasing the minimum wage, ensuring that women receive equal pay for equal work, ensuring families have access to affordable childcare, and guaranteeing workers paid family leave. The final event of the day was a Get Out the Vote rally in Fresno where she spoke to packed crowd of supporters at Edison High School. While she criticized Trump on a number of occasions, Clinton covered a number of her key platform points including early childhood education, clean energy, abortion rights, marriage equality, immigration reform, and making higher education more affordable. She also spoke about an issue that is local to Fresno: water. The city has seen water shortages due to the recent droughts in the area and she said, “If I am fortunate enough to be your president, we are going to work on water and we are going to get this fixed.” A video from the event will be added when/if available.

Hillary Clinton Campaigns in Wisconsin

On Monday, Hillary Clinton returned to the campaign trail following a brief break for Easter. She began a two day trip to Wisconsin before their April 5 primary. In Madison, Clinton spoke to supporters at the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus where she focused her speech on the Supreme Court. She urged the Senate to stop playing politics and hold confirmation hearings for President Barack Obama’s choice of Merrick Garland for the court. She criticized Republican Senators for bragging about blocking the nomination and she urged voters to contact Sen. Ron Johnson and urge him to follow the Constitution. Clinton spoke about the importance of the Supreme Court and how the 2016 election could change the court for decades to come and affect such issues as immigration reform, abortion rights, climate change, voting rights, and campaign finance. Clinton then spoke at an Organizing Event held at Mary Ryan Boys and Girls Club in Milwaukee. During the event, she spoke about a number of her platform points including health care. But the topic she focused on was higher education. She said her plan to make college more affordable would include an increase in grants and the expansion of the work study program. Students receiving federal aid would be required to work on campus ten hours a week. She criticized the plan of Democratic rival Bernie Sanders saying, “Here’s the problem [with Sander’s plan], I don’t believe we should be asking you to pay taxes to send Donald Trump’s kids to college for free. I think if you’re wealthy you should pay for college yourself, and we should focus on middle class and poor families.”

Before her events in Wisconsin, Clinton attended a fundraiser in Chicago, Illinois. The event was held at the home of JoAnne Cicchelli and Bill Singer and hosted by Jane and Bob Clark, Raj Fernando, Linda and Jeff Hammes, and David Rosen. Meanwhile in New York City, a fundraiser was hosted featuring Chef Marianna Morrison and Campaign Chair John Podesta. The event was hosted by Ambassador Gabriel Guerra-Mondragón.

State Department Releases Final Batch of Clinton’s Emails

Today, the State Department released the final batch of emails from Hillary Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State. While the State Department had planned to release all of the emails by January 29, they were granted an extension. The final batch of emails released today contained 3,800 pages, bringing the total up to over 52,000 pages. Of the emails turned over by Clinton, 2,100 were withheld for containing information that is now deemed classified. During the announcement today, the State Department also said that none of the emails Clinton sent or received on her private server were marked as classified at the time they were sent. This is something that has repeatedly asserted.

On several occasion, Clinton has said that she wants the emails available to the public in the interest of transparency. News organizations will release quotes from a few of her emails, but anyone can access all of Clinton’s emails. Since the release of the emails is part of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), all the emails are being posted to the State Department’s FOIA website. To access the emails, follow the steps below:

1. Go to http://foia.state.gov/Search
2. Type “F-2014-20439” in the Case Number field
3. Click on the arrow next to the “Posted Date” column header and select “Sort Descending” so that the recently released documents show first
4. Click the title of the document in the “Subject” field to open a PDF copy

Next Batch of Clinton Emails Released

Today, the State Department released another batch of emails from Hillary Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State. Clinton has said on several occasions that she wants the emails available to the public in the interest of transparency. News organizations release quotes from a few of her emails, but anyone can access the latest emails. Since the release of the emails is part of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), all the emails are being posted to the State Department’s FOIA website. To access the emails that have been released so far, follow the steps below:

This batch of emails includes approximately 5,500 pages, which falls short of the 8,000 page monthly requirement. The State Department said that additional pages will be released next week. According to an FOIA court order, the entire collection of Clinton’s emails should be released by January 29, 2016. CGI Annual Meeting: Putting Education to Work

Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared at the third day of scheduled discussions at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting. The discussion, “Putting Education to Work,” was in two parts. The first part was a panel which included Cisco CEO John Chambers, United Arab Emirates Minister of State Reem Al Hashimy, Education for Employment Alumna Nisreen Mitwally, and Mara Foundation Founder Ashish Thakkar. The group discussed the future of education in the United States.

For the second part of the discussion, Clinton took the stage after the panel to deliver the closing remarks. She talked about the future of education and how businesses in America need to invest in eduction as they go hand-in-hand. On the job training and education are both important to businesses, and Clinton announced that many business had committed to help CGI with their efforts.

At the end of the speech, Clinton was joined on stage by Chelsea Clinton to announce CGI’s progress in its efforts to protect the African Elephant and stop poaching, stop illegal trafficking, and stop the demand for elephant ivory. Hillary and Chelsea were also joined by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, President of the Gabonese Republic Ali Bongo Ondimba, and representatives from Vietnam, Zambia, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, and the United States State Department. President Bongo spoke on behalf of the group. After the speech, the group was joined on stage by representatives of several wildlife foundations who have partnered with CGI to protect the elephant.

CGI Annual Meeting Begins Tomorrow

The 10th Annual Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting begins tomorrow and runs through Wednesday, September 24. The event is being held in New York City and will feature a wide variety of speakers including Matt Damon, General Motors CEO Mary Barra, King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan, Melinda Gates, President Barack Obama, and countless other world leaders, CEOs, and leaders of non-profit groups that have partnered with CGI. The event will feature four days of roundtable discussions covering a wide variety of topics including the environment, leadership, education, and women’s rights. Former President Bill Clinton, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Chelsea Clinton are hosting the Annual Meeting and will participate in a number of the discussions.

This year’s theme is “Reimagining Impact” which CGI has designed “to facilitate the development of forward-thinking approaches that re-envision the way we impact the world.” The key idea throughout the discussions and breakout sessions will be creating a better future. The majority of the sessions include a number of speakers from different backgrounds to bring a unique perspective to each topic. Hillary will participate in five of the discussions, which are outlined below (all times are EST):
