On the eve of the South Carolina primary, Bill and Chelsea Clinton were in the state supporting Hillary Clinton. Bill gave speeches at two Get Out the Vote events. At each event, in Aiken and Bluffton, Bill spoke about Hillary’s experience and background. He also focused on her plans for the future including her proposed updates to heath care and equal pay for women. He said, “She’s for equal pay and paid leave because only seven countries of the world, that don’t grant any paid leave. Every man in America should be for equal pay, because when you put more women in the workforce and the economy grows and you have more money.” He urged those in attendance to vote in tomorrow’s primary and support Hillary.
Meanwhile, in Charleston, Chelsea visited with patience and families at the Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Hospital. She then went to Columbia where she met with local volunteers at a phone bank, then held a town hall event and a Get Out the Vote event. Chelsea spoke about her mother’s platform and stressed the importance of the 2016 race, and she asked voters to support Hillary in tomorrow’s primary.
A fundraiser in support of Hillary for America was also held today in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. The fundraiser was hosted by Jim McGovern, John Mahoney, Mike Moore, Candy Mero Carlson, Gerry D’Amico, Kate Donaghue, Jamie Hoag, Steve Kerrigan, Kim Long, and Jason Palitsch. Speaking at the event was former Massachusetts Representative, Barney Frank.

On Thursday, Hillary Clinton campaigned in South Carolina for the second day in a row. She began in Kingstree where the focus of her speech was on race and inequality. She also spoke about the importance of the election and current vacancy on the Supreme Court. Clinton criticized Senate Republicans for refusing to consider any nominee put forward by President Barack Obama. She vowed to continue the progress that President Obama has made over the last eight years saying, “I’m really proud to stand with President Obama, and I’m really proud to stand with the progress he’s made. I need your help, starting with this primary on Saturday.” A video from the event will be added when/if available.
In Florence, Clinton was introduced by Senator Cory Booker, who gave an energetic speech supporting Clinton and her platform. Speaking at the Cumberland United Methodist Church, Clinton outlined her plans to reign in gun violence and improve heath care. She said that the Affordable Care Act was a great achievement that she be built upon, not repealed or replaced. She said that her goal was for every American to be insured saying, “Imagine a tomorrow where 100 percent of us have healthcare, and it’s quality healthcare, affordable healthcare.” A video from the event is below.
In Myrtle Beach, Clinton spoke about her plans for improving higher education with a tiered tuition plan based on income. She also spoke about her plans to improve, not replace, the existing heath care system. Finally, she spoke about the importance of working together and the lack of bi-partisanship in Washington. Clinton said, “There’s a lot of work we have to do here at home There’s a lot of gridlock, a lot of partisanship, but you’ve got to build relationships and find common ground wherever it exists. We can disagree without being disagreeable, that’s how we build bridges.”
The final event of the day was a town hall held at the Royal Baptist Church in North Charleston. Speaking to a group of of predominately African-Americans, Clinton focused on her plans to reign in gun violence and police brutality. The event was set up as a town hall with State Sen. Marlon Kimpson asking questions. Members of the audience also asked a number of questions on a wide variety of topics, but the primary topic was gun violence. In Rock Hill, Bill Clinton spoke to a group of voters about Hillary’s experience and her plans should she win the presidency in November. A number of fundraisers were held on Thursday on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was held in San Antonio, Texas at the home of Paul Boskind and Robby McMillin-Boskind. Attending the event was former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. The second fundraiser was held in London and featured former Senator Evan Bayh. The final fundraiser of the day was held at the Columbia, South Carolina home of Dr. Isabelle Mandell and Mary Minus. The featured speaker at the event was Senator Cory Booker.

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton attended events across South Carolina leading up to Saturday’s primary. Clinton spoke at a Columbia luncheon for the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the nation’s first African-American sorority. She spoke to the group of women about the disparity between white people and people of color, and how it especially affects women. She said, “Something is wrong when black women are more than three times more likely to die in this country in this century from complications due to childbirth. Imagine if a white baby here in South Carolina were twice as likely to die as an African-American baby. Imagine the outcry and the resources that would flood in.” Clinton spoke about the continued fight for equal rights and the systemic racism that continues in parts of the country. Tonight, Clinton attended a town hall on the campus of Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina. During the event, Clinton spoke about race, poverty, and inequality. She also spoke out against the effort in a number of southern state to make it more difficult to vote. The measures being introduced disproportionately affect people of color, and she urged those in attendance to follow the lead of Representative John Lewis and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and fight against it. She also blasted Senate Republicans for vowing to not confirm a Supreme Court nominee put forward by President Barack Obama. She said, “To say don’t even send us a nominee is at variance to the Constitution and deeply disrespectful to the office of the president of the United States.” A video from the event will be added when/if available.

On Tuesday evening, Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders took part in a CNN Town Hall live from Columbia, South Carolina. The event was held before Saturday’s primary. During the event, Clinton spoke about battling societal racism saying that white people should recognize “that our experiences may not equip us to understand what a lot of our African-American fellow citizens go through every single day.” She was also asked about her speeches for Wall Street firms and how she is the best candidate to work with Republicans in Congress get things accomplished. Earlier in the day, Clinton held a “Breaking Down Barriers Forum” at the Central Baptist Church in Columbia. The event included speeches by mothers who have lost their children to gun violence and former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly. The topic of the forum was gun violence and policing policies. She spoke about systemic racism saying, “Something is very wrong when we have these incidents where kids can get arrested for petty crimes and lose their lives. Something is wrong when African Americans are three times more likely to be denied a mortgage as white people are, when the median wealth of black families is just a fraction of the median wealth for white families.” A video from the event is available on C-SPAN.
On Tuesday, Chelsea Clinton was in London where she attended two fundraisers on behalf of Hillary for America. Chelsea attended the events along with Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of American Vogue. The fundraisers were only open to American citizens who live in the area.
Meanwhile, two fundraisers were held in Washington, DC as a part of a policy conversation series hosted by Hillary for America. The first event was hosted by Senior Policy Advisor Ann O’Leary and focused on the current issues with and future of heath care. The second event was a general policy conversation with Jake Sullivan, Senior Policy Advisor and Lona Valmoro, Senior Advisor to the Vice Chair.

Today, Hillary Clinton won the Democratic Nevada caucus over Bernie Sanders. As of this posting, with 87% of precincts reporting, Clinton’s lead over Sanders is 52.5% to 47.4%. Clinton received strong support from women and the African-American community. During her victory speech at the Caesars Palace ballroom in Las Vegas, Clinton dedicated the win to “hotel and casino workers who never wavered” and “the thousands of men and women with kids to raise, bills to pay and dreams that won’t die.” A video from Clinton’s victory party is below.

On Tuesday, Bill and Hillary Clinton attended events across multiple states. Bill was in Greenville, South Carolina where he spoke to a crowd at the West End Community Center. He spoke about immigration reform and gun control, and he spoke highly of Hillary’s experience and conviction. Bill said that her desire to be a change maker is her strongest trait. He asked voters to support her in the upcoming primary saying, “She never gives up and she won’t give up on you, and she knows if we are going to go into the future together we’ve got to have shared prosperity, equal opportunity and inclusiveness. If that is what you want she is your candidate.”
Hillary attended three events in two states. She began in New York City where she attended a fundraiser. She then met with Reverend Al Sharpton in Lower Manhattan. Clinton and Sharpton were joined at their meeting by National Urban League President Mark Moriale. Clinton said, “My campaign is really about breaking every barrier. I’m not a single issue candidate and we don’t live in a single issue country and we have work to do and that work can only be done in partnership.” Clinton then traveled to an evening fundraiser in McLean, Virginia held at the home of Beatrice and Tony Welters.
Hillary also visited Harlem where she gave a speech on her plans to end systemic racism. She pledged $125 billion to assist poor and minority communities with job training and education. She spoke about her “Breaking Down Barriers” that would help “places where people of color and the poor have been left out and left behind.” Clinton criticized rival Bernie Sanders’ relationship with minorities communities saying, “You can’t start building relationships a few weeks before a vote.” A video of her speech will be added when/if available.
In Nevada, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine joined a group of supporters in Mesquite to take part in a canvass event. Meanwhile in Texas, Hillary for America Director of Policy Outreach Ed Meier attended an event at the Dallas home of Anne and Chris Hamilton.

On Saturday, Bill Clinton held two public events in the south after attending a fundraiser in Atlanta, Georgia. The fundraiser was hosted by Mayor Kasim Reed and Sarah-Elizabeth Reed, Congressman John Lewis, Congressman Hank Johnson, The Honorable Andrew Young and Carolyn Young, Hank and Billye Aaron, Mack Wilbourn, and Daniel and Sonya Halpern.
His first organizing event was held in Atlanta where he appeared with Congressman John Lewis. Lewis spoke about Hillary Clinton and praised her experience. He framed her as the candidate best equipped to lead the country. When Bill took the stage, he made similar comments touting Hillary’s experience and her leadership. He stressed the importance of the 2016 election saying, “We are on the verge of being able to grow together again. You need a change maker who believes in inclusive economics, inclusive politics, inclusive society, and a national security policy … that keeps us safe without giving up who we are as Americans. That’s Hillary.”
In the evening, Bill spoke to a group of supporters at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. During the event, he spoke about his wife’s experience and plans to apply more strict gun regulations, create better jobs, and improve the heath care system. He said, “Hillary literally got into this race, because she does not believe America will ever fulfill its promise until every single solitary American is empowered to fulfill their promise. Meanwhile, today in Munich, Germany, a Hillary for America fundraiser was held for American citizens currently living in the area. The event was hosted by Johnny Talbot and Mindy Prugnaud and Former Ambassador Melanne Verveer attended the event.

Following last night’s Democratic debate, Hillary, Bill, and Chelsea Clinton all returned to the campaign trail. Chelsea was in Providence, Rhode Island where she attended a fundraiser. Bill attended two fundraisers today. The first was in Cincinnati, Ohio and was hosted by Allan Berliant and Jennie Rosenthal Berliant, Eisha and Tim Armstrong, Mayor John Cranley, Richard Lawrence, Francie Pepper, Richard Rosenthal and Kitty Strauss. The second fundraiser was held at the home of Elizabeth Welch in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Also hosting a fundraiser today in Newark, New Jersey was Senator Cory Booker.
Meanwhile, Hillary began her day by attending a post-debate breakfast fundraiser in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with Senator Tammy Baldwin. She then traveled to South Carolina where she hosted a town hall event in Denmark. During her remarks, Hillary again painted Bernie Sanders’ platform as too narrow and explained how her experience allowed her to build a broader platform. Clinton also laid out a new proposal called the “Breaking Every Barrier Agenda” which would provide underserved communities with $125 billion for economic development. She explained that the program would largely be paid for by a tax on large financial institutions. She said, “Those that contributed to the Great Recession are going to contribute to bringing back the communities that were the hardest hit by the Great Recession.”
Hillary and Sanders shared the stage (separately) as they both spoke at the Minnesota DFL Humphrey-Mondale Dinner in St. Paul. During Clinton’s speech, she covered a number of her platform points and poked holes in Sanders’ platform, although, she never mentioned him by name. She said, “Once in a while, a day comes along when we make something big and extraordinary happen all at once. But in my experience, that’s not how we make change most of the time. To make change happen over and over again, you’ve got to keep working at it! You’ve got to keep fighting for it day after day after day. Bill attended an organizing event in Pahrump, Nevada where he acknowledged the tough campaign for Hillary, but said that he was confident that she has the best vision going forward. He also sympathized with those who are angry with the current political environment. He said, “I understand why we’ve got a race on our hands, because a lot of people are disillusioned with the system and a lot of young people want to take it down. … I understand what it’s like for people who haven’t had a raise in eight years. There are a lot of reasons [to be angry]. But this is not a cartoon. This is real life.” A video from the event will be posted when/if available.
