Hillary Clinton Hosts Three Iowa Events

On Monday, Hillary Clinton returned to Iowa where she hosted three events. The first was in Davenport where she set the tone for the day with a plea for voters to turn out and support her in Iowa’s caucus on February 1. She vowed to protect, and improve the Affordable Care Act and rework the economy so that it helps everyone and not just those at the top. She also spoke about other points from her platform including voting rights, gay rights, and women’s rights. A video from her event in Davenport is below.

Clinton then traveled to Cedar Rapids where hosted a town hall event. She gave a brief speech before taking questions from the crowd. One of the questions was in regard to Republican rival Donald Trump and his recent comments about her and President Barack Obama being responsible for the creation of ISIS. She responded by saying, “I’ve adopted a new year’s resolution. I’m going to let him live in his alternative reality and I’m not going to respond.”

Clinton wrapped up the first day of her trip to Iowa in Des Moines. The event was billed as a “Get Out the Caucus” rally. Her speech was similar to one she gave earlier in the day in Davenport where she stressed the importance of voters to turn out and vote for her at the February 1 caucus. Clinton Joins Quora

Yesterday, Hillary Clinton answered questions on the social site Quora. The site is a forum dedicated to “democratizing knowledge.” Clinton has has officially joined the site and took the opportunity to post answers to several questions. Topics she covered included making prescription drugs more affordable, the Affordable Care Act, and defending Planned Parenthood. Clinton’s Quora profile can be viewed by CLICKING HERE.

Clinton Campaigns in Dallas

Today, Hillary Rodham Clinton attended a grassroots organizing event at Mountain View College in Dallas, Texas. Speaking to an energetic crowd for about half an hour, Clinton spoke about her platform and plans if elected president. She began by addressing the recent terrorist attacks in Paris saying how important the president’s role is as commander-in-chief. Clinton also addressed the concern over the United States allowing Syrian refugees to flee to the United States. She said, “Of course we have to have a lot of vigilance and we have to vet people. But we can’t act as though we’re shutting the doors to people in need without undermining who we are as Americans.”

She also took the opportunity to attack Bernie Sanders’ single payer health care system while, at the same time, criticizing Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott for not expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. She said, “I don’t know about you, but I’d be a little concerned about turning it over to Greg Abbott. He won’t even expand Medicaid to help working people.” Clinton has criticized Sanders’ plan because it would lead to a tax increase for working and middle-class families. Before attending the event, Clinton attended a private fundraiser at the Dallas area hosted by Regina Montoya and Paul Coggins. Montoya is the senior vice-president of Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, and Coggins is the former United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas.

Clinton Unveils Prescription Drug Plan in Iowa

On Tuesday, Hillary Rodham Clinton continued addressing heath care issues by announcing her plan to curb the rising costs of prescription drugs. Speaking at Moulton Elementary School in Des Moines, Iowa, Clinton said that, “We’re going to add on to the good work that was done by the Affordable Care Act.” The plan she outlined would require pharmaceutical companies to reinvest profits into research, allow for the import of drugs from other countries, expand opportunities for generic medications, allow Medicare to negotiate for lower drug costs, and cap the out-of-pocket expense for everyday Americans with chronic health issues.

Clinton made it clear that she would tougher on the companies, especially since many of them receive tax payer funded grants from the government to supplement the funding of their research. Then, they charge an exorbitant amount for the drug. She said, “That is not the way the market is supposed to work. That is bad actors making a fortune off of people’s misfortune. Pharmaceutical companies can charge astronomical fees, far beyond anything it would take to recoup their investment and far beyond.” Read a full fact sheet of Clinton’s plan from The Briefing.

Clinton also made headlines during the event when she declared that she is against the building of the Keystone XL Pipeline. She said, “I think it is imperative that we look at the Keystone XL pipeline as what I believe it is: A distraction from the important work we have to do to combat climate change, and, unfortunately from my perspective, one that interferes with our ability to move forward and deal with other issues. Therefore, I oppose it. I oppose it because I don’t think it’s in the best interest of what we need to do to combat climate change.” The video below is not complete and will be updated when/if a full is available.

Clinton Begins Health Care Discussion in Louisiana and Arkansas

Hillary Rodham Clinton began the day by making a speech at the Louisiana Leadership Institute in which she vowed to support the Affordable Care Act and announced that she is preparing to address some of its shortcomings. She was critical of Republicans for trying to repeal the law, and she said it is too important of a law to abandon. Clinton said, “I’m not going to let them tear up that law, kick 16 million people off their health coverage and force the country to start the health care debate all over again. Not on my watch. I want to build on the progress we’ve made.” The level of uninsured Americans is at it lowest rate in nearly fifty years. Following the event, Clinton attended a private fundraiser in Baton Rouge at the home of businessman Jim Bernhard and his wife, Dana.

In Little Rock, Arkansas, Clinton made a speech at a grassroots event on the campus of Philander Smith College. In her speech, she focused on her plans to give every American a “fair shot.” The focus of her speech was on heath care, raising the minimum wage, more affordable education, and a reformed tax system. Arkansas is home to Clinton as she lived there for a number of years, practiced law there, and was the state’s First Lady. She thanked the people of Arkansas for their continued support and recalled that the state “holds so many wonderful memories for me and my family.” A video from her speech in Little Rock is below.

Clinton Makes Third Trip to Iowa

Since announcing her presidential campaign in April, Hillary Rodham Clinton has made two stops in Iowa. Today, she was in Iowa again, visiting Iowa City where she addressed a large crowd of supporters. In her speech, Clinton hit on a number of topics including women’s access to health care, the environment, gun control, and the recent Supreme Court decisions upholding the Affordable Care Act and legalizing same-sex marriage. As Iowa City is the home of Iowa State University, Clinton also spoke about the rising cost of college tuition and called for making college more affordable. After her speech, she took questions from reporters on topics ranging from the Greek debt crisis and her fellow Democratic competitor, Bernie Sanders.

Following her stop in Iowa City, Clinton headed for Ottumwa where she met with supporters at a grassroots organizing event. She then took questions from the crowd. Hillary for America has been very active in Iowa since April, and the campaign has started organizing larger events for Clinton as she continues to travel across the country.

Clinton talks Health Care in New Hampshire

On Friday, Clinton met with the citizens of Hanover, New Hampshire. She delivered a speech to an estimated crowd of 850 at The Bema. Clinton focused her attacks on Republicans and their reaction to the recent Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act. Clinton said the Republican candidates would repeal the act after taking office. Clinton also spoke about the need for new gun control laws and the potential nuclear deal with Iran. She also confronted recent criticism by defending her record as a liberal. She said, “I will fight hard against what I see as the injustice and unfairness in our society. I take a back seat to no one when you look at my record of standing up and fighting for progressive values.”

Clinton gives Speech at Jefferson-Jackson Event

Hillary Rodham Clinton was a featured speaker at the Jefferson-Jackson Event held by the Virginia Democratic Party at the Patriot Center on the campus of George Mason University. After being introduced by Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, Clinton praised the recent Supreme Court decision which upheld the Affordable Care Act. The court also ruled in favor of marriage equality, which is a major victory for the LGBT community. Clinton celebrated the decisions and also criticized Republicans for being “the party of the past, not the future.” Republicans have been vocal in their criticism of both decisions.

Clinton Goes to Iowa – Day 2

On her second day in Iowa, Hillary Rodham Clinton continued to meet with potential voters and took part in a roundtable with small business owners from across central Iowa. The event, which took place at Capital City Fruit Company in Norwalk, focused on America’s reliance on small businesses, and the difficulty many small business owners face to start their business and to keep their doors open. Clinton said, “We need to be, we have to be, No. 1 again. Slowly over time it’s become more difficult — more expensive, more red tape, unnecessary regulations that have really put a damper.”

During the roundtable, one of the business owners referred to increasing costs in health care and Clinton spoke about health care and the Affordable Care Act. She acknowledged that was a problem, and said that she was interested in updating aspects of the law. This isn’t new for Clinton, however. In several speeches before announcing her candidacy, Clinton hinted that was open to changes to the ACA.

Other business owners brought up the difficulty of hiring immigrants and having to turn down able works because of the their immigrant status. Because immigration reform is currently stalled in Congress, businesses are stuck in the middle. Clinton blamed the lack of comprehensive immigration reform on political ideologies. She went on to say, “We are really missing out on economic opportunities because we haven’t been able to agree on comprehensive immigration reform.”

The event was a listening session where she encouraged the small business owners to talk openly. Clinton shied away from answering questions about her platform and plan for small businesses saying that she was still in the building phase and wanted to hear what people have to say before her platform is complete.

Today wrapped up Clinton’s visit to Iowa, where she also visited Des Moines and Marshalltown, but she promised that she would be back soon. She is expected to head to New Hampshire next where she will likely hold similar listening sessions with different groups of voters.

AdvaMed 2014 Conference

Hillary Rodham Clinton was the keynote speaker at the AdvaMed 2014 Conference luncheon in Chicago. Speaking the to the group of medical professionals, Clinton answered a number of questions related to Obamacare (aka: The Affordable Care Act). The group’s chief concern is the medical device tax enforced by the healthcare law. Clinton did not seem supportive of the tax saying, “I don’t know what the right answer about the tax is, but I think we could, taking a look at everything and not standing there with out arms folding staring at each other across the partisan divide, begin to sort it out.” This is no the first time Clinton has question parts of the law and she has hinted that she is open to possible updates the law in the future.
