On Sunday morning, representatives for Hillary for America made the talk show rounds and spoke about the final strategies before Tuesday’s election. Tim Kaine was on CBS’s Face the Nation and John Dickerson and Kaine discussed the affect the FBI investigation has had on the campaign. “We’ve seen it add to the energy on our side. People on our side view this campaign as so important, the ‘Stronger Together’ message as so important and people don’t want it to be distracted. So there has been a great uptick in energy on our side in the early vote,” Kaine said. Watch a video of the full interview below.
John Podesta was interviewed on ABC’s This Week and NBC’s Meet the Press. During each interview, Podesta explained that while he is optimistic, the Clinton campaign is leaving nothing to chance before election. Podesta was also asked about the leaks of information coming out of the FBI and Podesta responded saying, “I think the men and women of the FBI are doing a tremendous job out here across the country. HFA representative Joel Benenson was interviewed on this morning’s episode of Fox News Sunday. Benenson was asked about the FBI investigation into Clinton’s email and the campaign’s strategy for the final days of the campaign. Benenson said that they are “playing offense in every state” and will continue to do so through Monday. Watch a video of the interview below.
The Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold published yet another explosive report revealing Trump’s lack of charitable giving, despite his history of making dramatic public promises of donations, and detailing Trump’s misuse of his foundation. Hillary Clinton highlighted the new report in her remarks today at Wilton Manors, saying it was “truly stunning.”
Washington Post: “For as long as he has been rich and famous, Donald Trump has also wanted people to believe he is generous … It was, in large part, a facade. A months-long investigation by The Washington Post has not been able to verify many of Trump’s boasts about his philanthropy.”
Slate: “The Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold has spent months going through records and talking to people to try to figure out whether Donald Trump is really as charitable as he claims to be. At this point in the campaign, it should surprise no one that the answer is no... Although Trump, particularly through his foundation, did give some money to charity over the years, much of it was self-serving and the dollar amounts of his contributions were often much less than what he made it seem.”
Today in Wilton Manors, Hillary Clinton highlights Trump’s “charitable giving, or lack thereof.”
“But yesterday the Washington Post published a report that was truly stunning. It starts with the story of a ribbon-cutting back in 1996 for a nursery school serving children living with HIV and AIDS in New York. Now, let me say, this is important in part to remember. This is a story about children with HIV and AIDS. So there was a big celebration honoring the donors who had supported the nursery school, and all the kids and their families, for whom this was the most important thing you can imagine. Because you know, back in the ‘90s, some of you remember. Right? Children weren’t welcomed in school.
And then, unannounced and uninvited, guess who barges in? Donald Trump. He walks right up to the stage. He sat down in the seat that was being saved for a local developer who had made a generous donation. None of the people working for the charity knew why he was there. He wasn’t a donor at all. He had never given a single dollar to help build the school. He just wanted people to think he had. So he sat on the stage through the program, even posed for photographs, and when it was over, he got up and walked out. No explanation. No donation. Now really, who does that? What kind of person does that? Really? I mean, who pretends to help kids with HIV and AIDS in order to make themselves look good? Well, I’ll tell you: The same kind of person who would pull a bait and switch on a high school chess team.
Back in 1997, he was principal for a day at a public school. That was a program we used to have in New York. The chess team was holding a bake sale to raise money to travel to a tournament. They were $5,000 short. He walked up to them and handed them a fake million dollar bill. At first the kids and their parents were excited. Then they were devastated to learn it was a joke. So he gave them 200 bucks and drove away in his limousine. Now, this story does have a happy ending because a woman read the story about Donald Trump’s behavior, called the school, and donated the $5,000. And the coach remembers this woman saying, “I am ashamed to be the same species as this man.”
Just this morning, Kellyanne Conway was pressed on Trump’s false philanthropy and was unable to provide any evidence that Fahrenthold’s reporting was anything other than spot-on.
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Tim Kaine mentioned a big story in the Washington Post that found Donald Trump’s personal giving has disappeared entirely in recent years after calling 420 plus charities with connection to trump. The post found one personal gift between 2008 and the spring of 2009. They call into question all of the promises he’s made about giving to charity. Will Trump release his tax returns and show what he’s given?
KELLYANNE CONWAY: Not until our accountants and lawyers say we should.

KELLYANNE CONWAY: Excuse me, yes, George. He’s been incredibly generous with his time and money over the years. He started that foundation with just his money and the only contributor for a number of years.
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: But nothing over the last five years.
On Sunday, representatives for Hillary for America appeared a number of Sunday morning talk show. Tim Kaine was interviewed by George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s This Week, campaign manager Robby Mook was interviewed by Chuck Todd on NBC’s Meet the Press, and campaign chair John Podesta was interviewed by Jake Tapper on CNN’s State of the Union. Each were asked about the FBI’s renewed investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails. Kaine called for FBI Director James Comey to release additional details about the investigation and questioned whether Comey had even seen the emails in question.
Mook said that while it seems the emails were discovered on a computer owned by former Representative Anthony Weiner, he is confident that there is no new information to be found and that Weiner’s wife, Clinton aide Huma Abedin, has cooperated with the FBI’s investigation. On CNN, Podesta called on Comey to explain the move adding, “This is something that has been tossed into the middle of the campaign. We would have preferred that that not happen, but now that it has happened, we would prefer that Mr. Comey come forward and explain why he took that unprecedented step.” Videos of the interviews are below.
This morning, Hillary Clinton was interviewed on ABC’s This Week by host George Stephanopoulos. During the interview, Clinton and Stephanolpoulos discussed her stepped up attacks on Republican nominee Donald Trump and her plans to go after him in the general election. When asked if she thought being more like him was the best way to beat him, she responded quickly by saying, “No, not at all. I laid out in my speech in San Diego the crux of my concerns and my case against him on foreign policy and national security. And a lot of what he says plays into what I consider to be a very divisive and dangerous view of the world. And I think it’s important that we call it for what it is.”
Clinton was also asked about the final round of primaries coming up this week and her continued fight with Bernie Sanders for the nomination of the Democratic Party. She expressed confidence that she will be Democratic nominee after Tuesday’s primaries. Other topics discussed included her use of a private email server as Secretary of State and whether she was concerned about the current investigation by the FBI, and she also discussed several of her platform points. Now all of a sudden, there’s a new standard. And I’ve said when it applies to everybody, you bet. This morning, an interview with Clinton was also aired on a local New York show called “Up Close.” The interview, which aired on WABC, focused on Tuesday’s primary and Clinton called out Sanders for his negative turn in the campaign, something he said he would not do. She also spoke about his interview in the New York Daily News, an interview that has been regarded as one of his weakest. Sanders was unable to answer questions about what he would do to reform Wall Street and other policy points. Clinton took the opportunity to pounce saying, “He couldn’t answer basic questions. He just keeps diagnosing the problem.” Clinton told reporter Dave Evans that as president she will fight for America just as she fought for New York as Senator. This morning, Hillary Clinton appeared on ABC’s This Week. During the interview with host George Stephanopoulos, Clinton discussed her campaign and the upcoming Iowa caucus. She was also asked about recent allegations that 22 of her emails as Secretary of State contained “top secret” information. Clinton dismissed the claim saying, “This is very much like Benghazi. Republicans are going to continue to use it, beat up on me. I understand that. That’s the way they are.” Clinton has repeatedly said that her use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State was a mistake, but she turned everything over to the State Department for them to review and release. This morning, Hillary Clinton appeared on ABC’s This Week. She was interviewed by host George Stephanopoulos, and two began by discussing the implementation of a nuclear agreement with Iran. Clinton supports the agreement, but is cautious and supports full oversight. Clinton was also asked about her campaign recently ramping up its criticism of Bernie Sanders, including his changing position on gun control. This morning, Hillary Clinton appeared on Good Morning America where she was interviewed by George Stephanopoulos. During the interview, Clinton defended comments made by Chelsea Clinton yesterday. Chelsea criticized the heath care plan of Bernie Sanders. Clinton was also asked about the current primary polls in New Hampshire and Iowa and what she would do with her winnings if she won the Powerball lottery drawing tonight.
