Civil Rights Leader Rev. Dr. Otis Moss Jr. Endorses Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of Civil Rights leaders Reverend Dr. Otis Moss Jr. Rev. Dr. Moss Jr. served as the Pastor of Olivet Institutional Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio before retiring after 33 years of service.  He was also the co-pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Atlanta, Georgia. A copy of his endorsement is below.

Why Secretary Hillary Clinton Should Be Our Next President

Mrs. Hillary Clinton is our best hope for moving the U.S. Supreme Court out of the hands of right wing, anti-civil rights, anti-voting rights, anti-human rights judges. The next president will shape the U.S. Supreme Court for perhaps the next 50 years! By that time, the millennials will be nearing (80) years old. Their children and grandchildren will be the living with the results of the 2016 election. The next president will nominate three or four U.S. Supreme Court justices plus score of federal district and appeals court judges.

We need Hillary Clinton to be our next president because she is qualified. She is prepared. She is dedicated. She is an activist in the struggles of the common life for the common good and has the record to prove it. She did not wait 70 years to “think” about civil rights and human rights. She is committed activist nationally and globally. She is the epitome of excellence.

Let me repeat, Hillary Clinton will save the U.S. Supreme Court from political arsonists, obstructionists and destroyers of the civil rights, human rights and voting rights. All the right wing extremists know this. This is why they are endorsing and supporting Trump – including some who tend to despise him. Mrs. Clinton will fight for voting rights protection, health care for all and education for all without crippling debts.

Hillary Clinton will give extraordinary national and global leadership. Leadership anchored in reason, wisdom, sound judgement, spiritual strength and moral courage.

She has been and remains active in her faith commitment from her youth. She has embraced The Holy Scriptures from her youth and knows the names of the books of her Bible and the unsearchable riches contained therein. She knows the songs and hymns and music of her faith and does not scorn and demean other faith traditions. She believes in the total Constitution – not just one or two amendments such as states’ rights and gun rights.

She does not bully her way through life. She has the courage of kindness, the endurance of long-suffering and the joys of Amazing Grace.

She loves children of all races, colors and ethnicities, rich and poor, rural, urban and suburban, healthy and ill, victorious and vulnerable, immigrant and Native American and those whose ancestors came in chains. This includes the well housed and the homeless. She does not seek votes from one group by hating and insulting other groups.

Mrs. Clinton deserves and needs our support and votes. If her opponent should win, we all lose; children, youth and adults. We can all win with Hillary Clinton.

Hillary Clinton Statement on Amalgamated Transit Union Endorsement

Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of the Amalgamated Transit Union on Wednesday. In a release, ATU International President Larry Hanley said that Clinton is the clear choice in the election because of her dedication to working Americans. He said, “Secretary Clinton’s rallying cry – Stronger Together – is an expression of the fundamental principle that has guided the labor movement’s historic work delivering momentous improvements in Americans’ lives. Similarly, there is so much President Hillary Clinton and all of us will be able to accomplish together.” Clinton responded to the group’s endorsement with the following statement:

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Amalgamated Transit Union.

For more than a hundred years, ATU members have kept our cities running, powering our urban economies and helping countless people get to and from work every day. Along the way, they helped build the American middle class by fighting for fair wages, good benefits, and safe working conditions.

As President, I will proudly stand with ATU as we work to build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top, and make the minimum wage a living wage. We’ll invest in building 21st century infrastructure, including transit infrastructure, and make sure that our transit systems are designed to actually connect working people to jobs and economic opportunity. And we will protect the rights and dignity of all Americans–because we know that we are stronger together.

The stakes in this election could not be higher for working people. Donald Trump stood on a debate stage and said that wages are “too high” in this country. He opposes policies that would make it easier for people to balance work and family, including paid family leave and ensuring pay for women. He personally hired a union-busting firm to keep workers at his hotel in Las Vegas from organizing. Donald Trump is wrong for workers and he’s wrong for America.”

Hillary Clinton Campaigns for an Extra Day in California

On Friday, Hillary Clinton spent an extra day in California. The event she attended was a discussion with community leaders in Oakland. Meeting at a local restaurant called Home of Chicken and Waffles, Clinton and a group of local officials and business owners discussed what the federal government can do to help local governments. Describing the purpose of the meeting she said, “I want to know how the federal government and me, particularly, can be a better partner. I want to be a champion for Oakland and all the other Oaklands in the country.” The group discussed a number of topics from wages, jobs, urban policy, and urban renewal. She admitted that there aren’t easy answers for every problem at the local level, but decisions made at the local level are very important. The panel consisted of Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan, Oakland Unified School District Superintendent Antwan Wilson, Regina Jackson, CEO of the East Oakland Youth Development Center, and Derreck Johnson, owner of the Home of Chicken and Waffles.

Hillary Clinton Attends Sunday Morning Church Services in Detroit

On Sunday morning, Hillary Clinton attended church services at three local Detroit churches: Triumph Church, Holy Ghost Cathedral Church, and Russell Street Missionary Baptist Church. She spoke to the congregation at each of the churches and during each speech, she spoke about the condition of Detroit Public Schools, urban issues that affect Detroit, and the water crisis in nearby Flint. Speaking about the local schools, she said, “It is just unacceptable in our country that precious little children are going to school in classrooms filled with mold and rodents. I don’t know how any public official can look in the mirror and know that little kids in Detroit are being denied physical and educational quality.” A video from her speech at Russell Street Missionary Baptist Church is below.

Hillary Rodham Clinton took part in a roundtable discussion hosted by the Center for American Progress (CAP) and the America Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The event focused on issues in urban areas, and she discussed the benefits of creating partnerships between the public and private sectors to provide solutions for urban issues. Clinton focused largely on income inequality and wage stagnation and how the two are related. Clinton said, “We need to think hard about what we’re going to do now that people are moving back into and staying in cities to make sure that our cities are not just places of economic prosperity and job creation on average. But do it in a way that lifts everybody up to deal with the overriding issues of inequality and lack of mobility.”

The roundtable also included CAP President Neera Tanden, Housing Secretary Julian Castro, and AFSCME President Lee Saunders.
