Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus Stump for Hillary

Musicians Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus hit the campaign trail in support of Hillary Clinton on Saturday. At George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, Cyrus went door-to-door in Piedmont Hall and met with students and urged them to vote for Clinton on November 8th or to take advantage of early voting. During the primary, Cyrus was a supporter of Senator Bernie Sanders and she has been working to get Sanders supporters to back Clinton for president.

Meanwhile, Perry was in Las Vegas, Nevada where she spent the afternoon on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. She began by knocking on dorm doors and asking students to vote for Clinton. Perry stuck around for an early voting event held on the campus. During the event, Perry spoke about the importance of voting and electing Clinton president, but also the importance of electing Democrats down ballot into office as well saying, “We got a crew. We got a clique. We all run together.” Perry then introduced Democratic US Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto who spoke to the crowd about the election and urged the them to vote on November 8th. Clinton Statement on Endorsement of the Working Families Party

On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton receive the endorsement of the Working Families Party, a group that backed Senator Bernie Sanders during the Democratic primary. Clinton released a statement reaffirming her commitment to working families and building the middle class. A copy of her statement is below.

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Working Families Party.

Working families are the engine behind our economy, the heart of our democracy, and the core of what makes America great.  But today, it’s too hard for working people to get ahead and stay ahead.

That’s why the Working Families Party is so important.  For almost two decades, they have fought to make our economy fairer and our country stronger. They’ve fought to raise the minimum wage in states and cities across the country; combat climate change and create new, good-paying jobs in clean energy and energy efficiency; and train and elect trailblazing progressive leaders.

As President, I’ll stand with working families like I have my entire career.  We’ll build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top, and finally make the minimum wage a living wage.  We’ll overturn Citizens United and protect every American’s right to vote, not every corporation’s right to buy elections. Clinton Statement on the Resignation of DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz

On Sunday, Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced she would resign her position following the conclusion of this week’s Democratic National Convention. The resignation comes after leaked emails show that the Democratic operatives favored Hillary Clinton over Senator Bernie Sanders during the primary campaign. Clinton released a statement praising Schultz for her dedication to the party and her constituents in Florida. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below.

“I want to thank my longtime friend Debbie Wasserman Schultz for her leadership of the Democratic National Committee over the past five years. I am grateful to Debbie for getting the Democratic Party to this year’s historic convention in Philadelphia, and I know that this week’s events will be a success thanks to her hard work and leadership. There’s simply no one better at taking the fight to the Republicans than Debbie–which is why I am glad that she has agreed to serve as honorary chair of my campaign’s 50-state program to gain ground and elect Democrats in every part of the country, and will continue to serve as a surrogate for my campaign nationally, in Florida, and in other key states. Clinton Unveils Plan to Make College Debt-Free

Today, Hillary Clinton’s campaign unveiled additional details of her plan to reduce the cost of higher education for families and students. Under Clinton’s proposed plan, tuition at in-state public college would be eliminated for families with incomes of less than $125,000 per year. The plan is a combination of her previous plan as well as some key points from her Democratic primary rival Bernie Sanders.

In addition, Clinton’s plan would call for a three-month moratorium on all federal student loan payments. During that time, borrowers could restructure their debt and save money by lowering interest. Full details of Clinton’s plan are available on The Briefing and are outlined below:

• Provide immediate help to graduates who need relief from crushing debt
  • Refinance their student loans
  • Enroll in income-based repayment
  • Push employers to contribute to student debt relief
  • Get relief from debt for starting a business or social enterprise
  • Reward public service
• Debt-Free college for our future students
  • Eliminate college tuition for working families
  • Help students deal with all the costs of attending college
• The New College Compact
  • Colleges and universities will be accountable for reining in costs to provide value to their students; improving completion rates and learning outcomes; and doing more to provide students from disadvantaged backgrounds with the tools they need to reach college and succeed once they get there.
  • Students will be expected to work 10 hours a week to help defray the full cost of attendance. Clinton will push to expand work opportunities that build career skills and introduce students of all backgrounds to public service careers.
  • As part of this New College Compact, Hillary will encourage and reward innovators who design imaginative new ways of providing valuable higher education to students while driving down costs.  And she will crack down on the abusive practices of for-profit colleges that defraud taxpayers while burdening students with debt for educational programs of no value.

Hillary Clinton Wins Washington, DC Primary

On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton won the Democratic primary in Washington, DC defeating rival Senator Bernie Sanders. With 46.9% of precincts reporting, Clinton currently leads Sanders 78.9% to 20.9%. Clinton secured enough delegates to grab the Democratic nomination following last week’s primaries, and tonight’s election in DC represents the last primary in the cycle. The next event for the Democratic Party will be the Democratic Convention July 25-29, 2016.

Tonight, Clinton and Sanders met in Washington, DC to discuss the path forward and ensure that Republican Donald Trump is not elected president in November. Both campaigns released a statement saying that the meeting went well. A Clinton campaign official said, “The two discussed a variety of progressive issues where they share common goals like raising wages for working families, eliminating undisclosed money in politics and reducing the cost of college for students and their families.” Clinton has made it clear that she is willing to work with Sanders to ensure unity within the Democratic Party, but Sanders has refused to concede.

Hillary Clinton Endorsed by Rev. Jesse Jackson

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson. Speaking in Chicago, Jackson says that he trusts Clinton to look out for marginalized communities, continue to work on health care, fight for civil rights, and fight for the poor. Jackson had declined to support either Clinton or her Democratic primary rival Bernie Sanders during the primary campaign. He also called on Democrats to unite behind Clinton to ensure that Republican Donald Trump does not make it to the White House.

Hillary Clinton Endorsed by President Obama

On a day where Hillary Clinton was endorsed by a number of important trade unions and an environmental group, she received one of the biggest endorsements possible from President Barack Obama. Clinton battled Obama in the 2008 primary and served as his Secretary of State from 2009 – 2013. In a video released by the Clinton campaign, Obama said, “I know how hard this job can be. That’s why I know Hillary will be so good at it. In fact, I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office.” Clinton responded on Twitter saying that it is an honor to have him on board. The endorsement video is below.

Hillary Clinton Wins in CA, NJ, NM, and SD

Updated: 6/8/2016 – 6:15pm ET

Hillary Clinton had a historic night winning four out of the six primaries and securing the delegates necessary to wrap up the Democratic nomination. Clinton won at the ballot boxes in New Jersey (63.3% to 36.7%), New Mexico (51.5% to 48.5%), South Dakota (51.0% to 49.0%), and California (55.8% to 43.2%). Meanwhile, Sanders won the North Dakota caucuses (64.2% to 25.6%) and the Montana primary (51.1% to 44.6%). All eyes were on California which offered the most delegates of any state. While polls indicated that the results would be close, Clinton pulled off a decisive win. Some votes are still being counted, so these numbers will updated throughout the day.

In Brooklyn, New York, Clinton spoke to a crowd of supporters and said that she is proud to be the Democratic nominee. She spoke about the historic moment of becoming the first female presidential candidate nominated by a major party by saying, “Thanks to you, we’ve reached a milestone, the first time in our nation’s history that a woman will be a major party’s nominee!” Clinton praised the efforts of Sanders and his years of service in Congress before calling for unity in the Democratic Party to ensure the defeat of Republican nominee Donald Trump. Hillary Clinton is the Presumptive Democratic Nominee

Following yesterday’s primary in Puerto Rico and the addition of pledged superdelegates, the AP and other new outlets have reported Hillary Clinton has reached the necessary 2,383 delegates to secure the Democratic Party’s nomination for president. The nomination is historic as Clinton becomes the first female presidential nominee of a major political party. In Long Beach, California, Clinton addressed the news saying, “According to the news, we are on the brink of a historic, historic, unprecedented moment but we still have work to do don’t we? We have six elections tomorrow and we are going to fight hard for every single vote especially right here in California!”

On Twitter, Clinton’s team downplayed the headline saying that she is still fighting for votes in the six states that vote tomorrow: California, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, New Jersey, and South Dakota. Campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement, “This is an important milestone, but there are six states that are voting Tuesday, with millions of people heading to the polls, and Hillary Clinton is working to earn every vote. We look forward to Tuesday night, when Hillary Clinton will clinch not only a win in the popular vote, but also the majority of pledged delegates.” Tomorrow night, Clinton is hosting an election night party in Brooklyn where she is expected to celebrate securing the number of delegates required for the nomination.

Hillary Clinton Campaigns in California on Eve of Primary

Hillary Clinton wrapped up five days of campaigning in California by speaking at several events in Los Angeles area. Clinton’s first event of the day was a Get Out the Vote event in Lynwood where she told supporters about a number of her platform points including equal pay for women, raising the minimum wage, growing the economy, and passing comprehensive immigration reform. Throughout her speech, she criticized Republican nominee Donald Trump for his stance on a number of topics and his divisive rhetoric. Clinton stressed the importance of voting tomorrow saying that a California win would mean a lot to her. Videos of her speech are below (in two parts)

Before her speech in Lynwood, Clinton took several minutes to speak to the press. She was asked about yesterday’s win in the Puerto Rico primary and her thoughts on the prospect of being the first female nominee by a major political party. Clinton said that she is honored to win in Puerto Rico, and she is focused on the six states that vote tomorrow. Clinton was also asked about her thoughts on her race with Bernie Sanders and her plans to go forward against Trump. Clinton said that it is important for the Democratic Party to unify against Trump, and she said that she will reach out to Sanders to work with him and his supporters. Clinton then spoke at rallies in South Los Angeles and Long Beach. During each event, she spoke about her platform points and attacked Trump for his divisive nature. Before the event in Long Beach, news outlets had declared Clinton the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party, but she downplayed the projection saying that there was still a lot of work to be done. She urged supporters to get out and vote for her tomorrow because a win in California would be a great way to begin the general election. A video from the Long Beach event is below.

Clinton’s final event of the night was an appearance at the She’s With Us Concert held at The Greek Theatre. The concert featured performances by Christina Aguilera, Andra Day, John Legend, Ricky Martin, and Stevie Wonder. While Clinton’s appearance was brief, the performers and celebrity guests warmed up the crowd by talking about Clinton’s plans as well as attacking Trump. Other speakers at the event included Cher, Jamie Foxx, Eva Longoria, Mary Steenburgen, Kate Walsh, Chrissy Teigen, and Magic Johnson.
