Clinton Returns to Campaign Trail Following Testimony

Following her 10+ hours of testimony before Congress yesterday, Hillary Rodham Clinton returned to the campaign trail today. She began by attending the Democratic National Committee’s Women’s Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. She addressed a number of topics and took a shot at her Democratic challenger Bernie Sanders on gun control. He has made comments about people “shouting” about gun control, and that shouting doesn’t get anything done. Clinton addressed his comments today by saying, “I am not shouting. It is just when women talk, some people think we are shouting.” Clinton was the final speaker this morning and spoke about about twenty minutes. A video of the speech is below.

Clinton then went to Virginia where she appeared with Governor Terry McAuliffe at a rally in Alexandria. McAuliffe introduced Clinton saying that she is a poised leader and that she will fight for Virginians and Americans. Clinton then took the stage and spoke about her record as a progressive, but a progressive who is open to ideas and willing to work with others. She then encouraged Virginia voters to turn out in state-wide election on November 3. The grass roots event was attended by a large crowd outside of Alexandria City Hall. She promised to fight for everyone as President saying, “Your fights are my fights and I won’t quit until all Americans have a chance to get ahead and stay ahead.” A video of the speech is below.

Clinton Interviewed on PoliticsNation

On Sunday’s episode of PoliticsNation on MSNBC, Hillary Rodham Clinton was interviewed by host Reverend Al Sharpton. During their conversation, Clinton and Sharpton discussed a number of topics including the differences between her and President Barack Obama, her supporters, her Republican rivals, police reform, gun control, President Bill Clinton’s crime bill, Syria, and the politicization of the Benghazi investigation in Congress. Clinton criticized recent comments by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy in which he said the investigation was successful for Republicans because it was hurting Clinton’s campaign. Clinton said, “When I hear a statement like that, which demonstrates unequivocally that this was always meant to be a partisan political exercise. I feel like it does a grave disservice and dishonors not just the memory of the four that we lost, but of everybody who has served our country.”

Clinton Appears on Meet the Press

On Sunday morning, Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press. In the interview by Chuck Todd, Clinton was asked about recent revelations and recently discovered emails on her private email server, and in response to the questions that have arisen, Clinton said, “I want these questions to be answered.” Todd and Clinton discussed a number of topics including her recent poll numbers, her platform, and her Republican opposition. The second part of the interview will air tomorrow on MSNBC’s Meet the Press Daily.

Clinton Appears on Al Sharpton’s Radio Show

Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared on Reverend Al Sharpton’s radio show “Keepin’ it Real”. She was interviewed by Sharpton and the conversation primarily focused on race and the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which the Supreme Court gutted in 2014. Clinton expressed her concern over those who have attacked the Voting Right Act saying that Congress needed to renew the act to protect voting rights for everyone.

Clinton and Sharpton went on to discuss race and justice pointing to recent police brutality against African-American suspects. But she also addressed prison population saying, “I know that this is a serious problem, but it falls disproportionately on the African American community.” Sharpton asked if Clinton was planning to watch this evening Republican debate on Fox News. She responded, “I don’t think I need to watch it to know that nearly everybody standing on that stage, in the first or the second debate, has either actively sought to limit the right to vote in their states or supported the efforts to limit the right to vote if the were not governors but were in the Congress.”
