Clinton Attends Events in Massachusetts

Hillary Rodham Clinton attended a number of events across Massachusetts today. She began by attending a private fundraiser at the home of Linda Mason and Roger Brown in Belmont. Following the event, Clinton went to Boston where she hosted a substance abuse community forum. She has held a number of round table discussions in the Northeast to discuss drug abuse and has used the information to form her drug policy platform. She has stressed that substance abuse should be treated as a disease. Clinton said, “If you have heart disease, cancer, diabetes, you can find a place and you should be able to find a place, and I want substance abuse put on the same level. It saves people’s lives. There’s nothing more important. Save somebody’s life. Give somebody a second chance.”

This evening, Clinton attended a private fundraiser hosted by Boston for Hillary. The press was not in attendance for the private events, but if/when a video from the round table discussion is available, it will be posted.

Clinton Addresses Sexual Assault in Return to Iowa

On Monday, Hillary Rodham Clinton returned to Iowa to speak at two college campuses. The first stop was a Women for Hillary event on the campus of University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls where she outlined her plan to combat sexual assault. She focused her attention primarily to the issue of sexual assault on college campuses, but said that it can  occur anywhere including in the workplace, at home, and in communities. She said that often, the victim feels alone because of the bureaucratic processes involved in reporting incidents. This is especially true on college campuses. She said, “I want to send a message to every survivor of sexual assault: Don’t let anyone silence your voice. You have the right to be heard. You have the right to be believed, and we’re with you.” Clinton vowed to approach the issue by:

1. Making it easier for victims to access help
2. Forcing campuses and the justice system to treat both the accused and victim fairly
3. Increase awareness programs on college campuses and high schools

Following her speech in Cedar Rapids, she spoke with the press where she answered questions about her plan. Clinton then went to Decorah, where she spoke at an event on the campus of Luther College. Her message was similar to her speech in Cedar Rapids saying that more needed to be done to prevent sexual assault and victims deserved to be heard.

Clinton Celebrates with the Foundry United Methodist Church

This morning, Hillary Rodham Clinton attended the service celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington, DC. Clinton attended the service with Bill and Chelsea. She addressed the congregation and spoke about her upbringing in the Methodist Church describing herself as “Methodist both by birth and by choice.” The Clintons were members of the Foundry United Methodist Church during President Clinton’s terms as president.

Clinton also took a moment to talk about her relationship with the press, which has been described as cold and distant. She said, “I got some advice from Dr. Wogaman just earlier this morning, which I promise I will put into effect. Basically he said, if you’re going to read and listen to Romans 12 you got to be nicer to the press. So, to my friends in the press, I will certainly take that to heart.” Over the last few weeks, Clinton has been more open with the press holding press conferences and granting national interviews, something that is expected to continue into the fall. Clinton Speaks at DNC Event

On Friday, Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the summer meeting of the Democratic National Committee. After being introduced by Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Clinton gave a fiery speech in which she talked about key components of her platform, attacked Republicans for being the party of the past, and made it clear that she she should be the only choice for Democrats in 2016. She said, “This election is about who best understands the pressures facing the families of America and the challenges facing us in the world, and who has the skills and tenacity to tackle them.” Following her speech, Clinton answered a number of questions from reporters.

Clinton Attends 3 Fundraisers in 3 States

Clinton Attends a Private Fundraiser in Park City, Utah

Today, Hillary Rodham Clinton attended three fundraisers in three states. She began her day in Park City, Utah where she attended an event at a private home. While no cameras were allowed in the event, supporters said that Clinton spoke about America’s role in the world and child care. It is estimated that 60 people attended the event.

Clinton then traveled to Oregon where she attended a fundraiser at the Portland home of Win McCormack and Carol Butler. A number political figures attended the event including Portland Mayor Charlie Hales, form Governor Ted Kulongoski, and Representatives Suzanne Bonamici and Earl Blumenauer. Clinton met with guests and made brief remarks.

The final stop of the day was in the San Francisco area where she attended an event at the home of former Facebook executive Chris Kelly. As with all private events, none were not open to the public or press, so no video is available.

Clinton Returns to Iowa – Day 2

Hillary Rodham Clinton concluded her second trip to Iowa today in Cedar Falls. Clinton’s primary focus today was small businesses, and she took part in a discussion with small business owners and local residents. As with her first trip to Iowa a few weeks ago, Clinton listened as small business owners talked about their struggles. She made it clear that she was in favor of making small business ownership easier saying, “I want to be the small-business president.” She outlined four areas she intends to turn her focus in assisting small business owners: reducing bureaucratic processes, simplifying the tax code, new tax credits, and access to financing.

After the roundtable discussion, Clinton took questions from reporters. She has been criticized for not talking to the press lately. Media outlets reported that it had been 28 days since Clinton last took a question from a reporter. Following the event, she answered questions from the media, which can be seen in the video below.

After leaving Cedar Rapids, Clinton made an unannounced stop in Independence, Iowa where she visited a number of small businesses.

Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting

In her last scheduled appearance of 2015, and leading up to her probable presidential run, Hillary Rodham Clinton presented the Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting to Washington Post reporter Dan Balz. In her brief remarks, Clinton praised Balz and praised the namesake of the award, Robin Toner. Toner was the first female national political reporter for the New York Times. Clinton joked about her pas relationship with press, but she knows that she will need them on her side when she announces her campaign. She described her relationship with the media as “complicated” at times, but she said, “Those of us on the other side are not always going to be happy about whatever it is you do, but we do understand in our more rational moments that is your job. And we and our democracy depend on you.”

Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared at the McCain Institute sponsored Sedona Forum on the campus of Arizona State University. Clinton took part in the forum “Global Crisis and American Leadership” with Senator John McCain.  The two spoke at length about the current situation in Ukraine and our current relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Clinton and McCain also discussed free press, the Middle East, and Benghazi before fielding questions from the audience.  A few weeks ago, Clinton denounced the current political climate and lack bipartisan compromise. This proves that it is possible for Democrats and Republicans to have a serious conversation.
