Hillary Clinton Returns to Wisconsin Ahead of Tuesday’s Primary

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton returned to Wisconsin where she held a Get Out the Vote event at the Lismore Hotel in Eau Claire. During her speech, Clinton spoke about a number of her platform points including jobs, higher education, and health care, but she tailored the points to specific Wisconsin issues. She criticized Republican governor and former presidential candidate Scott Walker for undoing years of progress in the state saying, But there was something else I learned as I got older, how Wisconsin was such a pioneer, a pioneer in making progress on behalf of working people, a pioneer in an idea … Wisconsin understood before most of rest of country did that economy and higher education were linked. I admire that. (I’m) disheartened to see the dismantling of so many pieces of what made Wisconsin not just a great state to live in and a great state to work in, but an example for so many others.” A video from today’s event is below.

In the evening, both Democratic presidential candidates, Clinton and Bernie Sanders, spoke at the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s 2016 Founders Day gala in Milwaukee. During Clinton’s speech, she not only focused on her presidential run, but the importance of getting Democrats elected at the local level in Wisconsin. Again, she called out Governor Walker for a number of his policies and criticized the appointment of Rebecca Bradley to the state Supreme Court. Bradley has been criticized for her stance on a number of issues and Clinton said, “There is no place on any Supreme Court or any court in this country, no place at all for Rebecca Bradley’s decades-long track record of dangerous rhetoric against women, survivors of sexual assault and the LGBT community.” A full video from the event is available on C-SPAN.

Also appearing in Wisconsin on behalf of Hillary for America was Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards. She spoke with supporters on the campus of University of Wisconsin-Madison. Meanwhile, a fundraiser hosted by Susannah Gray and Michael John Williams was held in Washington, Connecticut. The fundraiser featured an appearance by Foreign Policy Advisor Daniel Kurtz-Phelan. A second fundraiser was held in Boston, Massachusetts. The fundraiser featured an appearance by Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan.

Clinton Rallies Iowa Crowds

Hillary Clinton was in Iowa for the second day in a row. As she travels the state encouraging support in the February 1 caucus, Clinton began her day at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids where she was introduced by Senator Cory Booker. Booker gave a passionate speech before introducing Clinton to the congregation where she spoke about the difficult decision of becoming Secretary of State and her pledge to continue fighting for civil rights. She spoke about building upon the progress of President Barack Obama’s administration. A video from this morning is below.

The second event of the day was in Marion where she was once again introduced by Senator Booker. During her speech, she focused on her plans for health care and other aspects of her platform, but more importantly, she asked those in attendance to think about which of the candidates is best prepared to be president. She said, “Who has the experience? Who has the judgment? Who can actually deliver for the United States when it comes to making these hard choices?”

Clinton then went to North Liberty for a Get out the Caucus event. She was introduced by Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards before giving a speech during which she spoke about the importance of Planned Parenthood and preserving a women’s right to choose. She also spoke about a number of other key platform points including building upon the economy, improving the infrastructure, and expanding the middle class. She, again, focused on experience and resolve to get things done if elected to the White House. A video from the North Liberty event is below.

Clinton’s final event of the day took place in West Des Moines. During the event at Valley Southwoods Freshman High School, Clinton accepted the endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign. She vowed to protect and expand the rights of the LGBT community saying, “We all benefit when every one of our fellow human beings can live lives of purpose and meaning without being demeaned, without being discriminated against. This is fight is for all Americans.” She then went on to speak about several of her key platform topics, and addressed criticism raised by rival Bernie Sanders about her Wall Street speaking fees. She said, “I have a record and a commitment. I believe strongly that we need to make sure Wall Street never wrecks Main Street again.” A video from the event is below.

Democrats and Celebrities in Iowa to Support Hillary Clinton

 

As the Iowa Caucuses near, Hillary Clinton and Hillary for America are hitting Iowa hard with high profile Democrats and celebrities. This weekend, a number of high profile supporters will be meeting with volunteers and supporters alike. Those in Iowa this weekend include New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, actor Tony Goldwyn, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and actress Jamie Lee Curtis. We will not writing posts for all these events because many of them take place at Hillary for America offices across the state and are meant to rally the volunteers who are calling voters and knocking on doors in support of Hillary. The focus of this site remains highlighting the events attended by Hillary, Bill, and Chelsea. However, we will list as many events as possible on the Scheduled Events page. I apologize in advance, because as more and more events held by Clinton supporters take place, I am likely to leave some out.

Clinton Rallies in Florida

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton hosted a grassroots organizing event at the Meadow Woods Recreation Center in Orlando, Florida. During the event, Clinton rallied the crowd by touting her platform and plans as president. Her primary topics were her recently introduced infrastructure plan which would create tens of thousands of jobs across the country. She spoke about the infrastructure needs in Florida, specifically highway improvements in and around Orlando. Clinton also spoke about heath care, defending Planned Parenthood, and defeating ISIS. While in Florida, Clinton also attended a number of private fundraisers. The first was hosted at the home of Alex Sink in Thonotosassa. Sink is the former Chief Financial Officer for the state of Florida. Then, she attended a fundraising event in Windermere at the home of Bill Kitchen, the CEO of US Thrill Rides LLC. Finally, Clinton attended an event hosted by Sallyn Pajcic in Jacksonville. As with all private events, they were closed to the press.

Clinton Joins Quora

Yesterday, Hillary Clinton answered questions on the social site Quora. The site is a forum dedicated to “democratizing knowledge.” Clinton has has officially joined the site and took the opportunity to post answers to several questions. Topics she covered included making prescription drugs more affordable, the Affordable Care Act, and defending Planned Parenthood. Clinton’s Quora profile can be viewed by CLICKING HERE.

Clinton Performs Strongly at Second Debate

Tonight, Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O’Malley took the stage for the second debate of the Democratic primary. The debate took place at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and was moderated by CBS News and local Des Moines affiliates. The debate began with a moment of silence honoring those killed in yesterday’s terrorist attacks in Paris. Then, the candidates jumped in answering questions about foreign policy, particularly the handling of ISIS, and domestic policies. Overall, the candidates agreed with each other on many issues, but there were some contentious issues including Clinton’s support of the Iraq War, her campaign donations from Wall Street, and Sanders’ weakness with gun control.

The debate was largely civil and focused on the issues. Each of the candidates took turn attacking the Republicans’ plans and their controversial stance on several important issues including climate change, Planned Parenthood, and immigration. The two-hour debate ended with closing statements, in which Clinton wrapped up by saying, “I’ve heard a lot about me in this debate, and ultimately, I’m going to keep talking about you.”

Clinton Attends New Hampshire Rallies

Yesterday, after officially registering for the New Hampshire primary, Hillary Rodham Clinton attended three rallies in New Hampshire, including one in Windham. Each of the rallies were similar to others held in the past in that she spoke about key platform topics such as infrastructure, health care, equal pay, Planned Parenthood, and college affordability. She has called for making higher education at public colleges and universities virtually cost free to those who wish to attend. She said, “That will enable middle class working families, poor families to send their kids to a four-year public college or university without having to borrow anything for tuition.”

While in New Hampshire, Clinton was endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters. Clinton gave a brief speech following the endorsement in which she spoke about her plans to combat climate change and build a clean energy economy. Clinton said, “I believe we can have 500 million more solar panels installed by the end of my first term and enough renewable electricity to power every home in America within 10 years.”

Clinton on “Face the Nation”

This morning, Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared on the CBS morning show Face the Nation. Host John Dickerson asked her about a wide variety topics including her email, Benghazi, Planned Parenthood, her campaign, and a possible presidential run by Vice President Joe Biden. She also spoke about her Democratic rival Bernie Sanders. She has been criticized by many supporters by not addressing Sanders, especially as he has risen in the polls.

A topic Dickerson and Clinton spoke at length about was Syria and the refugee crisis. Clinton believes the United States should accept some of the refugees. She said, “You know, look, we’re facing the worst refugee crisis since the end of World War II and I think the United States has to do more and I would like to see us move from what is a good start with 10,000 to 65,000 and begin immediately to put into place the mechanisms for vetting the people we would take in, looking to really emphasis some of those who are most vulnerable.” A a full video of the interview is available below:

Clinton Interviewed Live on CNN

This afternoon, Hillary Rodham Clinton was interviewed live on CNN by Wolf Blitzer. During his show, The Situation Room, Clinton and Blitzer asked for Clinton’s reaction to last night’s Republican debate, Congress moving to defund Planned Parenthood, and the possibility that her private email server was hacked. Clips from the interview are included in this post.

Clinton Visits Ohio and Wisconsin

On Thursday, Hillary Rodham Clinton made two appearances at Women for Hillary organizational rallies. The first was in Columbus, Ohio where she talked about women’s issues and her pledge to defend Planned Parenthood. In a clear reference to presidential candidate Donald Trump, she told the crowd of 500 that she was looking forward to debating “one particular candidate who just seems to delight in insulting women every chance he gets.” A full video of the speech is below (we apologize for the quality, and it will be replaced when/if another video is made available).

Her second stop was in Wisconsin, her first visit to the state since launching her presidential campaign. The event was held at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she focused on labor issue, and in particular, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s stance against unions. Clinton attacked Walker, now a Republican presidential candidate, saying, “What happens when you’re a proud union member and you have a governor who wants to drive you out?” She pledged her support for labor unions across Wisconsin and the country.
