Hillary Clinton Encourages Early Voting in Iowa

On Friday, Hillary Clinton returned to Iowa where she stressed the importance of voting at events in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines. During the event in Cedar Rapids, Clinton stressed the importance of the election saying that it is in the hands of voters to decide what type of country we want. She said, “The choice is yours as to what kind of country we will have.” Clinton attacked her Republican rival, Donald Trump, for his divisive campaign tactics and disrespectful comments about women, immigrants, and Muslims. She spoke about a number of her platform points focusing on women’s issues such as reproductive rights, equal pay, and paid family leave. She concluded by urging everyone to get out an vote on election day or to take advantage of early voting. A video from the event is below.

In Des Moines, Clinton spoke at Roosevelt High School about the importance of voting and taking advantage of early voting in Iowa. Clinton spoke about a number of platform points including her plans to grow the economy, create jobs by investing in infrastructure and clean energy, and making college more affordable for students, both past and future. She criticized the vision for America outlined by Trump and said that it is important that we continue the progress started by President Barack Obama. Watch a video of Clinton’s speech below.

Clinton Visits Ohio and Wisconsin

On Thursday, Hillary Rodham Clinton made two appearances at Women for Hillary organizational rallies. The first was in Columbus, Ohio where she talked about women’s issues and her pledge to defend Planned Parenthood. In a clear reference to presidential candidate Donald Trump, she told the crowd of 500 that she was looking forward to debating “one particular candidate who just seems to delight in insulting women every chance he gets.” A full video of the speech is below (we apologize for the quality, and it will be replaced when/if another video is made available).

Her second stop was in Wisconsin, her first visit to the state since launching her presidential campaign. The event was held at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she focused on labor issue, and in particular, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s stance against unions. Clinton attacked Walker, now a Republican presidential candidate, saying, “What happens when you’re a proud union member and you have a governor who wants to drive you out?” She pledged her support for labor unions across Wisconsin and the country. Clinton Focuses on Women’s Issues in South Carolina

Hillary Rodham Clinton visited South Carolina for the first time since announcing her presidential campaign. In Columbia, Clinton began by meeting with six minority women business owners at Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles. She held a roundtable where the business owners shared their ideas and concerns with Clinton.

Clinton then delivered the keynote address at the South Carolina Democratic Women’s Council’s Day in Blue conference. She spoke about a woman’s right to equal pay saying that the issue was not only a women’s issue, but a family issue. She said, “When any parent is short-changed, the entire family is short-changed, and if families are short-changed, Americans are short-changed.” She advocated for strengthening the middle class and said that equal pay for women was a step in the right direction. Clinton proposed a paycheck fairness act that would provide the legal framework for business to disclose salaries for positions to ensure women are not being short-changed. Data 2X Announcement

Hillary Rodham Clinton, along with the Bloomberg Foundation, spoke on behalf of Data 2X, a effort run by the United Nations Foundation. The group’s goal is to fill in the gaps related to available data about women’s issues in the developing world. Data 2X was launched by Clinton when she was Secretary of State, but today’s announcement was adding the partnership of the Clinton Foundation and Bloomberg Foundation. At the event, Clinton said that data is important because it clearly demonstrates failures and progress. She also spoke about how she has been treated at times when discussing women’s issues with US and foreign officials. She said, “You could just see the wheels turning: ‘Oh right, I knew she was going to raise women and girls. I will just smile, it will pass, and then we will talk about really important things.’”
