Hillary Clinton Campaigns in Pennsylvania

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton attended two organizing events in Pennsylvania ahead of their primary on April 26. Her first stop was in Philadelphia where she spoke at the AFL-CIO Convention. During her speech, she expressed her confidence that she would be the Democratic nominee for president and vowed to make labor and the economy a priority as president. She also criticized comments made by Republican front runner Donald Trump saying, “You’ve got other candidates talking about building walls and putting up barriers against each other, right? My campaign is about breaking down all the barriers holding working families back. My campaign is about building again those ladders of opportunity and empowerment so people can claim their own piece of the American dream.” A full video of her speech is below.

Clinton then spoke at an organizing event on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Clinton spoke to a crowd of about 2,000 people who crowded in the gymnasium and on the lawn outside to hear her speak, and she apologized for not speaking at a larger venue. During her speech, Clinton spoke about her plans to continue the progress of President Barack Obama’s administration by improving heath care, making higher education more affordable for those in school and those paying off school debt, and expanding clean energy. She criticized Republican policies and said that a real Democrat needed to continue the progressive movement. A full video of her speech is below.

Hillary Clinton in Iowa and Philadelphia on Wednesday

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton attended a Get out the Caucus event in Iowa before heading to Philadelphia. In Adel, Clinton spoke at the Adel Family Fun Center, a bowling alley whose owner, Bryce Smith, she met last year. She wanted to hold an event at the center because of what Smith has done for the community. Clinton then spoke about her plans for the economy, climate change, clean energy, and heath care. Clinton then went to Philadelphia where she met with African American ministers at Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church in Society Hill. She discussed women’s heath, equal pay, the economy, and criminal justice reform. She told them that, “I want to be your partner, not just your president.” Following the meeting, Clinton then attended a fundraiser in Philadelphia which included a performance by Jon Bon Jovi.

Clinton Talks Race in Missouri

Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke about race relations in the United States at an event held at the Christ the King United Church of Christ in Florissant, Missouri. She praised the actions of South Carolina leaders to remove the Confederate flag from the state capitol building, but admitted that there is more work to be done, and removing the flag is only a small step in addressing racial inequality.

Clinton’s comments come just days after white supremacist Dylann Roof killed nine men and women at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston. Her remarks were made a few miles from Ferguson, a city that has seen racial tensions since the 2014 shooting of an African American teen by local police. Similar events have taken place around the country sparking outrage and riots. Clinton admitted that work needs to be done saying, “We can’t hide from hard truths about race and justice, we have to name them, and own them, and change them.”

US Green Building Council Conference

Hillary Clinton spoke at the US Green Building Council Conference in Philadelphia. In her keynote address, she addressed how women can play a key role in sustainability in the future. Following her speech, Clinton took part in a Q&A where she spoke about Washington gridlock, climate change, and responded to a heckler in the crowd.
