Hillary Clinton Presents Manufacturing Plan in Syracuse

On Friday, Hillary Clinton held two public events in Syracuse, New York. The first was a round table discussion during which she unveiled her plans to boost manufacturing. The plan calls for an investment of $10 billion and is called “Make it in America.” The basic components of the plan include:

  • The establishment of “Make it in America Partnerships” that make America the first choice for manufacturing production by harnessing regional strengths.
  • Prevent foreign countries like China from abusing global trade rules, and reject trade agreements that do not meet high standards.
  • Revitalize the hardest-hit manufacturing communities.
  • Crack down on companies shipping jobs and earnings overseas – and create incentives for companies to bring back jobs to the U.S.
  • Invest in America’s manufacturing workforce to ensure that they will always be the best in the world.

Clinton then held a public rally in Syracuse’s Regional Market where she covered a number of topics including her pledge to fight for equal pay for women, making higher education more affordable, and growing the economy of New York and and the country. She also touched on the topic she covered earlier in the day at the small business round table saying, “Upstate New York has a storied history of manufacturing. We now have a chance to recapture that.” While in Syracuse, Clinton also made stop at Varsity Pizza where she posed for pictures and signed basketballs. Clinton also attended two fundraisers today. The first was held before the rally in Syracuse where donors could meet Clinton. She then traveled to New Jersey for a fundraiser in Tenafly.

Clintons Return to the Campaign Trail

Following last night’s Democratic debate, Hillary, Bill, and Chelsea Clinton all returned to the campaign trail. Chelsea was in Providence, Rhode Island where she attended a fundraiser. Bill attended two fundraisers today. The first was in Cincinnati, Ohio and was hosted by Allan Berliant and Jennie Rosenthal Berliant, Eisha and Tim Armstrong, Mayor John Cranley, Richard Lawrence, Francie Pepper, Richard Rosenthal and Kitty Strauss. The second fundraiser was held at the home of Elizabeth Welch in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Also hosting a fundraiser today in Newark, New Jersey was Senator Cory Booker.

Meanwhile, Hillary began her day by attending a post-debate breakfast fundraiser in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with Senator Tammy Baldwin. She then traveled to South Carolina where she hosted a town hall event in Denmark. During her remarks, Hillary again painted Bernie Sanders’ platform as too narrow and explained how her experience allowed her to build a broader platform. Clinton also laid out a new proposal called the “Breaking Every Barrier Agenda” which would provide underserved communities with $125 billion for economic development. She explained that the program would largely be paid for by a tax on large financial institutions. She said, “Those that contributed to the Great Recession are going to contribute to bringing back the communities that were the hardest hit by the Great Recession.”

Hillary and Sanders shared the stage (separately) as they both spoke at the Minnesota DFL Humphrey-Mondale Dinner in St. Paul. During Clinton’s speech, she covered a number of her platform points and poked holes in Sanders’ platform, although, she never mentioned him by name. She said, “Once in a while, a day comes along when we make something big and extraordinary happen all at once. But in my experience, that’s not how we make change most of the time. To make change happen over and over again, you’ve got to keep working at it! You’ve got to keep fighting for it day after day after day. And if you get knocked down, you get right back up!” A video from the event is below.

Democrats Across the Country Campaign for Hillary

On Monday, while Hillary Clinton was in Iowa, a number of high profile Democrats and celebrities attended a number events in support of Hillary for America. Actress Jamie Lee Curtis has been visiting with voters and volunteers in Iowa for the last few days, holding events in Council Bluffs, Ames, and Newton. Curtis has been a long time support of Hillary and talked about her experience and readiness to lead.

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro attended two events yesterday on behalf of Hillary and Hillary for America. The first was a fundraiser hosted by Tony Buxton, Bonnie Porta, and Karen Harris in Portland, Maine. The second event was a gathering at the Puerto Vallarta Mexican Grill in Manchester, New Hampshire. Meanwhile in New Jersey, Senator Cory Booker and Victor Herlinsky hosted a fundraiser in Newark.

Bill and Chelsea were also on the campaign trail yesterday, attending events in California. Bill was scheduled to attend events in Hillsborough and San Francisco. Chelsea attended two fundraisers, with the first being hosted at the Newport Coast home of Michael and Sholeh Chegini. The second fundraiser was held at the Los Angeles office of Frank Gehry.

Democrats and Celebrities in Iowa to Support Hillary Clinton

As the Iowa Caucuses near, Hillary Clinton and Hillary for America are hitting Iowa hard with high profile Democrats and celebrities. This weekend, a number of high profile supporters will be meeting with volunteers and supporters alike. Those in Iowa this weekend include New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, actor Tony Goldwyn, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and actress Jamie Lee Curtis. You can also find out more information about all of Hillary for America’s events and find events near you at hillaryclinton.com/events.

We will not writing posts for all these events because many of them take place at Hillary for America offices across the state and are meant to rally the volunteers who are calling voters and knocking on doors in support of Hillary. The focus of this site remains highlighting the events attended by Hillary, Bill, and Chelsea. However, we will list as many events as possible on the Scheduled Events page. I apologize in advance, because as more and more events held by Clinton supporters take place, I am likely to leave some out.

Clinton Appears on Late Show with Stephen Colbert

During the interview, Clinton spoke about her campaign and her promise to help all Americas. Colbert asked Clinton about her testimony before the House Select Committee on Benghazi, her Republican rivals, and her TV watching habits. The most surprising moment came when Clinton was asked whether she would let the big banks fail if they had another crisis situation like in 2009. Clinton responded with a simple “yes.” She elaborated saying, “First of all, under Dodd-Frank, that is what will happen because we now have stress tests and I’m going to impose a risk fee on the big bank if they engage in risky behavior. But they have to know, their shareholders have to know that yes, they will fail. And if they’re too big to fail then under my plan and others that have been proposed, they may have to be broken up.” Clips from last night’s show are below.

Last night, Clinton also attended a private fundraiser in Morristown, New Jersey. The fundraiser was hosted by Philip and Barbara Sellinger. As with all private events, the fundraiser was closed to the press.

Clinton Fundraises in New Jersey

img_1847Hillary Rodham Clinton attended a private fundraiser at the Molly Pitcher Inn in Red Bank, New Jersey. The fundraiser was closed to the press, but it is reported that Senator Cory Booker attended along with a number of prominent Democratic Party leaders in New Jersey. Music at the event was provided by Jon Bon Jovi.

ap_clinton_lb_150319_16x9_992Hillary Rodham Clinton gave would could be her final speech for awhile as she is expected announce her presidential campaign in a few weeks. Speaking for the American Camp Association of New York and New Jersey, Clinton said that she thinks that America has a “fun deficit” and joked that she thinks there should be camps for adults. She recalled events from her past and spent some time talking about her future. She hinted that her future could include reaching across party lines to come to compromise. She criticized the current political environment saying, “If you don’t build relationships with people and all you do is show up to argue or show up to point fingers, you can’t get anything done.”
