Clinton Honors Oscar de la Renta at USPS Event

On Thursday, Hillary Clinton spoke at an event honoring fashion designer Oscar de la Renta. The United States Postal Service unveiled a new set of stamps honoring de la Renta and his work. Speaking at Grand Central Terminal, Clinton spoke about her friendship with de la Renta and his wife and praised his contribution to the world of fashion. She said, “Oscar de la Renta was an immigrant. And aren’t we proud and grateful that he was?” Others attending the event included Diane von Furstenberg, Valentino Garavani, Anna Wintour, and Michael Bloomberg. The stamp sheet features ten designs by de la Renta and one stamp with with a portrait of him. They will be available from the USPS as Forever stamps starting February 16. You can order sets HERE.

DNC Wrap-Up: Day 3

Wednesday night’s events at the Democratic National Convention included the acceptance speech of Senator Tim Kaine as the party’s vice presidential candidate. In his speech, Kaine thanked his family before “humbly” accepting the nomination. He spoke about Hillary Clinton’s experience and why the 2016 election is vital for the country. A video biography of Kaine and a video of his speech are below.

Speakers from the evening included New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Reverend Jesse Jackson, former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, California Governor Jerry Brown, Senator Chris Murphy, Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly, Former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, and Michael Bloomberg. The headline speeches from the event were from Vice President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama. Biden gave an energetic speech supporting Clinton while President Obama gave a stirring speech in which the overall message was America is better than Donald Trump. At the end of the speech, he was joined on stage by Clinton. A selection of the speeches are below and more videos from the Convention are available on YouTube.

The DNC released another set of videos highlighting Clinton’s long career, attacking Trump, and presenting an alternative to the Republican vision of America’s future.

Data 2X Announcement

Hillary Rodham Clinton, along with the Bloomberg Foundation, spoke on behalf of Data 2X, a effort run by the United Nations Foundation. The group’s goal is to fill in the gaps related to available data about women’s issues in the developing world. Data 2X was launched by Clinton when she was Secretary of State, but today’s announcement was adding the partnership of the Clinton Foundation and Bloomberg Foundation. At the event, Clinton said that data is important because it clearly demonstrates failures and progress. She also spoke about how she has been treated at times when discussing women’s issues with US and foreign officials. She said, “You could just see the wheels turning: ‘Oh right, I knew she was going to raise women and girls. I will just smile, it will pass, and then we will talk about really important things.’”
