Chelsea Clinton, Anne Holton Encourage Voter Registration

On Friday, Chelsea Clinton and Anne Holton held campaign events focused on voter registration. Chelsea began her day in Green Bay, Wisconsin where she spoke about the importance of registering to vote before the deadline. She also spoke about a number of Hillary Clinton’s proposals if elected president including her plans to raise the minimum wage, pass gun safety legislation, and raise taxes on the top earners while leaving middle class taxes where they are today. Chelsea urged voters to consider their children and the next generation of Americans saying, “Whoever we elect, will play a profound role in shaping the future that my children and the generation they grow up in.” She then took questions from those in attendance. Chelsea then traveled to Traverse City, Michigan where she spoke to a group of Hillary supporters and potential voters at Kirkbride Hall. Again, Chelsea held a townhall style event taking questions from the audience. She said, “I’m wanting to talk to anyone who wants to talk to me. I was so just touched that so many people came out today here, took time out of their busy Fridays to kind of listen to me make the case for my mom.” Some of the topics covered included the military and veterans, Hillary’s plans to combat climate change, and the rising cost of a college education. Holton traveled to Iowa where she spoke at events in Charles City and Mason City. She said that she is exited to be on the campaign trail while her husband, Tim Kaine, prepares for Tuesday’s vice presidential debate. Holton spoke to those in attendance about the importance of voting and encouraged voters to take advantage of Iowa’s early voting option. She also spoke about a number of issues, but her primary topic was education. As the former Secretary of Education for Virginia, that is her topic of expertise, and Hillary recognized her strength in that subject area. Hotlon said, “The key thing Hillary [Clinton] has asked me to do on the campaign trail is to listen to educators, teachers, students, parents and bring back ideas.” A video from today’s events will be posted when/if available.

In Brooklyn, New York, a fundraiser was held on behalf of Hillary for America. The event included a conversation with actress Scarlett Johansson and Scott M. Stringer, New York City Comptroller.

Bill Clinton Campaigns in Iowa

With just five days remaining before the Iowa caucuses, Bill Clinton was in Iowa campaigning for Hillary. During an event in Mason City, Bill spoke about Hillary’s experience and how she is the most experienced candidate in the race. He said that there are three questions on which a public figure should be judged: are people better off because of what they’ve done?; have they improved the outlook for future generations?; and have things come together because of their leadership? He said that for Hillary, the answer is “yes” on all three.

He also spoke about her plans for the economy and raising the minimum wage. He called Hillary a problem solver, and urged voters to caucus for her on Monday. He said, “You’ll never have another opportunity to vote for someone who has done so much for so many in and out of public office.” A video from yesterday’s event will be posted when/if available.

Chelsea Clinton was fundraising in New York City for Hillary on Wednesday. The first event was held at SoulCycle TriBeCa where a “Ride with Chelsea” event was held. Her second event was a LGBT reception that also featured Hillary for America Campaign Manager Robby Mook and tennis champion Billie Jean King.

Clinton Hosts Iowa Town Halls

On Wednesday afternoon, Hillary Clinton hosted two town hall events in Iowa. The first was in Iowa City, then she held a similar event in Mason City later in the afternoon. Both events featured a brief opening speech from Clinton in which she spoke about the economy, raising the minimum wage, defeating ISIS, supporting Muslim-Americans, and other aspects of her platform. She then answered questions from those in attendance. Between the two events, Clinton answered questions about her support for sexual assault victims, her taste in music, and how she would respond to one attendees’ Donald Trump supporting father. To that, Clinton replied, “I hope you can see I don’t have horns. And I really do hope that as this election goes on you will listen to your daughter.” A video from the Mason City event will be posted when/if available, and the video from the Iowa City town hall is below.

Today, Clinton was scheduled to attend a Hillary Victory Fund fundraiser in New York City with husband Bill Clinton and singer Sting. A second New York fundraiser was also scheduled and hosted by Drew Barrymore, Will Kopelman, and Randy Florke. As with private events, the fundraisers were closed to the press.

Today, Hillary Rodham Clinton began her second visit to Iowa since launching her presidential campaign. She continued to focus on small events and spent the afternoon with a group of about 60 Democratic activists from around the state. As president, Clinton vowed to fight more for the American family and workers saying, “We need to get back into the habit of actually rewarding workers with increases in their paychecks for the increases in productivity and profitability that they have helped achieve.”
