Clinton Speaks about Role of Women in Peace Negotiations

On Friday, Hillary Clinton spoke at an event on the campus of Georgetown University. She spoke about the importance of women being in leadership in America and around the world. She stressed the importance of women taking part in peace negotiations and the peace process. Clinton said that when women are involved “peace negotiations [and] agreements are less likely to fail and more likely to last.” Clinton’s backed up her claim with data from United Nations Women. The speech was her second this week, and she took the opportunity to take a swipe at President Donald Trump saying, “Here I go again, talking about research, evidence, and facts.” Watch a video from the event below and read a transcript of Clinton’s speech HERE.

Hillary Clinton Statement on Appointment of António Guterres as UN Secretary General

Today, Hillary Clinton released the following statement on the official appointment of António Guterres as the next United Nations Secretary-General:

“I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to António Guterres on his appointment as the next Secretary-General of the United Nations. Throughout his career, Mr. Guterres has proven himself to be an advocate for human rights and a champion for the most vulnerable. As UN High Commissioner for Refugees, he provided help and hope to millions of men, women and children who have been forced to flee from their homes.  And he is a consensus-builder who can bring people together to advance common interests and address common challenges. I was heartened that Mr. Guterres indicated that gender equality will be a top priority when filling senior positions. I strongly support efforts that increase diversity in UN leadership. And if I’m elected President of the United States, I look forward to working with Mr. Guterres and all of our partners to help shape a more peaceful and prosperous future for every global citizen.”

Clinton Appears on ABC’s “This Week”

Hillary Clinton appeared on this morning’s episode of “This Week.” Host George Stephanopoulos spoke with Clinton on a variety of topics including her Republican rivals, but the primary topic of the conversation was ISIS. With President Barack Obama’s speech on terrorism scheduled for this evening, Clinton admitted that we are now winning the fight against ISIS. She called for more support from the Arab nations and the support of technology companies such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. ISIS uses Social Media to spread its message and recruit supports around the world, and she called on the companies to work with the governments of the world to prevent the spread of radicalization online.
