On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton accepted an award from Girls, Inc. during a luncheon in New York. During the event, Clinton spoke about the importance of advancing equal rights for women and encouraged young women to get involved in politics. She warned that while things can be discouraging at times, its important to focus on the future. Clinton said, “Our work is far from over. In big ways and small, the unfinished business of the 21st century is the full equality of women. There are still too few women in the upper reaches of the private sector, academia, science, technology, not to mention politics and government.” Watch a video of the full speech below.

After President Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending the entry of refugees and blocking entry of immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries, Hillary Clinton tweeted that the order “is not who we are.” The order was signed on Friday and blocks the entry of refugees from all countries for 90 days, but bars Syrian refugees indefinitely. The immigration ban in the order applies to seven countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. The ban has been condemned by US officials, members of Congress from both parties, the international community, and many in the public with demonstrations being held at major airports. On Saturday, a federal judge halted the deportation of immigrants and refugees who were detained at US airports after the ACLU sued the Trump administration.

Meanwhile, Clinton attended a fundraising event at Columbia University in New York on Wednesday. The event was held to raise money for cancer research. The two primary researchers at the university are themselves immigrants: Dr. Azra Raza is from Pakistan and Dr. Siddhartha Mukherjee is from India. The executive order has been condemned by the scientific community because it could block researchers from entering the United States to continue or begin new research. While the federal judge did block some deportations, many of the order’s provisions remain in effect.

While a lot has been published about Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump’s platform plans for foreign and domestic policies, most outlets have ignored thier stance on science, STEM, and space exploration. Clinton has outlined proposals to combat climate change and increase research for certain diseases, but a number of prominent science and space publications have asked the candidates for their thoughts on science and space exploration. Tim Kaine returned to the campaign trail on Wednesday following his strong debate performance on Tuesday night. During his speech in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kaine claimed victory, but did address criticisms that he interrupted Mike Pence too many times joking that even his wife gave him a hard time about it. He did go after Pence for not defending his running mate Donald Trump saying, “Your running mate ought to be able to defend you.” Kaine continued with his speech talking about a number of Hillary’s key platform points including creating new jobs, raising the minimum wage, supporting labor unions, improving health care, supporting the middle class, and ensuring that everyone has an equal chance in America. Bill Clinton remained in Ohio where he wrapped up a multiple day bus tour of the state. This morning he was in Youngstown where he spoke about Hillary’s plans to create new jobs and help communities that have been hit hard by unemployment and a loss of manufacturing and mining jobs. He said that he understands voters’ anger saying, “Look, there’s a reason for the road rage today. People go 15 years without a raise, they’re mad.” He then outlined a number of of Hillary’s platform proposals that would help communities like Youngstown including investments in infrastructure and clean energy. Speaking at the local UAW hall, Bill also spoke about the importance of labor unions and Hillary’s continued support for them while Republicans like Trump and Pence try to stamp out unions. Bill then traveled to Canton where he continued to his focus on the economy and job creation. He said, “I think we’re on the verge of the greatest period of prosperity, discovery and advancement in the history of this country, if we do that right thing.” But, Bill warned, there are people like Trump who are more interested in helping those at the top of the income scale and ignore those in the middle and working classes. He said that in order to grow the economy, we need to tap into previously untapped resources. “We need more manufacturing loans, we need more small business loans and more small business startups, we need more investments in science and technology,” he said. On Monday, Hillary Clinton and her running mate Tim Kaine held a question and answer session on the website Quora. They answered questions on a variety of topics from gun control, jobs, scientific research, Zika virus, and issues that Kaine would focus on a Vice President. The full Q&A session can be read HERE.
On Monday evening, Hillary Clinton spoke during the annual convention of the American Federation of Teachers. Clinton spoke about her dedication to education and teachers saying that she would support efforts to modernize teaching, expand computer science and STEM education, ensure that testing assists teaching, and oppose vouchers and for-profit schools. Two Hillary for America fundraisers were held today. The first was in Portland, Oregon and included a conversation with Senior Policy Advisor Ann O’Leary. The event took place at the home of Leanne Littrell DiLorenzo and John DiLorenzo Jr. The second event was in Atlanta, Georgia. The event featured former Congressman Barney Frank and was held for LGBTQ and Allies for Hillary. The event was hosted by Alan Brewer and Michael Goltzman.
On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton attended two fundraisers and held a town hall event for digital content creators in Los Angeles, California. During the event, Clinton spoke about her plans to cultivate innovation and assist young people with their startups. Clinton then took questions from those in attendance and spoke about a number of topics including job creation, foreign policy alliances, and her thoughts on Republican Donald Trump.
Clinton also unveiled her Initiative on Technology & Innovation on Tuesday. While some of the details were discussed at an event earlier in the day in Denver, more details were discussed during the evening’s town hall. While voters headed to the polls in Indiana, Bill Clinton campaigned for Hillary Clinton in Kentucky, a state that holds its primary on May 17. Clinton began by touring the Morehead State’s Space Science Center and giving a speech to supporters. He spoke about the economy, the future of education, and the continued expansion of health care coverage. He praised the university for its work in the science and space sector saying, “The No. 1 export industry in the Commonwealth of Kentucky is not bourbon, it’s not coal, or is it cars. The No. 1 export industry in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, an $8 billion industry, is the aeronautics and aerospace industry.”
Clinton then traveled to Lexington where he spoke to a group of supporters on the campus of the University of Kentucky. During his speech, Clinton spoke about health care and how Kentucky was one of the best states in the country with regard to the Affordable Care Act. The exchanges were well maintained and Medicaid coverage was helping those who were underinsured. But he said that “you elected a Republican governor” who “wrecked” it. He was referring to Governor Matt Bevin who has dismantled the Affordable Care Act framework in the state. Clinton also spoke about an number of Hillary’s platform points including the economy and bringing down the cost of higher education.
The final event of the day was in Louisville where he gave a stump speech to supporters at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage. Clinton spoke about Hillary’s plans for the future and her long career of fighting for the middle class. While in Louisville, he also made a number of unscheduled stops downtown where he wondered into shops and visited with the owners and clients. Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared at the Inaugural Watermark Conference for Women in Silicon Valley. She spoke at length about the lack of women in Silicon Valley and the challenges facing young women and girls interested in entering the fields of science and technology. After her speech, Clinton was interviewed by Re/code CEO Kara Swisher. They continued the conversation about women in the Valley and the technology field. The topic of 2016 did come up briefly, but Clinton dodged the question.
