Tim Kaine Makes Case for Clinton in Wisconsin

Tim Kaine campaigned in Wisconsin on Tuesday where he focused on the sharp contrast between presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. At his first event in Appleton, Kaine spoke about the optimistic and inclusive platform assembled by Clinton, then compared it to the divisive plans proposed by Trump. Kaine also spoke about the two candidates’ different background. He spoke about Clinton’s passion for children and families and how she has fought for both during her long career. Meanwhile, Trump has been more focused on himself. Kaine concluded the event by speaking about the importance of Wisconsin to Clinton and himself and he urged everyone to take advantage of early voting or to head to the ballot box on November 8th. Kaine then speak at a rally in Madison. He spoke about the importance of Wisconsin in the election saying that they are one of the key battleground states. Kaine spoke about Clinton’s platform and her support of a progressive agenda. He said, “You have a proud progressive tradition that goes back a long, long time.” He continued, “I’m excited to have somebody in the Oval Office bringing 40 years of passionate battling for families and kids. Donald Trump does have a passion, it’s just Donald J. Trump.” Kaine urged everyone to vote on November 8th because every vote is important in a close election. Meanwhile, Kaine’s wife, Anne Holton, spoke at three early voting events in Iowa. She spoke at events in Carroll, Des Moines, and Boone. At each, she stressed the importance of the election and urged everyone to get out and vote. More details from the events will be posted when/if available.

On Tuesday, three fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America. The first two were in New York and featured Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. She spoke at events in Syracuse and Rochester. Then, in Washington, DC, Heather Boushey held an event.

Tim Kaine on Trump’s Most Recent Comment About Accepting Election Outcome

During a press availability in Charlotte, North Carolina, vice presidential nominee Senator Tim Kaine made the following statement criticizing Trump for undermining a central pillar of American democracy:

“While I was speaking, Donald Trump gave a speech in Delaware, Ohio, and I might just read you the script: ‘I would like to promise a pledge to all of my voters and supporters, all of the people of the United States, that I will totally accept the results of this great and historic presidential election if I win.’ If I win. That is a direct quote from Donald Trump. Well obviously, Donald, that is not accepting the results. You’ve got to accept the results of this election, win or lose. That’s the pledge we made. Hillary stood on the stage in the first debate and said, ‘Of course I’m going to accept the results of the election.’ And that Donald Trump was unwilling to make that pledge, and still thinks he’s saying something positive by saying, ‘I’ll accept the results if I win’ shows he has a profound misunderstanding of the institutions of government and that he is trying to do something and upset a tradition that has been one of the most notable features of American democracy.”

Hillary Clinton Endorsed by Foreign Policy

Hillary Clinton has been endorsed by Foreign Policy magazine. The endorsement is the first of its kind from the publication as it has never endorsed a political candidate for any office. Explaining their reasoning for breaking their tradition of staying out of politics, the editorial board said, “We cherish and fiercely protect this publication’s independence and its reputation for objectivity, and we deeply value our relationship with all of our readers, regardless of political orientation. It is for all these reasons that FP’s editors are now breaking with tradition to endorse Hillary Clinton for the next president of the United States.” They continued to explain that Clinton’s broad background in government makes her uniquely qualified for the White House while Republican Donald Trump provides new reasons each day why he is not. Hillary Clinton spent Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn, New York where she met with voters and spoke at an organizing event. During the event, she was introduced by Representative Nydia Velazquez, then Clinton focused on immigration and issues within the Latino community. She stressed that the United States is a country of immigrants and that immigration reform is necessary to continue that tradition. Clinton also spoke about Puerto Rico and her proposal to give the territory voting rights and federal support for its economy. She asked for everyone’s support in New York’s April 19 primary. Clinton also made a surprise stop at an Inner Circle charity event in New York City. Clinton appeared along side New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, and she referenced an issue she experienced earlier in the week when she tried to swipe a MetroCard to ride the subway in the Bronx. She said, “Will you just fix these MetroCard slots? It took me like five swipes.” She also thanked the mayor for his endorsement before adding, “it took you long enough.” All Clinton’s comments were made in the spirit of the comedy event presented that evening.
