On Tuesday evening, the second night of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia made history by officially nominating Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party’s candidate for president. Clinton becomes the first female candidate to receive the nomination of a major political party. Clinton made a brief appearance via satellite from New York and thanked everyone for their support. She will officially accept the party’s nomination during her speech on Thursday.

In additional to the historic moment, the evening also featured another marquee night of speeches. Those taking the stage included Former Senator Tom Harkin, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, Senator Chuck Schumer, the principal and students from Eagle Academy, Former Attorney General Eric Holder, Senator Barbara Boxer, Representative Joseph Crowley, Mothers of the Moment, former Governor of Vermont Howard Dean, and actress Meryl Streep. The most powerful speech of the evening was delivered by President Bill Clinton. He focused on he and Hillary’s relationship and personal life. He called Hillary “the best darn change-maker” that he has ever seen and said that she will fight for everyone and does not back down from a fight. A selection of videos from the event, including Bill’s, is below.

The DNC is also featuring a series of videos highlighting Clinton’s career and personal life. Included in those videos Tuesday was one covering her time as Secretary of State and one about how she worked with the Eagle Academy. A third video was about the career of Bill Clinton. The videos are below.

Clinton Campaign Releases “Confessions of a Republican” Ad

On Monday, Hillary Clinton and Hillary for America released two new online ads. The first is called “Confessions of a Republican” and is a throwback to a similar ad ran by President Lyndon Johnson in 1964. The same Republican, Bill Bogert, speaks about the 2016 election and draws comparisons between Donald Trump and Barry Goldwater. The second video is titled “Dear Donald Trump” and sends a message that we, as Americans, cannot stand for Trump’s divisive policies. Both videos are included in this post.

At an event held on the campus University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Hillary Clinton outlined her plan to prevent jihadist recruitment and radicalization. Her plan consists of five parts:

  1. Stop ISIS recruitment in the United States, especially online
  2. Prevent would-be jihadists from getting training overseas, and prevent foreign terrorists from coming to the United States
  3. Discover and disrupt terror plots before they can be carried out
  4. Support law enforcement officers
  5. Empower Muslim-American communities to fight radicalization

Clinton also called for a measure that would prevent people on the no-fly list from buying a gun. She said, “They’ll [Republicans] say that guns are a totally separate issue – nothing to do with terrorism. I have news for them. Terrorists use guns to kill Americans, and I think we should make it a lot harder for them to ever do that again.” Today’s proposals are in addition to her plans to defeat ISIS, which she laid out last month. A full video from Clinton’s speech is below and a transcript is available on The Briefing.

Tomorrow, Clinton will be joined by Warren Buffett in Omaha, Nebraska to discuss tax reform. For all the latest, follow our Scheduled Events page and follow Clinton on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Tonight, the State Department released another batch of emails from Hillary Rodham Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State. The department reports that this batch contains roughly 7,000 pages of emails and that what they have released so far constitutes about 25% of emails that Clinton turned over. To date, 188 of the emails have been marked as classified, but a State Department spokesman said that the emails were not marked as classified at the time they were sent or received.

Clinton has said on several occasions that she wants the emails available to the public in the interest of transparency. News organizations release quotes from a few of her emails, but many average Americans have asked how they can access the emails. Since the release of the emails is part of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), all the emails are being posted to the State Department’s FOIA website. To access the emails that have been released so far, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to http://foia.state.gov/Search
  2. Type “Hillary Clinton” in the Search Terms field
  3. You will get results with a mix of emails and other documents
  4. Click on the arrow next to the “Posted Date” column header and select “Sort Descending” so that the recently released documents show first
  5. Click the title of the document in the “Subject” field to open a PDF copy

As of this posting, the search yields 4,172 emails and documents, and this number is going to continue to grow. The State Department will release batches of Clinton’s emails at the end of each month through the end of 2015.
