Hillary for America Chair John Podesta Statement on Trump’s RNC Speech

Following Donald Trump’s acceptance speech as the Republican party’s nominee for president, Hillary for America Chair John Podesta released a statement criticizing Trump’s portrayal of America. Even more so, Podesta attacked Trump’s divisive rhetoric which will do nothing but divide the country further. He argued that Democrats are focused on issues and ensuring that everyone in America as equal opportunity. A copy of Podesta’s statement is below:

“Tonight, Donald Trump painted a dark picture of an America in decline. And his answer – more fear, more division, more anger, more hate — was yet another reminder that he is temperamentally unfit and totally unqualified to be President of the United States.  He offered no real solutions to help working families get ahead or to keep our country safe, just more prejudice and paranoia. America is better than this.  America is better than Donald Trump.  Next week in Philadelphia, Democrats will focus on issues, not anger. We’ll offer a positive vision for the future based on lifting America up, not tearing Americans down.”

Hillary Clinton Statement on Attempted Coup in Turkey

On Friday, military factions attempted to seize control in Turkey. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has returned to Istanbul as it has become clear that the coup has failed. United States President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry have both pledged their support for the Turkish leadership. Hillary Clinton released a statement calling for every to respect and support “the democratically elected civilian government.” A copy of the statement is below.

“I am following the fast-moving developments in Turkey tonight with great concern.  We should all urge calm and respect for laws, institutions, and basic human rights and freedoms – and support for the democratically elected civilian government.  All parties should work to avoid further violence and bloodshed, and the safety of American citizens and diplomatic missions must be ensured.”

Hillary Clinton Statement on Juneteenth

On Sunday, Hillary Clinton released a statement celebrating the Juneteenth Independence Day. The day celebrates the abolition of slavery in Texas in June 1865, two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. In the statement, Clinton acknowledges the long struggle that came after the end of slavery for the African American community and their fight to earn equal rights and the right to vote. A copy of Clinton’s statement is below:

“One hundred and fifty-three years ago, Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. It took two more years for the men, women, and children who lived their lives in bondage in Galveston, Texas, to learn that the Civil War was over—and they were free at last. Today, we celebrate and honor those who fought to end the grotesque institution of slavery, and we recommit ourselves to the work that remains.

Our country’s long struggle with racism is far from over. More than half a century after Rosa Parks sat and Dr. King marched and John Lewis bled—more than a century and a half after slavery was outlawed—race still plays a significant role in determining who gets ahead in America and who gets left behind. We need to face that reality, and fix it.

America is stronger together. When all people can share in the promise of our country. When every child has the chance to live up to his or her God-given potential. When we lift each other up. And when we all come together to build a more perfect union.”

Hillary Clinton Interviewed on Face The Nation

This morning’s episode of CBS’s Face the Nation featured an interview with Hillary Clinton. Host John Dickerson filmed the interview with Clinton on Friday, and during their conversation, they discussed whether Democratic rival Bernie Sanders should drop out of the race and the current status of the FBI investigation into her email. The majority of their conversation was about Clinton’s strategy against presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump. Clinton called Trump a “loose cannon,” and she pointed out the number of high profile Republicans who have said that they cannot back Trump. She said, “The Republicans themselves are raising questions about their presumptive nominee. And I think that’s in large measure, John, because they do understand how hard the job of being president is. When you have former presidents, when you have high-ranking Republican officials in Congress raising questions about their nominee–I don’t think it’s personal, so much as rooted in their respect for the office and their deep concern about what kind of leader he would be.” A video of the full interview is below.

Bill Clinton Campaigns for Hillary in California

On Wednesday, Bill Clinton spoke at two organizing events in California. During his first event in San Diego, he spoke about Hillary Clinton’s plans for the future including health care, gun control, growing the economy, and creating new jobs. He said, “She’s got the best ideas to restore the middle class and restore upward mobility, both from poverty and working class into the middle class, and up. She’s got the best ideas to reduce inequality and increase investment in America.” He urged voters to come out and support Hillary on June 7, no matter the delegate lead she has over Democratic rival Bernie Sanders.

Later in the day, Clinton spoke to supporters in Koreatown in Los Angeles. He spoke about a number of Hillary’s platform points including gun control, the economy, and the jobs. Clinton spoke about their relationship with Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities and Hillary’s goal to bring people together and not divide people. He asked for voters support in the upcoming primary saying, “This is important for her, as well as for me, for our lifetime of work, for me to be here today and to look at your faces and to know that you have her back and you’re going to support her. Several fundraisers were held today on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was an event at the home of Bob and Liz Pozen in Boston, Massachusetts. The evening featured a conversation with campaign chair John Podesta. The second event was held in New York City. It was hosted at the home of Paul Boskind and featured Emmy Award Winning Actors Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly and Executive Producer Barney Rosenzweig.

Meet HFA Campaign Chair John Podesta

This coming week’s issue of Time magazine Hillary has a feature about Hillary for America campaign chair John Podesta. When Hillary Clinton decided to run for president in 2016, she chose Podesta to run her campaign. The Clintons have known Podesta for over two decades and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, relied on him in the White House, making him chief of staff for the final years of his administration. Podesta’s key strengths are his leadership and his meticulous planning. He has been a visual part of Clinton’s campaign and has been seen rallying volunteers and supporters, and he has taken part in a number of fundraisers. Should Clinton win the Democratic nomination in June and the White House in November, a great deal of credit will be owed to Podesta’s ability to learn from the past and long-term strategies. Hillary Interviewed on CNBC

On Friday, Hillary Clinton was interviewed by John Harwood live on CNBC. Appearing on this afternoon’s episode of Closing Bell, Clinton was asked about her primary race against Bernie Sanders, her thoughts on Republican rival Donald Trump, and about the continued FBI investigation into her use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State. Clinton said that she is focuses on helping the middle class and protecting jobs in the United States, something that her Republican rivals have not talked about. Hillary Clinton Campaigns in South Carolina

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton attended events across South Carolina leading up to Saturday’s primary. Clinton spoke at a Columbia luncheon for the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the nation’s first African-American sorority. She spoke to the group of women about the disparity between white people and people of color, and how it especially affects women. She said, “Something is wrong when black women are more than three times more likely to die in this country in this century from complications due to childbirth. Imagine if a white baby here in South Carolina were twice as likely to die as an African-American baby. Imagine the outcry and the resources that would flood in.” Clinton spoke about the continued fight for equal rights and the systemic racism that continues in parts of the country. Tonight, Clinton attended a town hall on the campus of Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina. During the event, Clinton spoke about race, poverty, and inequality. She also spoke out against the effort in a number of southern state to make it more difficult to vote. The measures being introduced disproportionately affect people of color, and she urged those in attendance to follow the lead of Representative John Lewis and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and fight against it. She also blasted Senate Republicans for vowing to not confirm a Supreme Court nominee put forward by President Barack Obama. She said, “To say don’t even send us a nominee is at variance to the Constitution and deeply disrespectful to the office of the president of the United States.” A video from the event will be added when/if available.

Clintons Attend Sunday Fundraisers

Following yesterday’s Nevada caucus win, Hillary Clinton was scheduled to attend a number of fundraisers in California on Sunday. She was expected to attend a fundraiser in Atherton at the home of Sukhinder Singh Cassidy. She then attended a fundraiser event hosted by Noosheen Hashemi, Gisel and Omid Kordestan, Lily Sarafan in Menlo Park. The final fundraiser of the day was in Piedmont and hosted by Rebecca and Mike Ghielmetti, Quinn Delaney and Wayne Jordan.

Bill Clinton attended fundraisers in Colorado Springs and Oklahoma City on behalf of Hillary for America. While in Colorado Springs, Bill attended Community Event at Colorado College. During his speech, he spoke about a number of Hillary’s campaign platform topics including the economy, jobs, infrastructure, and health care. Bill will host a Get Out the Vote event tonight in Oklahoma City. Full coverage from the event will be posted tomorrow.

Also hosting an event today was John Podesta, Campaign Chair of Hillary for America. The event, held in Washington, DC, was a campaign briefing and fundraiser. Attending the event was special guest Carla Hall, Co-Host of ABC’s The Chew.

Clinton Appears on Face the Nation

This morning, Hillary Clinton appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation. In her 10-minute interview with host John Dickerson, Clinton was asked about the upcoming primaries in New Hampshire and Iowa, two races that are close between her and chief rival, Bernie Sanders.

She was also asked about a string of personal attacks that have been directed and her and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. In the past she had vowed to not respond to these attacks, but today she said, “If he wants to engage in personal attacks from the past, that is his prerogative. You know, so be it. There are very clear distinctions. He can say whatever he wants about me. Let the voters judge that. But I am not going to let him or any of the other Republicans rip away the progress that we have. It has been too hard fought for. And I am going to stand up and make it clear there is a huge difference between us.” A video of the full interview is above.
