The New York Times Endorses Hillary

On Saturday, The New York Time Editorial Board endorsed Hillary Clinton has the Democratic Party nominee. The paper said, “Voters have the chance to choose one of the most broadly and deeply qualified presidential candidates in modern history.” With the Iowa caucus tomorrow, we will see if voters pay attention to the big endorsements she has received from newspapers including The Des Moines Register, The Sioux City Journal, The Boston Globe, and now The New York Times.

Hillary for America Writes Open Letter to The New York Times

After releasing a false story about a criminal investigation into the use of a personal email server by former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Clinton campaign has released an open letter criticizing the inaccurate reporting by The New York Times. The letter, penned by communications director Jennifer Palmieri, was directed to Dean Baquet, the executive editor. The story originally said that the Department of Justice had been urged to open a criminal investigation. The story was later corrected to indicate the investigation was not criminal in nature but was a “security referral.”

In the letter, Palmieri wrote about the lack of response time given to the campaign by the news organization and she questioned the sources used for the article. She concluded by saying, “In closing, I wish to emphasize our genuine wish to have a constructive relationship with The New York Times. But we also are extremely troubled by the events that went into this erroneous report, and will be looking forward to discussing our concerns related to this incident so we can have confidence that it is not repeated in the future.”

CGI Annual Meeting: Equality for Girls & Women: 2034 instead of 2134?

In the final day of the Clinton Global Initiative’s Annual Meeting, Hillary Rodham Clinton took part in two events. The first was a discussion entitled “Equality for Girls & Women: 2034 instead of 2134?,” which focused on the inequality of employment and education opportunities for women around the world. With the first panel moderated by The New York Times Editor, David Leonhardt, Clinton was joined on stage by Melinda Gates and the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe. A second panel was then introduced to continue the discussion. The second panel was moderated by Katie Couric and included Western Union CEO Hikmet Ersek, President of Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa Leymah Gbowee, and CEO of American University of Afghanistan Nilofar Sakhi. There was also a short speech by Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein.

In the time between the two panels’ discussions, Hillary was joined on stage by Chelsea Clinton to announce a new CGI initiative called CHARGE. CGI and its partners have pledged $600 million to assist 14 million girls between the ages of 11 and 16 with attending school.
