Today, a number of politicians and celebrities campaigned in support of Hillary Clinton while she prepares for Monday’s night’s debate with Republican Donald Trump. Chelsea Clinton began at an event at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in Pennsylvania. Chelsea spoke about her mother’s career saying, “I’m supporting her because she’s the most qualified person for the job.” Chelsea discussed a number of Hillary’s key platform points, including her plans to reduce the debt of students and ensure future generations of students can graduate from college debt-free.

Chelsea then traveled to Youngstown, Ohio where she was joined by actress Sally Field. At the event, Chelsea and Field spoke about why they are supporting Hillary and urged Ohioans to register to vote. Field said that she is a long time supporter of Hillary and will continue to work to ensure she is elected. Chelsea echoed that sentiment, and spoke about a number of Hillary’s proposals and how they differ from Trump’s. “Various analyst say that his tax plans would raise taxes on tens of millions of working class families, including millions of single mothers. I don’t think that’s a family value whether you’re standing here in Youngstown or anywhere across the country,” she said. A video from the Johnstown event is available on CSPAN.

In New Hampshire, Senator Elizabeth Warren spoke at a series of events across the state. She spoke at canvass events in Nashua and Manchester before speaking at an organizing event in Durham. At each of the events, Warren fired up supporters and volunteers by speaking about the importance of the election. Warren went after Trump calling him a “pathological liar” and attacked his hateful campaign. She said, “We’re here to say hate is not OK. We build a stronger America together. That’s what this is about.” In addition to Clinton, Warren also pledged her support for New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan who is seeking a seat in the US Senate. Videos from today’s event will be added when/if available.

Members from the cast of West Wing were also on the campaign trail today in Ohio. Actors Richard Schiff, Allison Janney, Bradley Whitford, Dulé Hill, Joshua Malina, and Mary McCormack attended events in Boardman, Garfield Heights, Sandusky, Toledo. At each of the events, the actors took turns speaking to supporters and volunteers urging them to support Hillary and to register to vote by Ohio’s October 11 deadline. The cast members will remain in Ohio on Sunday for events in Columbus and Dayton.

Hillary Clinton Statement on Actors’ Equity Association Endorsement

Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of the Actors’ Equity Association. In a statement, the group said this is the first time they have endorsed a presidential candidate, but they felt the need to speak out. Executive Director Mary McColl expressed the importance of unions and the reason for their endorsement of Clinton. “Our union has historically chosen to remain nonpartisan and above the fray. But at such a critical time in our country’s history, this union does not have that luxury if we hope to protect our members. We have to fight with everything we have for our survival.” Clinton responded to the endorsement with the following statement.

“I am honored to have earned the first-ever endorsement of the Actors’ Equity Association.

I have spent my life fighting to even the odds for those who have had the odds stacked against them. That means making it possible for every child to live up to his or her God-given potential, no matter where they come from, what they look like, or who they love. And, although this is an unusual thing for a candidate for President to say, it means working to create more love and kindness in our country.

The Actors’ Equity Association shares these core values. And I couldn’t be prouder to have them standing with me in this election. The stakes could not be higher.

From the beginning, Donald Trump has based his campaign on prejudice and paranoia. He has insulted immigrants and demeaned women. He has called for banning 1.5 million people from so much as entering this country because of their religion. He mocked and mimicked a reporter with a disability. He would appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn marriage equality, and when the time came to choose a running-mate, he selected a man who signed a law that would have allowed Indiana businesses to discriminate against LGBT people.

Donald Trump does not understand a basic truth about America: we are stronger together.

Americans don’t tear each other down—we lift each other up. We don’t build walls—we break down barriers. Together, we’ll fight to finally guarantee equal pay for women, protect workers’ rights to organize and bargain collectively, and build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top. We’ll pass the Equality Act and make it illegal to discriminate against LGBT people in employment and housing—and we won’t let up in the fight against HIV and AIDS until we reach the goal of an AIDS-free generation, which is finally in sight. We will face up to the reality of systemic racism and fix it—and we’ll fight back against those who are trying to deny Americans their fundamental right to vote. And above all, we will never forget that we are in this together, one nation, indivisible.

The future we want is within our reach—let’s build it together.”

Hillary Clinton Campaigns in Pittsburgh

On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton attended a rally in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During her speech, Clinton ripped into Republican Donald Trump for his speech yesterday in response to the deadly attack in Orlando, Florida. She criticized his divisive language and renewed proposal of banning all Muslims from entering the United States. She also spoke about the importance of regulating the sales of guns saying, “We need to lift up voices of moderation and tolerance. I believe we Americans are capable of both protecting our Second Amendment rights while making sure guns don’t fall into the wrong hands. The terrorist in Orlando was the definition of the wrong hands. And weapons of war have no place in our streets.” Clinton called for the country to come together and politicians to work together, across party lines, to ensure that an attack of this nature is not possible in the future. A video from her speech is below.

In Portland, Maine, a fundraiser was held on behalf of Hillary for America. Former Congressman Barney Frank and Mary Bonauto spoke at the event that was hosted at Coffey by Design.
