President Obama Campaigns for Hillary in North Carolina

President Barack Obama campaigned for Hillary Clinton at two events in North Carolina today. In Fayetteville, Obama spoke about the importance of the election and urged everyone to focus on electing Clinton president. During the event, the president was interrupted by a man with a sign for Donald Trump. The crowd began to chant and boo him, but Obama hushed the crowd and said, “I told you to be focused, and you’re not focused right now. Listen to what I’m saying. Hold up, hold up, hold up, hold up, hold up. Everybody sit down and be quiet for a second.” He explained that it is that man’s right to support the candidate of his choice, but those of us who support Clinton need to get out and show our support. As Obama said at the Democratic National Convention in July, “Don’t boo. Vote.” Watch a video from the event below.

In Charlotte, Obama said that polls are showing that the election will be close, but in order for victory to be guaranteed, everyone needs to vote. Obama did outline a number of Clinton’s platform points including her plans to raise minimum wage, make college more affordable, and invest in clean energy. He also spoke about her dedication to creating jobs and building on the progress of the job market over the last several years. But he warned that electing Trump would end it all. “Everything we fought for, all of that goes out the window if we don’t win this election,” he said. A video from the Charlotte event is below.

Bill Clinton, Anne Holton Campaign for Hillary

On Wednesday, Bill Clinton campaigned on behalf of Hillary Clinton in Iowa. His first stop was in Indianola where he spoke about a number of Hillary’s platform points before challenging Donald Trump’s vision of America. Bill criticized the Trump campaign for its “venom and poison and nastiness,” and he also went after the campaign’s slogan “make America great again.” Bill said he did not like what that implied saying, “That’s an economic and a social message. It is (a message that says), ‘We’ve become too diverse and I’ll move you back up the social totem pole and give you the economy you had 50 years ago.’” Following the event, Bill traveled to his next stop, but made a surprise stop for coffee in Ames. Bill’s final event of the day was an organizing event in Waterloo. Speaking for nearly an hour, he spoke about a number of Hillary’s platform points saying that while there has been progress, some people are not seeing it. But Bill said that he does not buy into Trump’s vision of America. “I have heard now for a year and a half how terrible America is, how we’re going to hell in a handbasket, how we’re being by overrun by people from somewhere else, and it’s us against them. So, here we are in Waterloo, you’ve got an African-American mayor. I met in the line people associated with every religion, from at least five different European countries … and at least two Muslims. That’s America,” he said. Bill called for an inclusive country saying that our diverse population is our country’s biggest asset. A video from the event is below.

Anne Holton, meanwhile, spoke at events in Manchester and Salem, New Hampshire. During each event, Holton focused on Hillary’s platform plans to expand education for the youngest Americans as well as those who are going to college. Holton, the former Secretary of Education for Virginia, has been holding roundtable events for the campaign since her husband, Tim Kaine, was announced as Hillary’s running mate. Bill Clinton and Senator Bernie Sanders Campaign for Hillary

On Saturday, Bill Clinton campaigned for Hillary Clinton in Wisconsin at an event in Greenfield. Speaking at a local union hall, Bill spoke about a number of Hillary’s key platform points including her plans to raise the minimum wage, lower the cost of higher education, and build the middle class. He framed Hillary as the candidate that will help those who have been “left out and left behind.” He spoke about the importance of continuing the progress made over the last few years and said Hillary is the only candidate who will continue to the accomplishments of the current administration. Senator Bernie Sanders, meanwhile, remained on the campaign trail attending two events in Pennsylvania. Sanders’ first event was in Scranton where he spoke to a group of supporters at Scranton High School. During his speech, he said that Hillary will fight for equal pay for women, the expansion of health care, laws that ensure the “billionaire class” pays its fair share of taxes, and a reduction in the cost of higher education. Sanders also referred to Hillary’s opponent, Donald Trump, saying, “We cannot elect a president of the United States whose cornerstone of his campaign is bigotry and dividing us up. We have struggled for too many years, too many people have stood up and fought and some have died… we are not going back to those days.” A video of Sanders’ speech is below.

In Philadelphia, Sanders spoke about the same platform points during his speech, but he also underscored the importance of electing Hillary over Trump. This is especially true following the release of an audio recording that captured Trump using crude and derogatory language to describe women. Sanders went after Trump saying, “I think you’ve got a spoiled brat. I think you’ve got a person who grew up very very wealthy who thinks that he is entitled to do anything that he wants.” He said that Trump’s comments were inexcusable, and he needs “to take responsibility for his own actions.” A video from the Philadelphia rally is below.

Meanwhile, in Raleigh, North Carolina, a fundraiser was held on behalf of Hillary for America at the home of Dr. Ken and Tijuana Crosby. The event featured a conversation with the Little Rock 9: Ernest Green, Carlotta Walls LaNier, and Terrence Roberts.

Kaine Rallies Supporters in Miami

On Sunday, Hillary Clinton’s running mate Tim Kaine spoke at a campaign rally in Miami, Florida. During his speech at Miami-Dade College, Kaine stressed the importance of voting and spoke about a number of Clinton’s platform points. He previewed tomorrow night’s debate saying that it will be interesting to see how Donald Trump reacts when he asked tough questions about his tax returns, the Trump Foundation, and Trump University. “When the lights are bright like they are now she brings the A-plus game. She’ll be very, very good tomorrow. Donald Trump’s a performer and an entertainer, I’m not taking that away from him. But he can’t get away with the 15-second thing and then walking away. … No, it’s 90 minutes, mano y mano,” he said. A video from the event will be added when/if available.

The cast of the hit show “The West Wing,” actors Richard Schiff, Allison Janney, Bradley Whitford, Dulé Hill, Joshua Malina, and Mary McCormack, continued to campaign for Clinton today with stops in Dayton and Columbus. At each of the events, the actors took turns speaking about the importance of the 2016 election and ensuring that everyone is registered to vote before Ohio’s registration deadline on October 11. Janney, a native of Dayton, said of Clinton, “I don’t think there’s in the history of presidential candidates been someone with the depth and breadth of her experience. She is ready to do this job. We have to get it done. As Ohio goes, so goes the nation.” A video from today’s events will be added when/if available.

Meanwhile, in New York City, comedians Amy Poehler and Ana Gasteyer hosted a stand-up event and fundraiser for Hillary for America. The event, titled “Laugh your Pantsuit off” was held at The Hammerstein Ballroom. Besides Poehler and Gasteyer, other performers included Jane Curtin, Rachel Dratch, Aparna Nancherla, Jessica Williams, Phoebe Robinson, Kate Berlant, Cameron Esposito, Rhea Butler, Amber Ruffin, Jenny Hagel, Michael Ian Black, and Aziz Ansari.

Mothers of the Movement Campaigns for Clinton in North Carolina

The members of the Mothers of the Movement group spent Monday and Tuesday of this week campaigning on behalf of Hillary Clinton across North Carolina. The group of three mothers, united by the loss of a child due to gun violence, held a series of roundtable discussions and community events in Fayetteville, Durham, Greensboro, and Charlotte. At each event, the group told their stories and discussed a number of points outlined by Clinton including her plans for criminal justice reform and her proposal to reduce gun violence.

The mothers taking part in each event were Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner; Geneva Reed-Veal, the mother of Sandra Bland; and Maria Hamilton, the mother of Dontre Hamilton. Videos from the events will be posted when/if available.

Also on Tuesday, two fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America in Denver, Colorado. Each of the events featured a conversation with Maya Harris, HFA Senior Policy Advisor.
