Tim Kaine Addresses the National Urban League

Tim Kaine spoke at the National Urban League Conference in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday. During his speech, he said that a Hillary Clinton administration would combat social and economic issues in the country’s cities. He spoke about the need to “end the era of mass incarceration” and vowed that as president, Clinton would work toward passing criminal justice reform. As a part of the reform, Kaine called for additional police training and increasing the collection of data on crime. He said, “A profound distance has grown up between law enforcement and communities in too many places in America, and that distance is dangerous. Let’s support independent data collection, investigation, and, if necessary, prosecution of police involved in deaths.” While in Baltimore, Kaine met with Representative Elijah Cummings, and they discussed voter ID laws, the economy, and their work as civil rights attorneys. Fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America in two states today. The first was in McLean, Virginia and included a conversation with Deputy Foreign Policy Advisor Bishop Garrison, Former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center Matt Olsen, and Foreign Policy Advisor Laura Rosenberger. The event was held at the home of Andrew Borene. The second event was held in New York City and included a conversation with Assemblyman Michael Blake and Director of State Campaigns and Political Engagement Marlon Marshall.

Bill Clinton Campaigns for Hillary in New Jersey

On Friday, Bill Clinton campaigned on behalf of Hillary Clinton in New Jersey. Speaking at an organizing event in Edison, Bill focused on Hillary’s plans to move America forward and pointed to examples from her background to make his case. He said that Hillary offers unity and is willing to listen to ideas from any side of aisle saying, “Every job Hillary had in Washington she worked with Democrats and Republicans together.” Bill spoke to supporters at Edison High School and outlined a number of Hillary’s key platform points including reducing student debt, continuing to improve health care, and investing in clean energy. Also on Thursday, Foreign Policy Advisor Laura Rosenberger spoke with American citizens and Hillary supporters in Beijing, China. The event was hosted by Ada Shen, Carolyn Wu, and Wenchi Yu.

Bill Clinton Campaigns for Hillary in Kentucky

On Thursday, Bill Clinton returned to Kentucky where he campaigned on behalf of his wife Hillary. During his first appearance in Owenboro, Bill spoke about his wife’s experience and her dedication to helping people better themselves. He spoke about a number of Hillary’s platform points including health care, income inequality, and her plans to continue building the economy. Speaking at Kentucky Wesleyan College, Bill focused section of his speech on Kentucky specific policies, including the state’s coal economy. He said, “We’ve got to prove that every place in America can get its fair share of clean energy jobs. You say ‘Well, we’re a coal state.’ Yes, and we will continue to run coal for some years to come but that shouldn’t exclude other things.”

In Frankfort, Bill spoke with a crowd of supporters at the Capital Plaza Hotel. He spoke about the need for the continued need for job growth in the state and country, and he outlined Hillary’s plan to create new jobs with a number of his plans, including one to repair the country’s crumbling infrastructure. At both events, he referenced Hillary’s experience as a change maker saying, “She’s the best change maker I’ve ever known. She’s the best at this I’ve ever known. There are 35,000 potential votes in this primary and the fight for this area. So I want you to vote for her.” He then asked for voters’ support during Tuesday’s primary.

Bill’s final event of the day was held tonight in Prestonsburg. His speech focused on coal and what Hillary plans to do for communities that rely heavily on coal for jobs. He outlined her plan to bring new jobs and industry to the region as the United States begins to rely less and less on coal energy. Bill was greeted by some protesters and a few were vocal during his speech, but she said that he didn’t “care if you boo or cheer. I’m glad you’re here.” The coal industry in Kentucky is in decline and he assured voters that Hillary has a plan so they are not left behind. Meanwhile, two fundraisers were held today on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was in West Hollywood, California and featured a conversation with campaign manager Robby Mook. The second event was in Washington, DC and was hosted by Sherry and John Goodman. The event featured a conversation with Michèle Flournoy, Former Under Secretary of Defense; Laura Rosenberger, Foreign Policy Advisor for Hillary for America; and Capricia Penavic Marshall, Former US Chief of Protocol.

Bill Clinton Campaigns in Harlem, Queens

On Sunday, Bill Clinton campaigned on behalf of Hillary Clinton in Harlem and Queens. He began in Harlem this morning where he attended Sunday services at three churches. The three churches that he spoke at were: Abyssinian Baptist Church, Antioch Baptist Church, and Mount Neboh Baptist Church. At each church, Bill was introduced by Rep. Charles Rangel, and she spoke about Hillary’s plans to increase minimum wage and opportunities for everyone across the country.

Bill then spoke at an organizing events at the New York Hall of Science in Queens and the John John Jay College in New York City. At both events, he spoke about Hillary’s plans to increase incomes and continue building on the economy so everyone can prosper. He also spoke about criminal justice reform and referenced the death of Eric Garner. Garner was selling cigarettes in New York City and died when he was put in a choke hold by police. Bill said, “I say that because they may not have intended to kill that man—they violated procedural rules with a chokehold with a very heavy guy. People do stuff like that when they’re scared, when they’re alienated, when they feel like there’s this vast divide—and we have to get rid of that.” Videos from today’s events will be added when/if available.

A number of fundraisers were held today on behalf of Hillary for America. In Washington, DC, Campaign Chair John Podesta attended an event that included Senior Policy Advisor Maya Harris. The event was hosted by Maddy Beckwith, Ezekiel Emanuel, Terry Lierman, Tony Podesta, Chris Putala, and Oscar Ramirez. A fundraiser was also held in Villanova, Pennsylvania. The event included a conversation with Valerie Plame and was hosted by Stella M. Tsai and Jannie K. Lau. The final event was a virtual conversation with Foreign Policy Advisor Laura Rosenberger for American citizens living in São Paulo, Brazil.

Bill Clinton Campaigns in Wisconsin

On Friday, Bill Clinton campaigned for Hillary Clinton in Wisconsin. Speaking at Lawrence University in Appleton, Clinton focused on a number of Hillary’s platform points including her idea for Wall Street reform, her plan to lower the cost of higher education, and her focus on clean energy. He also criticized Republican front-runner Donald Trump for his plans to build a wall on the United States’ border with Mexico and said that the focus needed to be on building a strong middle class. He said, “We can do this, but we can’t do this until we tear down (economic) barriers.” A video from today’s speech will be posted when/if available.

Also campaigning on behalf of Hillary on Friday were two Hillary for America advisors. In State College, Pennsylvania, Foreign Policy Advisor Laura Rosenberger attended a fundraiser hosted by Michael Berkman, Sue Port, John McCarthy, Patricia House, Virginia McGregor, Art Patterson, and Nancy Chiswick. Meanwhile in Newtown, Pennsylvania, Campaign Chair John Podesta hosted an event at the home of John Cordisco.
