Hillary Clinton Statement on UNITE HERE Endorsement

Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of UNITE HERE on Tuesday. In a release, the group said that they support Clinton because of her efforts to help families, her support of universal health care, and her work toward comprehensive immigration reform. In a statement, Clinton said that she is honored to earn the group’s endorsement and vowed to fight for American workers and the middle class as president. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below.

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of UNITE HERE.

American workers built the greatest middle class in history by fighting for higher wages, safer working conditions, retirement security and the right to organize and bargain collectively.  UNITE HERE has been on the front lines for decades, fighting to raise the minimum wage and reform our broken immigration system. They’ve stood strong to protect the rights and safety of workers across the country—and they’ve stood up to presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, who personally signed a contract with a union-busting firm to try to keep UNITE HERE from organizing workers in Las Vegas. I was proud to visit with UNITE HERE workers on the picket line twice in the primary, and I was even prouder when they overcame Trump’s intimidation campaign and were officially certified as a union earlier this year.

UNITE HERE knows, as I do, that America is stronger together. Workers’ rights to organize, to bargain collectively, to be safe on the job, and to retire with dignity and security after years of hard work are fundamental to our country and to our economy. In too many statehouses across the country—and even in the halls of Congress—these rights are under concerted attack by Republicans and big corporations who have forgotten that a strong economy requires a strong workforce. If I am elected President, workers will always have a seat at the table and a champion in the White House. Two years ago, Republicans were envisioning a united GOP convention in Cleveland that would help them win a critical presidential battleground. But that dream never came to fruition. This week, the choice facing Ohio voters in November will crystallize as Donald Trump — and his divisive rhetoric, dangerous ideas, and record of selling out American workers to profit personally — descends on Ohio.

Already, Ohio Republicans are fleeing Trump’s candidacy following more than a year of words and deeds that prove he is temperamentally unfit to serve as president.  Elected and Republican Party officials are using phrases like “condescending and simplistic,” “very deep reservations,”  “embarrasses me,” “the opposite of how my husband and I are trying to raise our children,” “total disaster,” “hasn’t impressed me at all,” “a very dangerous president,” and “not fit to hold office anywhere in this country” to describe the man set to formally accept their party’s nomination in Cleveland.

Ohio Republicans, just like Americans across the country, are looking at Trump and deciding that we are better than this.

The negative reviews of the GOP’s nominee are far from outliers, and Ohio Republican operatives and consultants have been similarly blunt in assessing how Trump has squandered his first months as the presumptive nominee. Local Republican activists have been dismayed by the lack of a Trump organization, many Ohio operatives have refused to work for him, and even now Trump is relying completely on the state Republican Party’s field efforts. This same group helped defeat him in the primary and has 75% fewer staff than expected. As Cleveland.com put it: “Stop us if you’ve heard this before: The GOP has ground game issues in Ohio.”

While Trump is creating disunity and exasperation with Republicans here, Ohioans are uniting behind Hillary Clinton’s candidacy, driven by the shared belief that we are stronger together. More than 2,000 individuals from more than 300 towns, cities and municipalities across Ohio have shared their own personal stories for supporting Hillary Clinton with us – many are now engaging their friends and neighbors online.

Public polling will show a tight race in Ohio every day up to November 8, so we are taking nothing for granted. For months, we have been working to build the kind of grassroots organization that helps Democrats up and down the ballot win close elections in Ohio and across the country. Earlier this month, organizers registered voters at 28 different Fourth of July parades.  By the end of this week, the Ohio campaign will have a dozen offices open in communities around the state – with dozens more on the way.

Engaging voters where they are and using the latest and most prevalent tactics is critical to any candidate’s path to victory in Ohio every four years. Grassroots organizers and volunteers for Hillary for Ohio are employing every digital tool at their disposal — Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, email, text messages, Snapchat, and even Pokémon GO to reach new volunteers and unregistered voters.

Equally important to the number of voter contacts is the quality of those contacts. Collectively, local organizers in Ohio have completed 4,441 hours – or more than six months worth – of training. It is a reflection of both the breadth of our organization here, as well as the seriousness with which we view the work they are doing.

Hillary Clinton has been back to Ohio four times since the state’s primary, engaging Ohioans in a conversation about how we raise wages, create more jobs, make the economy work for everyone not just those at the top — and end division so we can be united and strong.  In a visit to Athens, she focused on the aspirations and needs of families in often overlooked or underserved communities. In Cleveland in June, she discussed the horrific shooting in Orlando and the need for our nation to unite in resolve to end violence and defend against terrorism. And in Columbus, she laid out — using Trump’s own words — how the self-described ‘King of Debt’ would endanger the American economy as president. And on Monday, she will campaign alongside campaign volunteers in Cincinnati and address the NAACP’s annual conference there, while Trump will be the only presidential candidate of either party in the past 20 years not to attend.

While Donald Trump’s offensive and divisive words are streaming from Republican National Convention into Ohio homes, we will be using every day of this week to expand our campaign in Ohio and talk to voters about Hillary Clinton’s belief that we are stronger together because know at stake in just 114 days is the future of our country and we can’t afford to waste a single minute.

Clinton Endorsed by the Communications Workers of America

On Monday, Hillary Clinton was endorsed by the Communications Workers of America. In a statement released by the group, they said Clinton “has stood with CWA members and pledges her commitment to making life better for working families.” Clinton released a statement saying that she is honored to have received the group’s endorsement and looks forward to working with them if elected president. “I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Communications Workers of America.

For decades, the CWA has connected Americans to each other—and along the way, they’ve helped build the American middle class.

As President, I will always stand with the CWA to protect workers’ fundamental rights to organize, to bargain collectively, to be safe on the job, and to retire with dignity and security after years of hard work. I was proud to join the CWA on the picket line this year as they stood up to Verizon and fought for a fair deal.

And I will do everything in my power to defend American jobs and American workers. Any trade deal must meet three tests to earn my support: It must create good American jobs, raise wages, and advance our national security. I do not believe that the Trans-Pacific Partnership meets this high standard. That’s why I oppose the TPP — and that means before and after the election.

Above all, we must make sure unions have a seat at the table and a champion in the White House. Because when workers are strong, families are strong—and when families are strong, America is strong.”

Hillary Clinton Statement on Passage of Puerto Rico Debt Bill

On Wednesday, Congress passed a debt relief plan for Puerto Rico which has begun defaulting on its debts. The bill has been sent to President Barack Obama for his signature. The bill includes a number of provisions including the creation of an oversight committee. Hillary Clinton released a statement in which she expressed her concern over the creation and appointments to the committee. She vowed to continue working with Puerto Rico if elected president, and promised to work to bring more benefits to the territory. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below:

“Puerto Rico’s continuing economic crisis has caused real suffering for the people of the island.  The bill the Senate passed today is the best chance we have of averting a fiscal crisis on July 1. The bill is by no means perfect, and I continue to have serious concerns about some of the provisions it contains. That’s why, as this bill is implemented, I will continue to stand with the people of Puerto Rico to ensure that the oversight board created by this legislation is made up of members who will act in the best interest of Puerto Ricans, and protect their health care, pensions, wages, and well-being. And it is past time that we put the interests of American citizens ahead of hedge fund profits—which is why I will fight with the people of Puerto Rico to put the island’s economy back on a stable and prosperous path, including by ensuring Puerto Rico is treated equitably under federal law.”

Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren Campaign in Ohio

On Monday, Hillary Clinton and Senator Elizabeth Warren spoke at a rally in Cincinnati, Ohio. Warren spoke first going after Republican Donald Trump and explaining why she fully supports Clinton for president. Clinton then addressed the enthusiastic crowd attacking Trump for his divisive language while speaking about a number of platform points including women’s health and increasing the minimum wage. This was the first time Clinton and Warren have appeared at a rally together leading to speculation that Warren could be Clinton’s running mate. A video from the event is below.

Hillary Clinton Wins Washington, DC Primary

On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton won the Democratic primary in Washington, DC defeating rival Senator Bernie Sanders. With 46.9% of precincts reporting, Clinton currently leads Sanders 78.9% to 20.9%. Clinton secured enough delegates to grab the Democratic nomination following last week’s primaries, and tonight’s election in DC represents the last primary in the cycle. The next event for the Democratic Party will be the Democratic Convention July 25-29, 2016.

Tonight, Clinton and Sanders met in Washington, DC to discuss the path forward and ensure that Republican Donald Trump is not elected president in November. Both campaigns released a statement saying that the meeting went well. A Clinton campaign official said, “The two discussed a variety of progressive issues where they share common goals like raising wages for working families, eliminating undisclosed money in politics and reducing the cost of college for students and their families.” Clinton has made it clear that she is willing to work with Sanders to ensure unity within the Democratic Party, but Sanders has refused to concede.

Hillary Clinton Endorsed by Three California TWU Locals

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton was endorsed by Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) Locals 502, 505, and 250-A. Clinton released a statement saying that she is honored to receive the groups’ endorsement. She spoke about the importance of labor unions and ensuring that transportation workers are treated fairly. “I am honored and grateful to have earned the endorsement of the Transport Workers Union of America Locals 502, 505, and 250-A.

In California and all across the country, the diverse members of the TWU keep our airplanes flying, our trains running, and our buses driving. The members of Locals 502, 505, and 250-A are no exception. They keep passengers and residents alike safe, healthy, and moving every day. In the process, they’ve helped to build the American middle class. And they’ve stood up and demanded the fair treatment and respect that they deserve.

As President, I’ll stand with the workers of Locals 502, 505, and 250-A. I’ll never stop fighting to protect workers’ rights to organize and bargain collectively. Hillary Clinton Campaigns for an Extra Day in California

On Friday, Hillary Clinton spent an extra day in California. The event she attended was a discussion with community leaders in Oakland. Meeting at a local restaurant called Home of Chicken and Waffles, Clinton and a group of local officials and business owners discussed what the federal government can do to help local governments. Describing the purpose of the meeting she said, “I want to know how the federal government and me, particularly, can be a better partner. I want to be a champion for Oakland and all the other Oaklands in the country.” The group discussed a number of topics from wages, jobs, urban policy, and urban renewal. She admitted that there aren’t easy answers for every problem at the local level, but decisions made at the local level are very important. The panel consisted of Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan, Oakland Unified School District Superintendent Antwan Wilson, Regina Jackson, CEO of the East Oakland Youth Development Center, and Derreck Johnson, owner of the Home of Chicken and Waffles.

Hillary Clinton Interviewed by CNN, Attends Events in IN, MI

On Sunday, Hillary Clinton returned to the campaign trail visiting Indiana and Michigan. Her first appearance of the day was in a taped interview on this morning’s State of the Union on CNN. During her interview with Jake Tapper, Clinton refused to call herself the presumptive nominee for the Democratic nomination saying that while she was ahead, there is still work to be done. She also said that she would be willing to work with rival Bernie Sanders in building a progressive platform for the Democratic Party going forward. A video of the full interview is below.

Clinton began her public events today in Indianapolis, Indiana where she spoke at an organizing event. She focused on the importance of the 2016 election and how it will affect key policies and the Supreme Court going forward. Clinton spoke about her manufacturing plans saying, “Indiana has so much potential for the future and I want it to be part of the kind of positive, confident future I’m offering in this election.” Clinton went on to criticize Indiana Governor Mike Pence and the Republican controlled General Assembly for placing strict restriction on abortion access and the passage of a right-to-work law. She said, “I worry very much, and I don’t mean this to be partisan or political, but if you look at what built the American middle class, it really had a lot to do with the rise of the American labor movement. So all the efforts you are seeing in Republican-dominated states to erode (and) undercut unions, I think makes it harder for us to raise middle-class wages, to raise the opportunity for people to go further, to really rebuild the middle class.” A full video from the event is below.

Clinton traveled to Michigan where she was the keynote speaker at the Detroit NAACP Annual Fight For Freedom Fund Dinner. During her speech, she spoke about a number of platform topics including criminal justice reform, prison reform, gun control, and the refinancing of student loan debt. Clinton said that she wanted to continue to the progress of the last eight years. Speaking about President Barack Obama, Clinton said “We cannot let Barack Obama’s legacy fall into Donald Trump’s hands.” A full video of her speech is below.

While in Michigan, Clinton attended a fundraiser in Birmingham that was hosted by Jerry and Caryn Acker, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Hadidi, Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans, Barry and Nicole Goodman, Patti Kukula, and Suzanne Shank.

Hillary Clinton Campaigns in Connecticut, Rhode Island

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton spent the day in Connecticut and Rhode Island. In New Haven, Connecticut, Clinton held a rountable event that focused on working families. The primary topics of discussion were ways to raise wages, including the minimum wage, promote early childhood education, and reduce the wage gap between men and women. On the topic of equal pay, she said, “Equal pay — we shouldn’t be talking about it in 2016. It is almost embarrassing.” Clinton has returned to holding smaller conversational campaign events as she rallies supporters for next week’s primaries in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Clinton then rallied supporters at an organizing event in Central Falls, Rhode Island. During her speech, Clinton spoke about a number of platform topics including women’s rights, organized labor, health care, immigration reform, gun control, and climate change. She also took a shot at her Democratic rival Bernie Sanders by saying, “I am not making promises I can’t keep.” She praised Rhode Islanders and asked for their support on Tuesday.
