Clinton Meets with Law Enforcement Officials

Hillary Clinton met with several top law enforcement officials form across the country on Thursday. During a meeting in New York City, Clinton briefly addressed the media and the group and spoke about the importance of working with law enforcement groups to ensure they are getting the required training and resources for them to keep the public safe. She said, “I think we can come together with a sense of shared purpose, and a belief in our common destiny to have a purpose where we go forth united and do everything possible to respond to any legitimate questions, to find answers together and to keep our communities safe, to protect lives and property, while also respecting every single American.”

The of officials that attended the meeting represent a wide variety of populations and included decades of experience. Those attending the discussion included: New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck, Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus, New York City Chief of Department James O’Neil, Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole, former Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, Camden Police Chief Scott Thomson, and Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez. Following her brief remarks, Clinton listened to the concerns of each of the officials and the challenges they face in their respective jurisdictions. A video of Clinton’s statement is below.

Meanwhile, in Bozeman, Montana, actress Jennifer Garner attended a fundraiser on behalf of Hillary for America. The event was hosted by Carol Williams.

Democratic National Convention Schedule: Day 4

Today is the final day of the Democratic National Convention from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and tonight, Hillary Clinton will officially accept the party’s nomination. Hillary Clinton Calls for Unity in Illinois Speech

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton gave a speech at the Old State Capital in Springfield, Illinois. Speaking at the same venue as President Abraham Lincoln, Clinton gave a speech reminiscent of his “House Divided” speech in 1858. Clinton quotes Lincoln’s speech a number of time as she spoke about race and called for unity. “The challenges we face today do not approach those of Lincoln’s time, not even close, and we should be clear about that. But recent events across America have left people asking if we are still a house divided,” she said.

Clinton attacked Republican Donald Trump for turning the “Party of Lincoln” into the “Party of Trump.” She referred to Trump’s comments against Muslims, Mexicans, and women as an example of how Trump is a divisive figure. She said, “We need a president who can pull us together, not split us apart.” Clinton went on to say that “despite our best efforts and highest hopes, America’s long struggle with race is far from finished.” But if we work toward bridging the divides in the country, we will remain, in Lincoln’s words, “the last best hope on Earth.” A video of Clinton’s speech is below and a transcript can be read HERE.

Across the country fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America. In St. Louis, Missouri, Clinton attended a fundraiser following her speech in Illinois. Senior Policy Advisor Jake Sullivan and Domestic Policy Advisor Sara Solow attended a lunch fundraiser in Menlo Park, California. Also in California, Trevor Houser spoke at a clean energy roundtable discussion that was hosted by Mike Levin and Michael Swords. Finally, in New York City, De’Ara Balenger attended a fundraiser hosted by Phil Mahla and Neil Printz, and Mary Delaney Penick and David Penick.

Hillary Clinton Kicks Off Five Days of California Campaigning

After delivering her major foreign policy speech in San Diego, Clinton continued her campaign in California by speaking at a Get Out the Vote rally in El Centro. During her speech, Clinton praised the area’s agricultural economy and spoke about her plans for comprehensive immigration reform in addition to a number of her platform points including continuing to expand health care and her vow to work with Republicans who are willing to work with her. She then asked for voters’ support in next Tuesday’s primary saying that the 2016 election is going to be very important. A video from the event is below.

Clinton wrapped up the day by visiting with community leaders in Perris. During the round table conversation, Clinton spoke about the importance of education and her dedication to lowering the cost of higher education and expanding early childhood education. She stressed making education affordable for everyone saying, “I don’t offer free college to everybody. I figure, if you can afford it — if you are billionaire or a millionaire — you should pay for it. But that’s not true to most middle-class working or striving families. Hillary Clinton Campaigns for an Extra Day in California

On Friday, Hillary Clinton spent an extra day in California. The event she attended was a discussion with community leaders in Oakland. Meeting at a local restaurant called Home of Chicken and Waffles, Clinton and a group of local officials and business owners discussed what the federal government can do to help local governments. Describing the purpose of the meeting she said, “I want to know how the federal government and me, particularly, can be a better partner. I want to be a champion for Oakland and all the other Oaklands in the country.” The group discussed a number of topics from wages, jobs, urban policy, and urban renewal. She admitted that there aren’t easy answers for every problem at the local level, but decisions made at the local level are very important. The panel consisted of Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan, Oakland Unified School District Superintendent Antwan Wilson, Regina Jackson, CEO of the East Oakland Youth Development Center, and Derreck Johnson, owner of the Home of Chicken and Waffles.

Hillary Clinton Campaigns in Lexington and Louisville

On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton held three events in Kentucky while citizens of neighboring West Virginia voted in their Democratic primary. Clinton’s first event was in Lexington where she laid out a new plan to help parents with the rising costs of child care. Speaking at a roundtable event, Clinton outlined the plan and spoke with care providers and parents about the importance of child care and the struggle for many families to find and afford adequate care. The bullet points of the plan includes:

• Improve the quality of care by giving a RAISE (Respect And Increased Salaries for Early Childhood Educators) to America’s child care workforce
• Provide home visiting services for more than 2 million parents and children in the next 10 years
• Support young parents as the balance family responsibilities and their careers
• Award scholarships of up to $1,500 per year to as many as one million student parents
• Increase access to child care on college campuses by serving an additional 250,000 children
• Doubling federal investment in high quality early learning programs
• Making preschool universal for every 4-year old in America
• Proving working parents paid time off to care for a new baby

Clinton then traveled to Louisville where she spoke at a rally. During her speech, Clinton focused on the economy and her plans to raise incomes and create new jobs. She also spoke about a number of other platform points before turning her attention to local politics and her Republican opposition. She criticized Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin for his plans to scrap the state’s health insurance exchanges and the state’s expansion of medicaid, both of which were provided as a result of the Affordable Care Act. Clinton then turned her attention to Republicans and their endless attacks on her career saying, “The right wing never gives up attacking me. I think they are going to throw everything but the kitchen sink at me…I’ve got a message for them. They’ve done it for 25 years and I’m still standing.” A video from the event will be posted when/if available.

In the evening, Clinton spoke at a second organizing event in Louisville. During her speech at Louisville Slugger Field, Clinton took a number of shots at presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump and his disparaging comments about women and minorities. She said, “You could not imagine a more different vision for our country than the one between our side, of Democrats for progress, for prosperity, for fairness and opportunity than the presumptive nominee on the Republican side.” Clinton focused on her plans to continue the progress of President Barack Obama’s administration and ensure that people have access to health care and affordable higher education. Hillary Clinton Campaigns in Connecticut, Rhode Island

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton spent the day in Connecticut and Rhode Island. In New Haven, Connecticut, Clinton held a rountable event that focused on working families. The primary topics of discussion were ways to raise wages, including the minimum wage, promote early childhood education, and reduce the wage gap between men and women. On the topic of equal pay, she said, “Equal pay — we shouldn’t be talking about it in 2016. It is almost embarrassing.” Clinton has returned to holding smaller conversational campaign events as she rallies supporters for next week’s primaries in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Clinton then rallied supporters at an organizing event in Central Falls, Rhode Island. During her speech, Clinton spoke about a number of platform topics including women’s rights, organized labor, health care, immigration reform, gun control, and climate change. She also took a shot at her Democratic rival Bernie Sanders by saying, “I am not making promises I can’t keep.” She praised Rhode Islanders and asked for their support on Tuesday. Hillary Clinton on Good Morning America, Campaigns in CT

On Thursday morning, Hillary Clinton appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America for a town hall style segment. Clinton was interviewed by Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos before taking questions from those in attendance. She was asked questions on a number of topics including some of her platform points, her Democratic rival Bernie Sanders, her thoughts on the Republican presidential candidates, and she was asked some light hearted questions as well. She was asked what her husband’s (former president Bill Clinton) most annoying habit was. She answered, “No matter how tired he is, he always feels like he has to read before he goes to sleep. That means I have to get up and go around and turn the light off before I go to bed!” A video from this morning’s episode is below.

Clinton then went to Hartford, Connecticut where she attended a conversation on gun violence held at the Wilson-Gray YMCA. Clinton also met with families of victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The discussion included families that have lost loved ones as a direct result of shootings or gun violence. During the 90-minute conversation, a number of the family members shared their stories, the group took questions from the audience, and Clinton said that she would fight for common sense gun control and the introduction of mandatory background checks before purchasing a firearm. She said, “If anything else was killing 33,000 Americans a year, we’d be doing something about it. I’m not here to make promises I can’t keep. But I will spend every day as President trying to get gun control.” A video from today’s event is below.

This evening, Clinton returned to New York City for a fundraiser hosted by Donna Zaccaro and Paul Ullman, Anne and John Zaccaro.

Hillary Takes Part in Equal Pay Roundtable, Celebrates First Year of Campaign

Tuesday was Equal Pay Day and Hillary Clinton attended a round table event at Glassdoor where she outlined her plan to raise the wages of women across the country. She called for the passage of the Paycheck Fairness Act which would make it illegal for an employer to fire someone for finding out how much a co-worker makes. Clinton also said she would require every company to review its compensation and evaluate whether women are paid equally. She also vowed to work with states to ensure current equal pay statutes across the country are still being followed. Clinton called for more transparency saying, “There’s not enough transparency, and we don’t know exactly what the pay gaps are in many settings, predominantly in the private sector. We need to use the federal government, the Department of Labor and others, to really encourage more transparency, to get more public information.”

The conversation included: World Cup Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Megan Rapinoe; Glassdoor CEO Robert Hohman; Make It Work Co-founder & Co-executive Director Tracey Sturdivant; Clayman Institute for Gender Research Executive Director Lori Nishiura MacKenzie; Gap Foundation President and Gap Sustainability Vice President Dan Henkle and award-winning journalist Diane Brady. Clinton then traveled to Florida where she attended three fundraisers. The first event was in Manalapan where she attended an event at the home of Marsha and Henry Laufer. Clinton’s second event was in Miami Beach and included a conversation with Congressman Joaquín Castro, Kristin Davis, and Raúl De Molina. Singer Carole King also performed at the event. The final event of the day was held at the Miami Beach home of Tiffany and Alex Heckler. Congressman Castro also attended the event with Hillary.

Today also marks one year since Clinton announced her plans to run for president. Since April 2015, Clinton has received millions in donations, leads in the race for the Democratic nomination, and has rolled out an comprehensive platform.
