Senator Sanders Campaigns in Michigan, Chelsea in Minnesota

Senator Bernie Sanders campaigned on behalf of Hillary Clinton in Michigan today. His first event was held in Dearborn where he spoke to a crowd of supporters at the local UAW hall. During his speech, Sanders spoke about a number of Hillary’s platform points including her plan to create jobs and her support of labor unions. He also went after Donald Trump for avoiding to pay income taxes. Overall, however, Sanders offered a populist tone saying, “This campaign is not about Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton — it is about you and your families. We’re not voting for class president of our high school … we are fighting for the survival of the middle class.” A video from the event is below.

Sanders then traveled to Ann Arbor where he spoke to an enthusiastic crowd on the campus of the University of Michigan. During the event, Sanders spoke about the importance of voting, particularly young people, and urged them to get out and vote in November. He spoke about a number of Hillary’s platform points and specifically focused on her plans to reduce the cost of higher education. He said, “What she said is, I should tell the American people that in the first 100 days of her administration she will roll out a very specific plan to make public colleges and universities tuition free for all families earning less than $125,000 a year. In Lansing, Sanders spoke to a crowd of students and supporters on the campus of Michigan State University. Sanders continued to speak about a number of Hillary’s platform points while going after Trump for his policies. Focusing on the economy and the struggle of the middle class, he said, “We have come a long way in fighting racism, sexism, homophobia. But today we have one huge struggle in front of us, and that is the economic struggle. And that means that we should not be living in a nation which has more wealth and income inequality than any other major country on earth.” A video of Sanders speech is below.

Sanders’ final event of the day was a rally in Grand Rapids. During the event, Sanders continued with his populist tone talking about the local economy and how a number Hillary’s proposals will be beneficial to the area. He spoke about raising the minimum wage and creating new good paying jobs in the area by reinvesting in manufacturing and clean energy. A video from the event will be posted when/if available.

Chelsea Clinton meanwhile was in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she spoke about Hillary’s plans to help mothers and families. During the event, Chelsea highlighted a number of Hillary’s platform points including her plans to cap the out of pocket costs of childcare, ensure that women are paid equally, raise the minimum wage, and create new jobs by investing in infrastructure and clean energy. Chelsea also spoke about the public perception of her mother saying, “I don’t understand the caricature of my mom. I wish more people could see the huggable, lovable, hilarious side of her that I see now when we are together, with my children, and that I have known my whole life.” Chelsea closed out the event by answering questions from those in attendance. In Los Angeles, California, a fundraiser was held on behalf of Hillary for America. The event featured a conversation with Senator Al Franken.

Hillary for America released the following summary of major newspaper that have announced their endorsement of Hillary Clinton for president.

Editorial boards from across the country are backing Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump because they find her to be qualified for the office and fit to serve, and they find him lacking both. There is an unprecedented depth and breadth of endorsements, many of which highlight Clinton’s strength while lamenting the danger Trump would pose as President. In fact, the Dallas Morning News had not backed a Democrat for more than 75 years and the Cincinnati Inquirer had not backed a Democrat since 1916.

Clinton Says She has “No Excuses” for Email Controversy

In an exclusive phone interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, Hillary Clinton was asked about a number of issues including recent revelations that the FBI has recovered 15,000 emails from her email server. Clinton responded by saying, “When I try to explain what happened, it can sound like I’m trying to excuse what I did. And there are no excuses.” Cooper also asked Clinton about her lack of press conferences and the attacks waged by Republican Donald Trump. An audio only video from the interview is below.

While on the west coast, Clinton attended two fundraisers in California. In the Los Angeles area on Tuesday, she attended a fundraiser at the home of Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel. Other celebrities attending the event were Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, and Tobey Maguire. Then, on Wednesday, Clinton attended a fundraiser in the San Francisco area. The event was hosted by Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Clinton Meets with Law Enforcement Officials

Hillary Clinton met with several top law enforcement officials form across the country on Thursday. During a meeting in New York City, Clinton briefly addressed the media and the group and spoke about the importance of working with law enforcement groups to ensure they are getting the required training and resources for them to keep the public safe. She said, “I think we can come together with a sense of shared purpose, and a belief in our common destiny to have a purpose where we go forth united and do everything possible to respond to any legitimate questions, to find answers together and to keep our communities safe, to protect lives and property, while also respecting every single American.”

The of officials that attended the meeting represent a wide variety of populations and included decades of experience. Those attending the discussion included: New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck, Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus, New York City Chief of Department James O’Neil, Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole, former Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, Camden Police Chief Scott Thomson, and Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez. Following her brief remarks, Clinton listened to the concerns of each of the officials and the challenges they face in their respective jurisdictions. A video of Clinton’s statement is below.

Meanwhile, in Bozeman, Montana, actress Jennifer Garner attended a fundraiser on behalf of Hillary for America. The event was hosted by Carol Williams.

Kaine Campaigns in Manchester, NH

Tim Kaine spoke to a group of supporters on Saturday in Manchester, New Hampshire. During the rally at Saint Anselm College, Kaine touted Hillary Clinton’s economic plans and her proposed investment in the country’s infrastructure. He said that her plan would create millions of jobs across the country, while her opponent’s economic plan would not. Kaine also went after Donald Trump for not releasing his income tax returns after Clinton released her 2015 return and Kaine released ten years of his returns yesterday. Speaking about the tradition of presidents and presidential candidates releasing their returns, he said, “Everybody’s done it. Trump is not doing it. He says the rules that apply to everybody else do not apply to Donald J. Trump.” A video from the event is below.

On Friday, a fundraiser was held on behalf of Hillary for America in New York City. Senator Cory Booker was the guest at the event. Then, on Saturday, Phil Angelides attended a fundraiser in Los Angeles, California. The event was hosted by Steve Hely, Vali Chandrasekaran, Melissa Lo, and Matt Warburton. Meanwhile, in Atlanta, Georgia, Senator Booker attended a for45 event.

Hillary Clinton Calls for Unity in Illinois Speech

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton gave a speech at the Old State Capital in Springfield, Illinois. Speaking at the same venue as President Abraham Lincoln, Clinton gave a speech reminiscent of his “House Divided” speech in 1858. Clinton quotes Lincoln’s speech a number of time as she spoke about race and called for unity. “The challenges we face today do not approach those of Lincoln’s time, not even close, and we should be clear about that. But recent events across America have left people asking if we are still a house divided,” she said.

Clinton attacked Republican Donald Trump for turning the “Party of Lincoln” into the “Party of Trump.” She referred to Trump’s comments against Muslims, Mexicans, and women as an example of how Trump is a divisive figure. She said, “We need a president who can pull us together, not split us apart.” Clinton went on to say that “despite our best efforts and highest hopes, America’s long struggle with race is far from finished.” But if we work toward bridging the divides in the country, we will remain, in Lincoln’s words, “the last best hope on Earth.” A video of Clinton’s speech is below and a transcript can be read HERE.

Across the country fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America. In St. Louis, Missouri, Clinton attended a fundraiser following her speech in Illinois. Senior Policy Advisor Jake Sullivan and Domestic Policy Advisor Sara Solow attended a lunch fundraiser in Menlo Park, California. Also in California, Trevor Houser spoke at a clean energy roundtable discussion that was hosted by Mike Levin and Michael Swords. Finally, in New York City, De’Ara Balenger attended a fundraiser hosted by Phil Mahla and Neil Printz, and Mary Delaney Penick and David Penick.

Hillary Clinton Holds Town Hall for Digital Content Creators

On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton attended two fundraisers and held a town hall event for digital content creators in Los Angeles, California. During the event, Clinton spoke about her plans to cultivate innovation and assist young people with their startups. Clinton then took questions from those in attendance and spoke about a number of topics including job creation, foreign policy alliances, and her thoughts on Republican Donald Trump.

Clinton also unveiled her Initiative on Technology & Innovation on Tuesday. While some of the details were discussed at an event earlier in the day in Denver, more details were discussed during the evening’s town hall. Hillary Clinton Campaigns in California on Eve of Primary

Hillary Clinton wrapped up five days of campaigning in California by speaking at several events in Los Angeles area. Clinton’s first event of the day was a Get Out the Vote event in Lynwood where she told supporters about a number of her platform points including equal pay for women, raising the minimum wage, growing the economy, and passing comprehensive immigration reform. Throughout her speech, she criticized Republican nominee Donald Trump for his stance on a number of topics and his divisive rhetoric. Before her speech in Lynwood, Clinton took several minutes to speak to the press. She was asked about yesterday’s win in the Puerto Rico primary and her thoughts on the prospect of being the first female nominee by a major political party. Clinton said that she is honored to win in Puerto Rico, and she is focused on the six states that vote tomorrow. Clinton was also asked about her thoughts on her race with Bernie Sanders and her plans to go forward against Trump. Clinton said that it is important for the Democratic Party to unify against Trump, and she said that she will reach out to Sanders to work with him and his supporters. Clinton then spoke at rallies in South Los Angeles and Long Beach. During each event, she spoke about her platform points and attacked Trump for his divisive nature. Before the event in Long Beach, news outlets had declared Clinton the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party, but she downplayed the projection saying that there was still a lot of work to be done. She urged supporters to get out and vote for her tomorrow because a win in California would be a great way to begin the general election. A video from the Long Beach event is below.

Clinton’s final event of the night was an appearance at the She’s With Us Concert held at The Greek Theatre. The concert featured performances by Christina Aguilera, Andra Day, John Legend, Ricky Martin, and Stevie Wonder. While Clinton’s appearance was brief, the performers and celebrity guests warmed up the crowd by talking about Clinton’s plans as well as attacking Trump. Other speakers at the event included Cher, Jamie Foxx, Eva Longoria, Mary Steenburgen, Kate Walsh, Chrissy Teigen, and Magic Johnson.

Bill Clinton Speaks at Three Los Angeles Area Campaign Events

On Sunday, Bill Clinton campaigned for Hillary Clinton in Los Angeles. He began by attending Sunday morning church services at First African Methodist Episcopal Church where he also joined the congregation for breakfast. Bill then spoke at the Boys and Girls Clubs of East Los Angeles. During his speech, he talked about the importance of the 2016 election and why Hillary is the best choice to keep moving the country forward. He spoke about a number of Hillary’s key platform points including health care, the economy, and immigration reform. He then urged voters to vote in Tuesday’s primary and vote for Hillary. Later, Bill spoke at a Get Out the Vote rallies at Mariachi Plaza and Plaza de la Raza Cultural Center. During each of the events, Bill focused on Hillary’s major platform points and targeted Republican nominee Donald Trump. At one event, he was interrupted by protestors, but he kept addressing the supporters. Referring to the protestors, he said, “They say everybody who disagrees with them is a part of some nefarious establishment. Well it’s a pretty big establishment.” Bill continues to focus on smaller local rallies as he meets with supporters. He concluded each event by asking for the support of voters. In the evening, Bill attended a fundraiser in support of the Hillary Victory Fund in Los Gatos.

Hillary Clinton Endorsed by The Los Angeles Times

Yesterday, The Los Angeles Times Editorial Board published their endorsement of Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders in Tuesday’s Democratic primary in California. The primary reason for their endorsement is that Clinton’s experience and political acumen make her better prepared to go up against Republican nominee Donald Trump. They also argued that Clinton’s plans are more practical, and her background and history of working with both Democrats and Republicans suggests that she will be better at accomplishing her plans as president.

The board said that Clinton is better prepared than Sanders to be president saying, “But Clinton is not only more knowledgeable about domestic and international affairs than Sanders, but also more likely to achieve objectives they have in common. Her speech last week on foreign policy in San Diego  — in which she skillfully skewered Trump for his ignorance and recklessness — was a reminder of the breadth of her understanding of international affairs. On domestic policy, her positions on issues such as healthcare and financial regulation are less utopian than what Sanders has proposed but also more realistic.”

The board did have several positive comments about Sanders saying that he has done a great job getting the attention of voters and shining the spotlight on a number of important issues. But the board concludes, “Voters in California’s Democratic primary owe a debt of gratitude to Bernie Sanders for a campaign that has emphasized issues that otherwise might have been ignored.
