Clinton Wraps Up 2-Day California Campaign Trip

On Thursday and Friday, Hillary Clinton traveled a cross the state of California attending fundraisers and hosting an organizing event. During an event in the San Gabriel Valley, Clinton launched AAPI for Hillary and focused on the Asian-American and Pacific Islander community. Clinton spoke about her plans for immigration reform, improving access to higher education, and raising wages. She also took the opportunity to blast the rhetoric of Republicans saying, “They forget a fundamental lesson about our great country. Being an open and tolerant society does not make us vulnerable. It’s at the core of our strength.” A video from the event is below.

While in California, Clinton attended a six fundraisers. On Thursday, Clinton attend an event hosted by hosted by Lisa Henson and David Pressler in Los Angeles. While in Los Angeles, Clinton met up with Warren Buffett to attend a fundraiser hosted by Karen Mack Goldsmith and Russell Goldsmith. Friday, Clinton headed to the San Francisco area where she attended a fundraiser hosted by Diana Nelson followed by a New Year Celebration at the Innovation Hanger. She wrapped up the day by attending a private event hosted by Sarah and Greg Sands in Palo Alto.

Clinton Supports Buffett Rule

Today in Omaha, Nebraska, Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of billionaire investor Warren Buffet. He introduced Clinton during an event held at Sokol Auditorium where she gave a speech outlining part of her tax plan, including her support of the Buffett Rule. The proposed Buffett Rule would set a minimum tax rate on individuals making over one million dollars a year. With the loopholes of the tax system, many who making over $250,000 a year pay a lower percentage in taxes than someone making significantly less. Clinton said that her agenda would increase taxes on the wealthy to ensure they pay their fair share while cutting taxes for the middle class. She also outlined a number of tax credits that would be made available for heath care and care for the elderly. Clinton said, “I want to be the president for the struggling, the striving and the successful.” A video of Buffett’s introduction and Clinton’s speech is below.

Clinton Outlines Anti-Terrorism Strategy

At an event held on the campus University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Hillary Clinton outlined her plan to prevent jihadist recruitment and radicalization. Her plan consists of five parts:

1. Stop ISIS recruitment in the United States, especially online
2. Prevent would-be jihadists from getting training overseas, and prevent foreign terrorists from coming to the United States
3. Discover and disrupt terror plots before they can be carried out
4. Support law enforcement officers
5. Empower Muslim-American communities to fight radicalization

Clinton also called for a measure that would prevent people on the no-fly list from buying a gun. She said, “They’ll [Republicans] say that guns are a totally separate issue – nothing to do with terrorism. I have news for them. Terrorists use guns to kill Americans, and I think we should make it a lot harder for them to ever do that again.” Today’s proposals are in addition to her plans to defeat ISIS, which she laid out last month.
