Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 5.49.35 PM

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton sat down with Rachel Maddow at the Apollo Theater for an interview which aired last night on MSNBC. During the interview, Clinton and Maddow spoke about a number of topics including Republican front-runner Donald Trump and his recent comments about abortion, her primary battle against Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, and a number of her platform points and positions. One of the interesting distinctions that is becoming clear between Clinton and Sanders is that while Clinton is focused on the Democratic party and ensuring that other Democrats are elected, Sanders is only concerned about the primary and winning the nomination. Clinton understand the broader importance of the election and is fighting for Democratic successes in Congress as well. Clinton assured Israelis that with her at the helm, Israel would would have the full support of the United States, and she would continue to supply Israel militarily, combat anti-Semitism, ensure Iran holds to its end of the recent nuclear agreement, and continue to combat Iranian proxies such as Hezbollah.

Her address has been criticized by some as pandering, but Clinton made it clear that she would continue President Barack Obama’s stance toward Israel while defending the nuclear agreement with Iran. Republican presidential candidates Trump, Ted Cruz, and John Kasich were all scheduled to address AIPAC today as well. Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders did not attend the event, but focused on Tuesday’s primaries instead. A full video of Clinton’s speech is below and a transcript is available HERE.

During her speech at Carl Hayden Community High School, Clinton talked about a number of her platform points including heath care, added assistance for small businesses, and immigration reform. She also spent part of speech talking about the current political environment. She vowed to work with Republicans and Democrats alike if elected president saying, “I don’t remember anything like this. I will do anything we can to find a common ground. Anger is not a strategy.” A video from the event will be added when/if available.

At an event held on the campus University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Hillary Clinton outlined her plan to prevent jihadist recruitment and radicalization. Her plan consists of five parts:

  1. Stop ISIS recruitment in the United States, especially online
  2. Prevent would-be jihadists from getting training overseas, and prevent foreign terrorists from coming to the United States
  3. Discover and disrupt terror plots before they can be carried out
  4. Support law enforcement officers
  5. Empower Muslim-American communities to fight radicalization

Clinton also called for a measure that would prevent people on the no-fly list from buying a gun. She said, “They’ll [Republicans] say that guns are a totally separate issue – nothing to do with terrorism. I have news for them. Terrorists use guns to kill Americans, and I think we should make it a lot harder for them to ever do that again.” Today’s proposals are in addition to her plans to defeat ISIS, which she laid out last month. A full video from Clinton’s speech is below and a transcript is available on The Briefing.

Tomorrow, Clinton will be joined by Warren Buffett in Omaha, Nebraska to discuss tax reform. For all the latest, follow our Scheduled Events page and follow Clinton on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
