Hillary Clinton to Release New Book, Speak at Alma Mater

Hillary Clinton is returning to public spotlight. She has attended a few events since she lost the presidential race in November, but today several upcoming events were announced. The biggest announcement was from publisher Simon & Schuster who will publish a collection of personal essays by Clinton this fall. The book is described to include a number of her favorite quotes to “tell stories from her life, up to and including her experiences in the 2016 presidential campaign.” Simon & Schuster also announced a children’s book version of Clinton’s book, It Takes a Village, will be released in September. The new edition will feature illustrations by Marla Frazee and all proceeds will be donated to charity.

It was also announced that she will be returning to the speech circuit with several events planned in the coming months. The most notable will be a commencement address at Wellesley College, her alma mater. Clinton gained notoriety for becoming the first student speaker at her own commencement in 1969. Other speeches on tap for Clinton include an event at the United States Postal Service honoring fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, a speech organized by Vital Voices on International Women’s Day, and a speech at a New York LGBT Community Center. Hillary Clinton Discusses Health with Anderson Cooper

On Monday evening, Hillary Clinton called in to AC360 on CNN where she was asked by Anderson Cooper about the state of her health. Clinton said that she felt dizzy during yesterday’s September 11 memorial event and left. Following her diagnosis with pneumonia on Friday, she said she was advised to rest. “I was supposed to rest five days — that’s what they told me on Friday — and I didn’t follow that very wise advice,” Clinton said. Cooper then asked Clinton about her transparency about her health asking why she did not inform the public about the illness sooner. Clinton defended herself saying that she did not think it was “going to be that big a deal,” but she added that she has been transparent with releasing medial records last year. The Clinton campaign announced today that additional health records will be released later in the week. The video of Clinton’s interview is below.

Hillary Clinton Diagnosed with Pneumonia

Update (9/12/2016): Hillary Clinton tweeted today that she is feeling better and anxious to return to the campaign trail.

This morning, Hillary Clinton attended a ceremony honoring the survivors and victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City. Clinton attended the event for about an hour an half before she left. She was seen stumbling as she got into a van provided by her security detail. Clinton’s campaign told members of the press that she left because she was feeling “overheated” and was taken to Chelsea Clinton’s apartment. She was seen leaving the apartment and returned to her back to her home where she was evaluated by her physician, Dr. Lisa R. Bardack. Dr. Bardack then released the following statement:

“Secretary Clinton has been experiencing a cough related on allergies. On Friday, during a follow up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She was put on antibiotic, and advised to rest and modify her schedule. While at this morning’s event, she became overheated and dehydrated. I have just examined her and she is now re-hydrated and recovering nicely.”

Obviously the headline is that Clinton was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday, but the campaign only announced the diagnosis after this morning’s episode. Clinton and her campaign have been criticized for their lack of transparency, and Clinton’s health has been questioned. While the events of the day do nothing to help either case, we wish Clinton a speedy recovery. She is scheduled to campaign on the west coast this week.

Reviewing Hillary Clinton’s Schedule as Secretary of State

Over the past week, several news outlets have been reviewing Hillary Clinton’s daily schedule as Secretary of State. The 3,721 page document was released by the State Department and includes Clinton’s daily schedule from January 22, 2009 to June 30, 2011. Clinton left the State Department in February 2012, and the rest of her daily schedule will be released later this year.

The schedule is interesting because of it’s detail. It is a minute-by-minute account of Clinton’s time as Secretary of State. The schedule includes names of people she met with, countries she visited, and when she was in her office. The report has revealed that Clinton met with a number of people in an official capacity (heads of state, diplomats, etc.), and she met with a number of guests including Bill and Melinda Gates, actor Ben Affleck, and musician Jon Bon Jovi. Clinton has been criticized recently for allegedly meeting with donors to the Clinton Foundation, and some have suggested that Clinton’s time was for sale via donations to the foundation. While there is some overlap between those Clinton met with and donors to the foundation, there is no evidence that any influence was bought.

What the schedule provides is an intimate look at the life of the most traveled Secretary of State in the history of the post. Of course, there were a number of redactions made the State Department, but the extreme detail is interesting to read. Clinton Accepts Presidential Debate Schedule

On Monday, Hillary for America Chair John Podesta released a statement saying that Hillary Clinton has accepted the dates and locations for the presidential debates as scheduled by the independent debate commission. Republican Donald Trump has voiced his concerns about the debates and moderators. The debates will begin in late September with the last in late October, a few weeks before the election. View the debate dates on our Scheduled Events page. Presidential debates are scheduled by an independent organization. A copy of Podesta’s statement is below.

“Secretary Clinton looks forward to participating in all three presidential debates scheduled by the independent debate commission. With so much at stake in the fall elections, she believes these debates will provide the American people with an important opportunity to hear from the candidates on issues critical to the country’s future. It is concerning that the Trump campaign is already engaged in shenanigans around these debates. It is not clear if he is trying to avoid the debates, or merely toying with the press to create more drama. Either way, our campaign is not interested in playing along with a debate about debates or bargaining around them. The only issue now is whether Donald Trump is going to show up to debate at the date, times, places and formats set by the commission last year through a bipartisan process. We accept the commission’s invitation and expect Donald Trump will do the same.”

DNC Wrap-Up: Day 3

Wednesday night’s events at the Democratic National Convention included the acceptance speech of Senator Tim Kaine as the party’s vice presidential candidate. In his speech, Kaine thanked his family before “humbly” accepting the nomination. He spoke about Hillary Clinton’s experience and why the 2016 election is vital for the country. A video biography of Kaine and a video of his speech are below.

Speakers from the evening included New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Reverend Jesse Jackson, former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, California Governor Jerry Brown, Senator Chris Murphy, Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly, Former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, and Michael Bloomberg. The headline speeches from the event were from Vice President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama. Biden gave an energetic speech supporting Clinton while President Obama gave a stirring speech in which the overall message was America is better than Donald Trump. The DNC released another set of videos highlighting Clinton’s long career, attacking Trump, and presenting an alternative to the Republican vision of America’s future.

Today is the final day of the Democratic National Convention from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and tonight, Hillary Clinton will officially accept the party’s nomination. DNC Wrap-Up: Day 2

On Tuesday evening, the second night of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia made history by officially nominating Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party’s candidate for president. Clinton becomes the first female candidate to receive the nomination of a major political party. Clinton made a brief appearance via satellite from New York and thanked everyone for their support. She will officially accept the party’s nomination during her speech on Thursday.

In additional to the historic moment, the evening also featured another marquee night of speeches. Those taking the stage included Former Senator Tom Harkin, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, Senator Chuck Schumer, the principal and students from Eagle Academy, Former Attorney General Eric Holder, Senator Barbara Boxer, Representative Joseph Crowley, Mothers of the Moment, former Governor of Vermont Howard Dean, and actress Meryl Streep. The most powerful speech of the evening was delivered by President Bill Clinton. He focused on he and Hillary’s relationship and personal life. He called Hillary “the best darn change-maker” that he has ever seen and said that she will fight for everyone and does not back down from a fight. The DNC is also featuring a series of videos highlighting Clinton’s career and personal life. Included in those videos Tuesday was one covering her time as Secretary of State and one about how she worked with the Eagle Academy. A third video was about the career of Bill Clinton. Hillary Clinton Nominated by the Democratic Party

It is official! Tonight, the Democratic Party’s delegates cast their ballots to nominate the party’s presidential candidate. Hillary Clinton won the vote in the first round becoming the first female nominee of a major political party. The nomination is the culmination of over forty years of public service. Clinton will speak during the Democratic National Convention on Thursday to accept the party’s nomination.
