Chelsea Clinton and Anne Holton continued to meet with voters across the country today. Chelsea began in Greeneville, North Carolina where she spoke at East Carolina University. Chelsea covered a number of Hillary Clinton’s platform plans including her new college compact. Under the plan, students repaying student loans would be able to refinance their loans at lower interest rates thus saving money. Future students whose families make less than $125,000 a year and attend a public college or technical school will be able to graduate debt-free.

In Asheville, Chelsea spoke to a group of supporters at The Collider. She focused her remarks on climate change and renewable energy. Chelsea spoke about how Hillary’s plans will invest in clean energy while creating jobs, especially in parts of North Carolina who have been affected by the shrinking fossil fuel industry. “We need to be building solar panel factories exactly in those places. We need to be investing in coal country and in places where those kind of jobs have slowly disappeared as the industry has waned.” Videos from today’s events will be posted when/if available.

Holton campaigned on behalf of Hillary today in Michigan. In Lansing, Holton held a “Moms for Hillary” roundtable discussion where they discussed a number of issues such as childcare costs, education costs, and equal pay. She then traveled to Grand Rapids where she held an education roundtable where she spoke about Hillary’s plan to reduce the cost of higher education and her plan to expand early childhood education. Holton has a background in education with her most recently serving as Secretary of Education for the state of Virginia. A video from the events will be posted when/if available.

On Monday, Tim Kaine campaigned in Florida beginning with a rally in Lakeland. During his speech, Kaine spoke about a number of Hillary Clinton’s platform points and about her personally. He framed her as a hard worker with supporters on both sides of the aisle saying, “Even when folks have been battling with her about stuff, she knows them. And in the Senate, which I know better than the House, there’s high regard for her work ethic, (and a view that) we can work together with her.” Kaine also spoke about tonight’s debate between Clinton and Republican Donald Trump saying he is anxious to see Trump answer for a number of his lies. A video from the event is below.

Kaine then traveled to Orlando where he attended a roundtable discussion with a group of Latino community leaders. During the event, Kaine spoke about the importance of Latino voters and urged them to register. He also spoke about Clinton’s proposals for immigration reform and how they are starkly different from those of Trump. “We should be a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws. Our focus shouldn’t be on deportation en masse, it should be on people who pose serious safety challenges,” he said. Kaine then listened as the community leaders and local residents expressed their concerns. A video from the event will be added when/if available.

A series of fundraisers were held today on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was a Disability Action for Hillary event in Washington, DC. The event featured a conversation with Eric H. Holder, Jr., 82nd Attorney General of the United States. A fundraiser in support of the Hillary Victory fund was held for American Citizens living in the Toronto, Canada area.

Hillary for America Releases ‘College Calculator’

collegecalculator1

On Monday, Hillary for America released a new “college calculator” that will show past students how Hillary Clinton’s plan will reduce what they owe, and the site also shows future students how they will benefit from proposed plan. A copy of the HFA release is below and be sure to check out the College Calculator.

Hillary for America released a ‘college calculator’ today for families and students to see how much they would save under her New College Compact, her debt-free college plan to ensure that cost is never a barrier for young people seeking to pursue their dreams of higher education and that debt won’t hold them back.

The calculator, also available in Spanish, will allow users to calculate how Clinton’s plan will provide relief from crushing debt as it allows all borrowers to refinance their student loans, and enroll in income-based repayment plans.

The calculator also will help families planning for college to determine the cost based on their annual household income, where they live, what type of college their student plans on attending, and understand when they can benefit from special programs in Hillary Clinton’s college plans. The special programs include those available for student-parents, veterans or those serving in active military duty, those who have served or are contemplating serving on AmeriCorps, and those students contemplating attending a Historically Black College or University, Hispanic Serving Institution or other Minority Serving Institution.

With too many families struggling with student debt, and tuition increasing by 40% over the last ten years at public college and universities, the situation has careened out of control. Hillary’s plan will help millions of Americans with their debt right now, and will make college debt-free for future generations. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has offered no solutions to make college more affordable, and his idea of higher education is Trump University – a fraudulent business that left hundreds of students in debt and without the skills they were promised they would obtain.

The college calculator helps students and families:

  • Calculate their total savings under Hillary Clinton’s college affordability plans for the remaining length of time left on their student loans with their remaining loan balance.
  • Understand how they can take advantage of her student loan refinancing plan in order to reduce their loan payments.
  • Understand how they can benefit from income-based repayment plans to bring down their monthly loan payments to something more manageable.
  • Understand the special savings available to those with student debt who choose to work in public service, become entrepreneurs or have served/decide to serve in AmeriCorps and highlights some of the steps that Hillary Clinton will take to protect and strengthen the educational benefits that veterans have earned through their service.
  • Understand how based on what state they live in, what school they are planning on attending and their household income, the savings and benefits available to them under Hillary Clinton’s college plans.
  • Understand the tuition savings they will get on a per-state basis and based on their household income if they choose to attend a 4-year in-state public university or a community college.
  • Identify when students may be eligible to take advantage of Pell grants to use towards college-related costs.
  • Take advantage of special debt-reduction benefits available to them if they choose to go to school out of state or attend a private university.

Clinton Focuses on Voter Registration in Philadelphia

hillary-clinton-wphs-rally-940x540

In West Philadelphia, Hillary Clinton spoke at a rally where she urged everyone to vote in November. She spoke about a number of her proposals including creating millions of jobs, standing up to the gun lobby, repairing the country’s failing infrastructure, and regulating Wall Street to prevent a market crash. Clinton went after Donald Trump’s economic plan which experts say will greatly benefit top earners. Clinton called the proposal the “Trump loophole” because, by some estimates, he would earn nearly $4 billion. Clinton said that her plans focus on everyone, “I can find a much better use for those $4 billion. In fact, we could hire 95,000 public school teachers for $4 billion. We could actually double health care for our veterans for $4 billion dollars. And we can invest in more infrastructure, affordable housing and small business for $4 billion right here in Pennsylvania.” A video from the event is below.

Statement from HFA Responding to Trump’s Ideological Test for Immigrants

Hillary_for_America_2016_logo.svg

Hillary for America Senior Policy Advisor Jake Sullivan today responded to a proposal made by Republican Donald Trump last week. Trump called for Muslim immigrants entering or visiting the United States to be submitted to an ideological test. In a statement, Sullivan said that Trump’s proposal “cannot be taken seriously.” The campaign also released a video highlighting Trump’s comments. Sullivan’s statement and HFA’s video are below.

“This so-called ‘policy’ cannot be taken seriously.  How can Trump put this forward with a straight face when he opposes marriage equality and selected as his running mate the man who signed an anti-LGBT law in Indiana?  It’s a cynical ploy to escape scrutiny of his outrageous proposal to ban an entire religion from our country and no one should fall for it.”

Clinton Proposes Universal Health Care

933DEM 2016 Clinton

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton and her campaign released an expansion to her health care plan that provides additional details on how, as president, she would achieve universal health care. Parts of the plan are suggestions from the campaign of former Democratic rival Senator Bernie Sanders. The expanded plan has three primary points:

  1. Work with state governors to expand Medicaid in every state.
  2. Reign in the cost of health care by ensuring low premiums, reforming the prescription drug industry to allow for price negotiations, and capping the maximum out of pocket expenses for a family per year.
  3. Expand Medicare to all Americans 55 years old and older.

In the release, Clinton stresses the importance of insuring all Americans and ensuring that everyone has access to affordable health care, dental and vision care, and affordable prescription drugs. The full plan is available on The Briefing.

Read: Hillary Clinton’s Broad Presidential Platform

09CLINTONweb1-superJumbo

Since launching her campaign last April, Hillary Clinton has outlined a number of major platform points in a series of speeches. Now that it it is clear the general election will be Clinton versus Republican Donald Trump, it is important that Clinton continue to deliver substantive speeches and combat a Trump platform that seems to offer no substance or foundation. Clinton’s platform is built on a career of public service and an understanding of domestic and foreign policies. While not everyone may agree with points of her platform, taken as a whole it is clear that she has put together a solid plan to more the country forward and ensure that everyone has an opportunity to live up to their full potential.

When Clinton has introduced a major platform topic, we add it to the Platform category of the website. Looking through Clinton’s speeches and policy proposals, a clear plan emerges. From Clinton’s kickoff rally in June 2015 to the announcement of the proposed cap on child care costs and expanded early childhood education earlier this month, a list of Clinton’s platform speech topics and announcement dates are below:

Clinton Speaks at African Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia

Hillary-Clinton-7

On Friday evening, Hillary Clinton spoke in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Clinton spoke about the events of the week: the police killing of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; the police shooting of Philando Castile in St. Paul, Minnesota; and the sniper attack in Dallas, Texas that killed five police officers and wounded several others. Clinton said that each of the killings were “senseless” and condemned violence saying, “We know there is something wrong in this country. There is too much violence, too much hate, too much senseless killing. Too many people dead who shouldn’t be.”

Clinton spoke about the racial divide that only seems to be growing saying, “As we know, there is clear evidence that African-Americans are much more likely to be killed in police incidents than any other group of Americans. And we know there is too little trust in too many places between police and the communities they are sworn to protect.” Clinton said that good law enforcement officers far outnumber those who are bad and a violent response to violence is not the answer. The protest in Dallas yesterday was peaceful and police were there to monitor the crowds and ensure the protesters’ safety when they were fired upon by a sniper. Clinton spoke about her proposal to invest $1 billion in police training across the county to ensure the safety of law enforcement officers as well as the general public. A video of Clinton’s speech is below and a transcript can be read HERE.
