On Wednesday, Bill Clinton campaigned on behalf of Hillary Clinton in Iowa. His first stop was in Indianola where he spoke about a number of Hillary’s platform points before challenging Donald Trump’s vision of America. Bill criticized the Trump campaign for its “venom and poison and nastiness,” and he also went after the campaign’s slogan “make America great again.” Bill said he did not like what that implied saying, “That’s an economic and a social message. It is (a message that says), ‘We’ve become too diverse and I’ll move you back up the social totem pole and give you the economy you had 50 years ago.’” Following the event, Bill traveled to his next stop, but made a surprise stop for coffee in Ames. A video from the event will be added when/if available.

Bill’s final event of the day was an organizing event in Waterloo. Speaking for nearly an hour, he spoke about a number of Hillary’s platform points saying that while there has been progress, some people are not seeing it. But Bill said that he does not buy into Trump’s vision of America. “I have heard now for a year and a half how terrible America is, how we’re going to hell in a handbasket, how we’re being by overrun by people from somewhere else, and it’s us against them. So, here we are in Waterloo, you’ve got an African-American mayor. I met in the line people associated with every religion, from at least five different European countries … and at least two Muslims. That’s America,” he said. Bill called for an inclusive country saying that our diverse population is our country’s biggest asset. A video from the event is below.

Anne Holton, meanwhile, spoke at events in Manchester and Salem, New Hampshire. During each event, Holton focused on Hillary’s platform plans to expand education for the youngest Americans as well as those who are going to college. Holton, the former Secretary of Education for Virginia, has been holding roundtable events for the campaign since her husband, Tim Kaine, was announced as Hillary’s running mate. Videos from the events will be posted when/if available.

On Thursday, Tim Kaine campaigned in New Hampshire. He began by attending a coffee event in Portsmouth where he discussed opportunities for young people in the Granite State. Then, Kaine spoke at a rally in Exeter where he criticized Donald Trump’s vision of America and presented Hillary Clinton’s vision to the crowd. He spoke about opportunities for young people, making college more affordable, and building the economy by creating millions of new jobs. “If we’re going to build an economy, it’s got to work for everybody, not just a few. If we’re going to be strong in the world, part of that strength is alliances, rather than just building walls and tearing up alliances,” he said. A video from Kaine’s event in Exeter is below.

Chelsea Clinton campaigned on behalf of Hillary and Kaine in Ohio today. She began by speaking to students and supporters at Sinclair Community College in Dayton. During her speech, Chelsea spoke about the creating more opportunities for young people, including reducing the cost of higher education. Chelsea then traveled to Westerville where she spoke about Hillary’s plans to build upon the progress that been made in the country. “Unlike her opponent, she actually has plans for higher education and affordability, so people are not limited by their zip code, or their income, and their ability to pursue their dreams,” she said. A video from the event in Dayton is below.

Three fundraisers were held today on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was a lunch event in Crystal Lake, Illinois with Lisa Madigan. The second took place in Seattle, Washington and featured a conversation with HFA Campaign Manager Robby Mook. The final event was in New York City and included a conversation with Rodney Slater, Former United States Secretary of Transportation. The event was hosted by Deserrie Forte and Shawn Norville.

President Obama Campaigns for Hillary in Philadelphia

On Tuesday, President Barack Obama returned to the campaign trail on behalf of Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine. During his speech in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the president spent as much time criticizing Republican Donald Trump as he did expressing his confidence in Clinton. Obama attacked Trump’s divisive claims and attacked his new-found dedication to working people. “This guy who spent 70 years on this earth showing no concern for working people — this guy’s suddenly going to be your champion?” he asked the crowd. He then spoke about his trust in Clinton’s judgement and confidence that she has a better vision for the future saying, “This is not the usual choice between parties and policies and left and right. This is more fundamental. This is a fundamental choice about who we are as a people. This is a choice about the very meaning of America.” A video of the president’s speech is below.

Clinton Proposes Universal Health Care

933DEM 2016 Clinton

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton and her campaign released an expansion to her health care plan that provides additional details on how, as president, she would achieve universal health care. Parts of the plan are suggestions from the campaign of former Democratic rival Senator Bernie Sanders. The expanded plan has three primary points:

  1. Work with state governors to expand Medicaid in every state.
  2. Reign in the cost of health care by ensuring low premiums, reforming the prescription drug industry to allow for price negotiations, and capping the maximum out of pocket expenses for a family per year.
  3. Expand Medicare to all Americans 55 years old and older.

In the release, Clinton stresses the importance of insuring all Americans and ensuring that everyone has access to affordable health care, dental and vision care, and affordable prescription drugs. The full plan is available on The Briefing.

Clinton Goes After Trump in Foreign Policy Speech

On Thursday, Hillary Clinton delivered a major foreign policy speech in San Diego, California. The speech was her first in a series of five days of campaigning across the state. The central message of Clinton’s speech was that Republican nominee Donald Trump is a danger to America’s domestic and foreign policies. The speech was full of one liners and attacking Trump’s policies and character. “Donald Trump’s ideas are not just different, they are dangerously incoherent. They’re not even really ideas, just a series of bizarre rants, personal feuds and outright lies,” she told the crowd of supporters. She went after Trump’s “thin skin”, his “dangerous” policies, his Twitter rants, and his history with foreign leaders saying, “He praises dictators like Vladimir Putin and picks fights with our friends, including the British prime minister, the mayor of London, the German chancellor, the president of Mexico and the pope.”

Clinton then spoke about her experience as First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State. She covered a few of her platform points, but her primary argument is that the 2016 election is about a choice of “two very different visions” of America’s future. “One that’s angry, afraid and based on the idea that America is fundamentally weak and in decline. The other is hopeful, generous, and confident in the knowledge that America is great, just like we always have been,” she said. A video of Clinton’s speech is below.

Hillary Clinton Endorsed by California Governor

1363871_1280x720

On Tuesday, California Governor Jerry Brown endorsed Hillary Clinton in his state’s upcoming primary and for President of the United States. Writing in an open letter, Brown urged Democrats and Independents to work together to stop presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump from reaching the White House. Brown praised Bernie Sanders for his impressive campaign, but said that Clinton possesses the votes, skills, and vision for the United States. Brown went on to criticize a number of Trump’s proposals and praising Clinton’s experience. A copy of Brown’s letter is below.

On Tuesday, June 7, I have decided to cast my vote for Hillary Clinton because I believe this is the only path forward to win the presidency and stop the dangerous candidacy of Donald Trump.

I have closely watched the primaries and am deeply impressed with how well Bernie Sanders has done. He has driven home the message that the top one percent has unfairly captured way too much of America’s wealth, leaving the majority of people far behind. In 1992, I attempted a similar campaign.

For her part, Hillary Clinton has convincingly made the case that she knows how to get things done and has the tenacity and skill to advance the Democratic agenda. Voters have responded by giving her approximately 3 million more votes – and hundreds more delegates – than Sanders. If Clinton were to win only 10 percent of the remaining delegates – wildly improbable – she would still exceed the number needed for the nomination. In other words, Clinton’s lead is insurmountable and Democrats have shown – by millions of votes – that they want her as their nominee.

But there is more at stake than mere numbers. The Republican nominee, Donald Trump, has called climate change a “hoax” and said he will tear up the Paris Climate Agreement. He has promised to deport millions of immigrants and ominously suggested that other countries may need the nuclear bomb. He has also pledged to pack the Supreme Court with only those who please the extreme right.

The stakes couldn’t be higher. Our country faces an existential threat from climate change and the spread of nuclear weapons. A new cold war is on the horizon. This is no time for Democrats to keep fighting each other. The general election has already begun. Hillary Clinton, with her long experience, especially as Secretary of State, has a firm grasp of the issues and will be prepared to lead our country on day one.

Next January, I want to be sure that it is Hillary Clinton who takes the oath of office, not Donald Trump.

With respect,

Jerry Brown

Chelsea Campaigns for Hillary in SC, Bill in NV

bilde

On Saturday, while Hillary Clinton was in New Hampshire, Chelsea and Bill Clinton were on the campaign trail. Chelsea was in South Carolina where she attended events in Rock Hill, Spartanburg, and Clemson. At each of the events, Chelsea spoke about the importance of the 2016 election and the far reaching effects it is going to have, especially for the Supreme Court. She also spoke about women’s rights and her mother’s fight to protect them. At each of the events, Chelsea took questions from the audience on a variety of topics. A portion of her event in Spartanburg is below. Other videos will be added when/if available.

Bill attended an organizing event in Pahrump, Nevada where he acknowledged the tough campaign for Hillary, but said that he was confident that she has the best vision going forward. He also sympathized with those who are angry with the current political environment. He said, “I understand why we’ve got a race on our hands, because a lot of people are disillusioned with the system and a lot of young people want to take it down. … I understand what it’s like for people who haven’t had a raise in eight years. There are a lot of reasons [to be angry]. But this is not a cartoon. This is real life.” A video from the event will be posted when/if available.

Today and Monday, Bill and Chelsea will be in New Hampshire to support Hillary before Tuesday’s primary. For all the latest, follow our revamped Scheduled Events page and follow Clinton on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
