Hillary Clinton Endorsed by More Local Newspapers

This weekend, Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of four major prominent newspapers from across the country. The first was Nebraska’s Omaha World-Herald, the first time the paper has endorsed a Democrat since President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932. The paper’s editorial board says that while Clinton has political faults, she is by far more qualified than Republican Donald Trump. The board concludes, “Clinton’s legislative experience and decades of political involvement — as first lady of Arkansas, first lady of the United States, U.S. senator from New York, secretary of state and two-time presidential candidate — make her the better prepared of the two major candidates for the office of president of the United States.” Read the full endorsement HERE.

The Wisconsin State Journal also published their endorsement of Clinton concluding that the country cannot risk a Trump presidency. The paper’s board said, “Trump’s scandal-a-day campaign has shown he would distract, isolate and embarrass our nation. The world doesn’t need a United States in retreat, nor a stark reset of America’s politics and international posture. The world needs a U.S. president who can actually lead. Clinton is that leader, and the world needs America to get this right.” Read the full article HERE.

Clinton has also earned the endorsement of the New Orleans newspaper The Times-Picayune. The paper’s editorial board says that Clinton is the better choice for New Orleans and Louisiana saying, “As for which candidate is better for Louisiana, there is no contest. Mrs. Clinton is committed to investments in infrastructure, including ports, that would benefit our state. She also wants to offer preschool to every 4-year-old, something that fits Louisiana’s goal of expanding and improving the quality of early childhood education. But for New Orleanians, perhaps the most compelling contrast between Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton is his intolerance and her inclusiveness. New Orleans has diversity in its DNA. A president who routinely degrades African-Americans, Hispanics, Muslims and women could not, and would not, represent us.” Click HERE to read the full endorsement.

In Iowa, The Des Moines Register’s editorial board asked what message Americas wanted to send to a ever interested global community. Do we want to pick the candidate that has run a divisive campaign or one that still believes in the promise of America? The board believes it is important that the American citizens elect a leader that represents our values, and for them that is Clinton. They conclude, “On Election Day, all of us share the privilege and responsibility of protecting the principles on which this country was founded and for which so many others have died: justice, liberty, equality and opportunity for all. In this particular election, only one of the two major-party candidates stands prepared to honor America and uphold its highest ideals. Bill Clinton Campaigns for Hillary in Kentucky

While voters headed to the polls in Indiana, Bill Clinton campaigned for Hillary Clinton in Kentucky, a state that holds its primary on May 17. Clinton began by touring the Morehead State’s Space Science Center and giving a speech to supporters. He spoke about the economy, the future of education, and the continued expansion of health care coverage. He praised the university for its work in the science and space sector saying, “The No. 1 export industry in the Commonwealth of Kentucky is not bourbon, it’s not coal, or is it cars. The No. 1 export industry in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, an $8 billion industry, is the aeronautics and aerospace industry.”

Clinton then traveled to Lexington where he spoke to a group of supporters on the campus of the University of Kentucky. During his speech, Clinton spoke about health care and how Kentucky was one of the best states in the country with regard to the Affordable Care Act. The exchanges were well maintained and Medicaid coverage was helping those who were underinsured. But he said that “you elected a Republican governor” who “wrecked” it. He was referring to Governor Matt Bevin who has dismantled the Affordable Care Act framework in the state. Clinton also spoke about an number of Hillary’s platform points including the economy and bringing down the cost of higher education.

The final event of the day was in Louisville where he gave a stump speech to supporters at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage. Clinton spoke about Hillary’s plans for the future and her long career of fighting for the middle class. While in Louisville, he also made a number of unscheduled stops downtown where he wondered into shops and visited with the owners and clients. Two fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America. The first, was in New Orleans, Louisiana at the home of Jason Waguespack. Attending the event was former Congressman Barney Frank. The second event was a conversation about health care with Senior Policy Advisor Ann O’Leary. The event was hosted by Michael Bronfein in Baltimore, Maryland.

Bill Clinton Campaigns for Hillary in MS, LA, and NE

Leading up to this weekend’s and next Tuesday’s primary races, Bill Clinton covered three states in two days campaigning for Hillary Clinton. On Thursday, Clinton spoke to supporters at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. During his remarks, he spoke about his wife’s experience and her plans to move the country forward. He said, “I think if the people of Mississippi stick with us, we’ll have some things we can really talk about.” Mississippi’s primary is on Tuesday.

On Thursday evening, Clinton spoke to a crowd in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he focused on Hillary’s experience and her plans for future. He focused on a number of platform topics including her plans for the economy, jobs, heath care, and addressing systemic racism. He asked supporters to get out and support her in Saturday’s Democratic primary race against Bernie Sanders. A video from the event is below.

On Friday, Clinton remained in Louisiana for an event in New Orleans. Speaking at the Ashe Power House Theater, Clinton spoke about Hillary as a change maker and someone who wants to keep America great. While he never mentioned Republican Donald Trump by name, Clinton took some shots at the front-runner. He also spoke about a number of Hillary’s key platform points, including reducing the cost of higher education, repairing infrastructure, fight the heroin epidemic, and pushing for equal pay for women.

Clinton then traveled to Nebraska where he spoke at the The Waiting Room nightclub in Omaha. During the event, he asked voters to support Hillary in this Saturday’s caucus. He also focused on a number of platform points, including higher education and student debt. He said, “What does she want to do about that? Make college tuition free in every public university in the country, in every historically black university and college in the country and every university that serves first and second generation Americans and other universities that are small with relatively modest tuition and high rates of return.”

Clinton’s final event of the day was a Get Out the Caucus event in Lincoln. At the Lincoln Station Great Hall, Mayor Chris Beutler endorsed Hillary before introducing Clinton. During his speech, Clinton spoke about the wage barriers that exist for too many American families and that Hillary has plans to help expand the middle class. He also spoke about her plans to improve the infrastructure and expand broadband internet. Clinton covered Hillary’s plans to expand background checks before buying a gun saying that the majority of gun owners support background checks. At the end of the speech, he asked voters to support Hillary in Saturday’s caucus saying, “If you want us to rise together…you should vote for the best change maker…vote for Hillary tomorrow.”

In Tampa, Florida tonight, Hillary For America hosted a town hall event on the American military and what can be done help service members and their families during and after their service. Attending the event was retired Brigadier General John Douglass, retired Rear Admiral Michael Smith (ret), Major General Rick Olson, and Jon Murray, National Director of Veterans and Military Families Outreach at Hillary for America.

Clintons Attend Fundraisers in Four States

On Tuesday, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton hit the fundraising trail where they attended separate events in four different state. Hillary began with an event home of Amy and Philip Blumenthal in Charlotte, North Carolina. She then attended a fundraiser at the New Orleans home of Frances and Calvin Fayard. She wrapped up the day attending a fundraiser at the Children’s Museum of Houston in Texas.

Chelsea, meanwhile, was in New York City for two events. The first was an afternoon tea hosted by Susan York. Chelsea and Anna Wintour, editor of American Vogue, both attended the event. Chelsea’s second event was a fundraising reception. As with all private fundraisers, the events were closed to the press.

National Automobile Dealers Association Convention

Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke at the National Automobile Dealers Association Convention in New Orleans for her first speech of 2014. During the event, Clinton discussed her career, her regrets as Secretary of State, specifically the attack on the American Embassy in Benghazi, and she even spoke about cars. Clinton talked about some of the cars that her and husband Bill Clinton have owned, and she shocked everyone when she revealed that she has not driven a car since 1996.
