On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton gave a campaign speech on the campus of University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa. During her speech, Clinton covered a number of topics from her platform, but she took the opportunity to criticize her primary opponent, Bernie Sanders. She criticize him for his plans to raise taxes across the board, his record on gun control, and his plans for health care. On the upcoming primary, Clinton said, “You are owed a spirited debate over what our differences are, because we have substantive differences and it’s important that you know before you caucus on Feb. 1 what those might be.” A video of her full speech is below.
This evening, Clinton was scheduled to attend a fundraiser in Detroit, Michigan. Singer Michael Bolton is scheduled to perform at the event.

On Monday, Hillary Clinton hosted a organizing event in Waterloo, Iowa where she received the endorsement of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. He introduced Clinton, praising her infrastructure proposal to fix roads, bridges, public transportation systems, water systems, and increase broadband Internet. Of Clinton’s diverse background and experience, he said, “It’s not just something she read in a book. It’s something she has done.”
Clinton then spoke, unveiling a proposed 4% tax on individuals making more than $5 million per year. The plan would raise approximately $150 billion over ten years, and would only affect .02% of taxpayers. The plan, dubbed the “Fair Share Surcharge” is in addition to following the Buffett Rule for taxing those who make over $250,000 a year. Clinton pledged again that she would not raise taxes on those making less than $250,000, something that her Democratic primary rival Bernie Sanders can not pledge to. On Saturday night, Hillary Clinton, Senator Bernie Sanders, and Martin O’Malley appeared on stage at St. Anselm College in New Hampshire for the third Democratic primary debate. The primary topic of the evening was foreign policy, a strength for former Secretary of State Clinton. Before getting into the debate, Sanders took a moment to apologize to Clinton for his staffers accessing the Clinton campaign’s proprietary voter data. It was revealed this week that Sanders’ staffers found and downloaded campaign data that should have been protected. The DNC has acted swiftly barring the Sanders campaign from accessing voter databases. Clinton’s campaign has been careful to respond, though her staffers and supporters have gone after the Sanders campaign. Clinton thanked Sanders for his apology and said, “Now that, I think, you know, we’ve resolved your data, we’ve agreed on an independent inquiry, we should move on, because I don’t think the American people are all that interested in this.”
The moderators, ABC’s David Muir and Martha Raddatz, then asked the candidates about a variety of topics, including a few domestic questions about taxes, health care, and gun control. But the focus of the ABC debate was foreign policy. Clinton and Sanders debated the removal of Muammar Gaddafi in Libya in 2011and the power vacuum that followed. Sanders argued that the chaos was predictable, but Clinton reminded Sanders that he voted for the Senate resolution calling for Gaddafi’s removal and the intervention of the United Nations. On the foreign policy front, the candidates also discussed ISIS, terrorism, and a number of other topics. As with previous debates, the three candidates were careful about going after each other. Clinton only attacked when provoked, and she focused her criticism on Republicans, particularly Donald Trump. It was clear that Clinton is planning for the general election. Clinton’s platform displays her breadth of knowledge on both domestic and foreign policy issues. While the Republicans continue to bicker among the crowd, Clinton continues to lay out her plans to help everyday Americans, keep our country safe, and maintain our status as a leader in the world.
On Monday, Hillary Rodham Clinton unveiled what she is calling the “New College Compact” in which she pledges to make college more affordable for students. She proposes to accomplish this by making more grants and low interest loans available while lowering the cost of education. The plan is estimated to cost $350 billion over 10 years. Speaking at Exeter High School, she said, “College is supposed to help people achieve their dreams, but more and more paying for college actually pushes those dreams further and further out of reach. That is a betrayal of everything college is supposed to represents.”
The plan includes a number of proposals to keep tuition low and the schools invested in their students. One of the proposals is called “skin-in-the-game” where a college is fined for any student who cannot pay off their student loans. She would continue President Barack Obama’s plan to provide free community college, crack down on for-profit institutions, and simplify income-based repayment plans for student loan borrowers. Then, she held a press conference answering questions from reporters.

On Tuesday, Clinton remained in New Hampshire and took her college affordability plan to River Valley Community College in Claremont. Clinton discussed the plan she unveiled on Monday, but went further attacking Republican presidential candidate Scott Walker for cutting higher education funding as governor of Wisconsin. She said, “You take somebody like Governor Walker of Wisconsin who seems to be delighted in slashing the investment in higher education in his state. Eliminating the opportunities for young people who are doctors or dentists to actually work in underserved areas in return for having their debts relieved; ending scholarships for poor kids; and most surprisingly to me, rejecting legislation that would have made it tax deductible for you, on your income tax, to deduct the amount of your loan payment.” A video from Clinton’s speech on Tuesday is below:

Today, Bill and Hillary Clinton released their tax returns from 2007-2014. Over the last 8 years, the Clintons paid $43.8 million in taxes with a tax rate of 35.7% in 2014. The Clintons also reported donating roughly 10% of their income to charity. Due to the requirements of candidates, the Clintons have released several times over the years. To date, the Clintons have released 38 years of tax returns.
Hillary Rodham Clinton continued to outline her economic policy today during a speech at the Stern Business School on the campus of NYU. The primary point of her speech was to unveil her focus on curbing short-term investments by increasing taxes on short-term capital gains. Clinton criticized businesses for focusing on short-term profits and ignoring long-term growth. Today’s speech outlined one of many points in Clinton’s economic policies should she win the White House. Throughout the summer, Clinton has outlined her political platform and is expected to continue to do so in the coming weeks and months.
