Clinton Attends a Private Fundraiser in Park City, Utah

On Monday, Hillary Rodham Clinton attended three private fundraisers in the San Francisco area. The first fundraiser was held at the Saratoga home of Talat and Kamil Hasan. Hasan is a partner at Granite Hill Capital Partners. The second fundraiser was held at the home of Tracey Turner, the founder of MicroPlace. She then attended a fundraiser hosted by Joni Binder and Robert Shwarts. Binder and Shwarts were major Clinton backers in 2008.

Finally, on Tuesday, she completed her trip by attending a breakfast event hosted by Michael and Xochi Birch, founders of Bebo (which they later sold to AOL). Silicon Valley is a major fundraising area for Clinton and all the presidential candidates. As with all private event, the fundraisers were closed to the press.

eBay’s Woman’s Summit

555557_630x354Hillary Rodham Clinton made a surprise appearance at the eBay Women’s Summit held in San Jose. Clinton spoke about a wide variety of topics, but diversity in the business world was her focus. She has been vocal about the lack of women leadership in Silicon Valley, but in more recent speeches, she has applauded the tech companies for being more open to women in their leadership. “If we apply Silicon Valley’s successful approach to the issues of gender and inequality, I’m sure we can make progress,” Clinton Said.

Inaugural Watermark Conference for Women

Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared at the Inaugural Watermark Conference for Women in Silicon Valley. She spoke at length about the lack of women in Silicon Valley and the challenges facing young women and girls interested in entering the fields of science and technology. After her speech, Clinton was interviewed by Re/code CEO Kara Swisher. They continued the conversation about women in the Valley and the technology field. The topic of 2016 did come up briefly, but Clinton dodged the question.

Dreamforce Conference

Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered the keynote address at the Dreamforce Conference in San Francisco. Clinton spoke to the technology community and urged them to continue to innovate. The conference, sponsored by SalesForce, focused on the future of technology. Clinton said, “What we have to be really focused on now is making sure that the benefits of technology to people’s lives outweigh the pitfalls — and it is as evenly distributed as it is possible to do — creating more jobs, connecting up more families and communities, and expanding our horizons.” In addition, Clinton praised SalesForce CEO Marc Benioff for his charity work. She also voiced her support for Net Neutrality as broadband internet companies begin to stream certain businesses content faster in return for payment. Net Neutrality would ensure that the internet provider could not slow down a sites content simply because they did not pay.

Women in the Workforce (Japan)

Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke via video to a women in the workforce conference held in Japan. In her remarks, Clinton spoke about the lack of paid family leave in the United States. She said, “The United States, unfortunately, is one of a handful of developed countries without paid family leave.” In Japan, a portion of paid family leave is guaranteed. Clinton also discussed the inequality of pay for women, and in particular the lack of women in some industries, particularly Silicon Valley.

Cisco’s International Sales Conference

While in Silicon Valley, Hillary Rodham Clinton made a surprise appearance at Cisco’s International Sales Conference. Cisco CEO John Chambers interviewed Clinton on stage. No cameras were allowed inside and Cisco would not confirm Clinton’s appearance, although a number of Tweets show Clinton and Chambers together on stage.

Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered the keynote address at the OpenSDx conference hosted by Nexenta. She address the crowd of Silicon Valley execs, tech investors, and journalists where she admitted that she was not the most techie person, but she understood how important the companies of Silicon Valley are to the advancement of America in the 21st Century.

Clinton also addressed the situation in Ferguson, Missouri for the first time. She said the killing of teenager Michael Brown by local police shows the economic and social inequalities in America that still needs to be resolved. Many in the media criticized Clinton for not speaking about the incident sooner.
