Clinton Speaks at Event Honoring Senator Harry Reid

Hillary Clinton returned to Washington, DC to attend an event honoring retiring Nevada Senator Harry Reid. A number of people spoke at the event including Clinton. During her speech, Clinton spoke about Reid’s career in the Senate. She also spoke about the dangers of fake news following a shooting that took place following a fake news story. She said, “It’s now clear that so-called fake news can have real-world consequences. This isn’t about politics or partisanship. Lives are at risk, lives of ordinary people just trying to go about their days, to do their jobs, contribute to their communities.” Clinton was also present as Reid’s official portrait was unveiled. World Affairs Council International Speakers Series

Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke last night at the World Affairs Council International Speakers Series in Portland, Oregon. While she spoke on a wide variety of topics during her speech and a Q&A session that followed, Clinton continued to voice her concern with the extreme partisanship in American politics. She has been particualrly discouraged by the lack of comprise and urged voters, “Don’t vote for people who proudly tell you they won’t compromise.”

Marketo’s Marketing Nation Summit

Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke today at Marketo’s Marketing Nation Summit in San Francisco, California. She gave brief remarks, then began a Q&A period. During this session, she was asked whether she would run for president in 2016. As usual, she said that she was “thinking about it.” However, she went a little further to suggest a reason that she is hesitant: increasing partisanship. Clinton said, “I would be the first to say we’re having a political period of, frankly, dysfunction. I saw it from afar as secretary and it was disheartening and even embarrassing to see people arguing about letting us default on our debt.”

Women in the World Summit

Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared at the 5th Annual Women in the World Summit in New York City Thursday evening. Clinton appeared on stage with Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund , and spoke about a wide variety of topics including partisanship, the media, Russia, and the portrayal of women. Clinton advised young women who were beginning their careers to be prepared to play “an outside and inside game,” She explained, “On the outside, you have to find ways to raise these issues that are truly rooted in sexism or in old-fashioned irrelevant expectations about women’s lives, not just to score a point but to change a mind.”

Clinton also made headlines when she met members of the Russian band Pussy Riot. Members of the band were imprisoned in Russia in 2012 for protesting and speaking out against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
