Hillary Clinton Interviewed on CNN, PBS

On Friday, Hillary Clinton appeared on CNN where she was interviewed by Wolf Blitzer. During the interview, Blitzer asked Clinton about the conclusion of the FBI’s investigation into her email practices as Secretary of State. She said, “It was a mistake for me to use personal email. And I regret that. I am certainly relieved and glad that the investigation has concluded but I also know how important it is to make sure everybody understands that I would certainly not do that again.” The State Department has opened an inquiry into Clinton’s email use as well as email use in the department.

Clinton and Blitzer also discussed recent racial tensions including the police killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile and the murder of five police officers in Dallas. Clinton responded saying that we need to more as a country to respect each other and the police. She spoke about her proposed plans for criminal justice reform saying that there needs to be a clearer guideline for police to use force, and more needs to be done to protect our law enforcement officers. Update: Clinton also spoke with Judy Woodruff for PBS NewHour. During the interview, Clinton called for a national standard for police forces to follow in light of the events in Baton Rouge, Minnesota, and Dallas. Woodruff also asked Clinton about the FBI’s investigation into her email server. Clinton challenged the call by many Republicans to revoke her access to classified material. She argued that she has been mindful of sensitive information saying, “Well, I think there is a lot of evidence to that, based on eight years as a senator handling a lot of classified material, based as four years as a secretary of state, handling classified material, which, in my view, didn’t include what was sent on an unclassified system, and certainly was the judgment of the hundreds of people with experience and expertise who dealt with me.” A video of the interview is below and a transcript is available HERE.

Hillary Clinton Discusses Economic Plan in North Carolina

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton followed up her economic speech on Tuesday with an event in Raleigh, North Carolina. In a second powerful speech on the economy, Clinton said that the country is stronger when the economy works for everyone, and she acknowledged that parts of the system are broken. She outlined five key areas of the economy that she wants to focus on to ensure that the economy works for everyone. The five goals she has set for her presidency are (full details are available on The Briefing):

1. Break Through Washington Gridlock to Make the Boldest Investment in Good-Paying Jobs Since World War II
2. Make Debt Free College Available to All Americans
3. Rewrite the Rules to Ensure That Workers Share in the Profits They Help Create
4. Ensure That Those at the Top Pay Their Fair Share
5. Put Families First by Matching Our Policies to How Families Live, Learn, and Work in the 21st Century Economy

Clinton contrasted her plans with those of Republican Donald Trump. She said, “Compare what I am proposing to what we hear from Donald Trump, the self-proclaimed king of debt. No credible plans for rebuilding our infrastructure, apart from his wall. No real plan for creating jobs.” She did not offer as many attacks on Trump and his businesses as she did in yesterday’s speech, but she made it clear that she is focused on making the economy work for everyone while arguing that Trump will destroy it. Hillary Clinton Addresses Terrorism in Cleveland

Following yesterday’s terror inspired shooting at an Orlando, Florida night club, Hillary Clinton delivered a counter-terrorism speech today in Cleveland, Ohio. Clinton was previously scheduled to appear in Cleveland today, but she changed the subject of her speech following yesterday’s devastating shooting. During her speech, Clinton called for a bipartisan response to not only fight ISIS, but to restore an assault rifle ban that was in effect during the 1990s. She said, “It’s essential that we stop terrorists from getting the tools they need to carry out the attacks, and that is especially true when it comes to assault weapons like those used in Orlando and San Bernardino.”

Clinton reached out to the LGBT community saying, “I want to say this to all the LGBT people grieving today in Florida and across our country, you have millions of allies who will always have your back. I am one of them.” She also reached out to the country’s Muslim allies saying that blaming all of Islam is not the answer. While she did not say his name, she referred to Republican Donald Trump’s proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the country. Clinton said, “Inflammatory, anti-Muslim rhetoric—and threatening to ban the families and friends of Muslim Americas as well as millions of Muslim business people and tourists from entering our country—hurts the vast majority of Muslims who love freedom and hate terror.” A full video from Clinton’s speech is below and a transcript can be read HERE.

Earlier in the day, Clinton called in to NBC’s The Today Show and spoke with Savannah Guthrie. Clinton discussed the importance of not blaming Muslims for the shooting, but the person who carried it out and the system that enabled him to purchase an assault rifle. She also criticized Trump for his rhetoric and said that it is ignoring the key issue of going after ISIS and preventing them from using social media to recruit. Meanwhile in New York City, a fundraiser was held in partnership with Hillary for America. The event featured a conversation with Cheif Finanical Officer Gary Gensler and was hosted by Mike Bodson, Donna Milrod, Larry Thompson, and Mark Wetjen. Clinton was scheduled to attend a fundraiser in Cincinnati, but the event was postponed.

Hillary Clinton Interviewed on “This Week”

This morning, Hillary Clinton was interviewed on ABC’s This Week by host George Stephanopoulos. During the interview, Clinton and Stephanolpoulos discussed her stepped up attacks on Republican nominee Donald Trump and her plans to go after him in the general election. When asked if she thought being more like him was the best way to beat him, she responded quickly by saying, “No, not at all. I laid out in my speech in San Diego the crux of my concerns and my case against him on foreign policy and national security. And a lot of what he says plays into what I consider to be a very divisive and dangerous view of the world. And I think it’s important that we call it for what it is.”

Clinton was also asked about the final round of primaries coming up this week and her continued fight with Bernie Sanders for the nomination of the Democratic Party. She expressed confidence that she will be Democratic nominee after Tuesday’s primaries. Other topics discussed included her use of a private email server as Secretary of State and whether she was concerned about the current investigation by the FBI, and she also discussed several of her platform points. Hillary Clinton Appears on ABC’s This Week, WABC’s Up Close

On Sunday morning, Hillary Clinton appeared on ABC’s This Week. During the interview with host George Stephanopoulos, Clinton was asked about her thoughts on Republican Donand Trump and his new nickname for her, her continued battle against Bernie Sanders for the Democratic nomination, and the continued call for her to release the transcripts from her Wall Street speeches. On that point she said, “You know, we have certain expectations when you run for president, one of which is release all of your tax returns ever since you’ve been in public life. Now all of a sudden, there’s a new standard. And I’ve said when it applies to everybody, you bet. This morning, an interview with Clinton was also aired on a local New York show called “Up Close.” The interview, which aired on WABC, focused on Tuesday’s primary and Clinton called out Sanders for his negative turn in the campaign, something he said he would not do. She also spoke about his interview in the New York Daily News, an interview that has been regarded as one of his weakest. Sanders was unable to answer questions about what he would do to reform Wall Street and other policy points. Clinton took the opportunity to pounce saying, “He couldn’t answer basic questions. He just keeps diagnosing the problem.” Clinton told reporter Dave Evans that as president she will fight for America just as she fought for New York as Senator. Hillary Clinton Unveils Environmental, Immigration Plan Details

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton delivered two major speeches during which she outlined her plans for environmental action and her proposal to create a Department of Immigrant Affairs to help immigrants become American citizens. This morning, Clinton was endorsed by the New York State Immigrant Action Fund, and Clinton attended a round table event during which she discussed her plans for immigration reform. She criticized Republican Donald Trump for his anti-immigration rhetoric and vowed to help immigrants become American citizens. During her remarks, she proposed the introduction of a Department of Immigrant Affairs that would work at all levels of government to assist immigrants and refugees as they settle in the United States.

In the afternoon, Clinton spoke at the National Action Network Convention where she was introduced by Rev. Al Sharpton. Clinton introduced her plan for environmental and climate justice which is a small part of her larger Breaking Every Barrier agenda. The plan not only includes fighting climate change, but eliminating lead as a public health threat. The main points of the plan include:

• Eliminating lead as a major public heath threat within five years
• Protesting public heath and safety by modernizing drinking and wastewater systems
• Prosecuting criminal and civil violations that expose communities to environmental harm and work with Congress to strengthen public health protections in our existing laws
• Creating new economic opportunity through brownfield clean-up and redevelopment
• Reducing urban air pollution by investing in clean power and transportation
• Broadening the clean energy economy, build career opportunities, and combat energy poverty by expanding solar and energy efficiency in low-income communities and communities of color
• Protecting communities from the impacts of climate change by investing in resilient infrastructure
• Establishing an Environmental and Climate Justice Task Force to make environmental and climate justice, including cumulative impacts, an integral part of federal decision-making

Clinton then spoke at an organizing event in the Bronx. During the event, she spoke about a variety of topics including working for New York as senator, improving education, building upon the progress made in heath care, and ensuring that all Americans have an opportunity to prosper. She took the time to point out the differences between her and her Republican rivals, especially front-runner Donald Trump. She said, “He wants to build walls; I want to build bridges.” Clinton went on to ask for everyone’s support during next week’s primary. A video from the event is below.

On Monday, Hillary Clinton sat down with the editorial board of the New York publication Newsday. Hillary Takes Part in Equal Pay Roundtable, Celebrates First Year of Campaign

Tuesday was Equal Pay Day and Hillary Clinton attended a round table event at Glassdoor where she outlined her plan to raise the wages of women across the country. She called for the passage of the Paycheck Fairness Act which would make it illegal for an employer to fire someone for finding out how much a co-worker makes. Clinton also said she would require every company to review its compensation and evaluate whether women are paid equally. She also vowed to work with states to ensure current equal pay statutes across the country are still being followed. Clinton called for more transparency saying, “There’s not enough transparency, and we don’t know exactly what the pay gaps are in many settings, predominantly in the private sector. We need to use the federal government, the Department of Labor and others, to really encourage more transparency, to get more public information.”

The conversation included: World Cup Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Megan Rapinoe; Glassdoor CEO Robert Hohman; Make It Work Co-founder & Co-executive Director Tracey Sturdivant; Clayman Institute for Gender Research Executive Director Lori Nishiura MacKenzie; Gap Foundation President and Gap Sustainability Vice President Dan Henkle and award-winning journalist Diane Brady. Clinton then traveled to Florida where she attended three fundraisers. The first event was in Manalapan where she attended an event at the home of Marsha and Henry Laufer. Clinton’s second event was in Miami Beach and included a conversation with Congressman Joaquín Castro, Kristin Davis, and Raúl De Molina. Singer Carole King also performed at the event. The final event of the day was held at the Miami Beach home of Tiffany and Alex Heckler. Congressman Castro also attended the event with Hillary.

Today also marks one year since Clinton announced her plans to run for president. Since April 2015, Clinton has received millions in donations, leads in the race for the Democratic nomination, and has rolled out an comprehensive platform.
