Tim Kaine Campaigns in Wisconsin and Michigan

Tim Kaine wrapped up the work week with stops in Wisconsin and Michigan. He began in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he spoke to a crowd at supporters at the Lakefront Brewery. During his speech, he focused on American made products and Hillary Clinton’s jobs plan. He criticized Donald Trump for his campaigns focus on him and less on the American people saying, “We’re talking about jobs, and Donald Trump is basically shadowboxing with every enemy he can think of.” Kaine also praised a Wisconsin court for striking down a law passed by Republicans to limit early voting. In Michigan, Kaine spoke at the Wealthy Theatre in Grand Rapids. He continued to speak about job creation and Clinton’s plans to upgrade the country’s infrastructure. He continued his attacks on Trump by contrasting the two campaigns and the policies proposed by both candidates. “This is the guy who wants to be commander in chief, but during his entire life Donald Trump has bragged about figuring out every trick to avoid paying taxes,” he said. Meanwhile, in San Francisco, California, a fundraiser was held on behalf of Hillary for America. The event included a conversation with Campaign Chair John Podesta and Darren Criss.

DNC Wrap-Up: Day 1

Last night was night one of the Democratic National Convention, and it was a packed event! The night was filled with speeches from  Representative Nancy Pelosi, Representative Elijah Cummings, Hillary for America Campaign Manager John Podesta, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Senator Bob Casey, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Senator Al Franken, Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and Senator Cory Booker, and many more. The headliner of the night was First Lady Michelle Obama who delivered an impassioned speech supporting Hillary Clinton, and she firmly said, “I’m with her.”

Senator Sanders, Clinton’s rival for the party’s nomination, spoke in an attempt to unify the party behind Clinton. Sanders said that while he understands the disappointment of his supporters, it is important that the party unites and defeats Republican Donald Trump in November. He said that Clinton understands “the real problems facing this country and has offered real solutions – not just bombast, fear-mongering, name-calling and divisiveness.” Videos from a number of key speeches are below and all videos from the event are available on the DNC YouTube channel.

The DNC also featured several videos highlighting Clinton’s career and attacking Trump’s divisive attitude. With the two videos below, the DNC highlights Clinton’s commitment to combating substance abuse while the other video highlights Trump’s use of outsourcing as a business strategy despite his call for American made products.

Hillary Clinton Campaigns in Oakland

On Friday, Hillary Clinton remained in California where she spoke at an organizing event in Oakland. Before heading over to the venue to give her speech, Clinton spoke to volunteers at her newly opened headquarters in Oakland. She then went to La Escuelita School where to spoke to a crowd of supporters. During her speech, Clinton took a number of shots of the presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump. She stressed the importance of the 2016 election and the role California plays in the elections with its large number of delegates and Electoral College votes. She asked for voters’ support in the June 7 primary. A video from today’s event will be added when/if available.

While in California, Clinton also attended a fundraiser in San Francisco. The event included Elizabeth Banks, Cheryl Strayed, Senator Barbara Boxer, and Senator Dianne Feinstein. In Los Angeles, Bill Clinton attended a fundraiser hosted by Laura and Sandy Michelman. Campaign Chair John Podesta was also in California, and he attended a San Fransisco fundraiser hosted by Dan Reicher. The event included a conversation with California Air Resources Board Chair Mary Nichols.

Hillary Clinton Kicks off “Breaking Down Barriers” Tour in Appalachia

Today, Hillary Clinton began a series of events that she is calling the “Breaking Down Barriers” tour. The goal of the tour is to speak with small groups of voters and get a better understanding of their concerns. During her first event in Ashland, Kentucky, Clinton met with workers at Alma’s Italian Cafe where she outlined her plan to help coal communities. She compared her plan to the “Marshall Plan,” the plan that rebuilt Western Europe following World War II, saying that the three main parts would protect health and pension benefits of miners, research how coal can be a clean part of America’s energy future, and invest in alternative energy. She also spoke about her plans to entice more businesses to keep their manufacturing operations in the United States.

Clinton then traveled to Williamson, West Virginia where she was met by a number of protestors who took issue with recent comments Clinton made about the coal industry. During the event, Clinton apologized for the comments saying that her comments were taken out of context. She said, “What I was saying is that, the way things are going now, we will continue to lose jobs. That’s what I meant to say. I do feel a little bit sad and sorry that I gave folks the reason or the excuse to be so upset with me because that is not what I intended at all.” Clinton visited with miners who have lost their jobs and community leaders who are struggling with unemployed citizens. She vowed to support West Virginia and towns that rely heavily on coal mining for survival even if the state does not support her in the primary or November. Meanwhile, fundraisers were being held for Hillary for America across the country. Chelsea Clinton was in Washington, DC where she attended a fundraiser. Also in Washington, DC, Campaign Chair John Podesta attended a fundraiser along with policy advisors Ann O’Leary and Jennifer Klein. In Brookline, Massachusetts, a fundraising event was held at the home of John Reinstein and retired Judge Nancy Gertner. Attending the event was former Attorney General Eric Holder. In Portland, Oregon, Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan and actress Kathleen Turner were on hand to kickoff a phone bank effort.

Meet HFA Campaign Chair John Podesta

This coming week’s issue of Time magazine Hillary has a feature about Hillary for America campaign chair John Podesta. When Hillary Clinton decided to run for president in 2016, she chose Podesta to run her campaign. The Clintons have known Podesta for over two decades and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, relied on him in the White House, making him chief of staff for the final years of his administration. Podesta’s key strengths are his leadership and his meticulous planning. He has been a visual part of Clinton’s campaign and has been seen rallying volunteers and supporters, and he has taken part in a number of fundraisers. Should Clinton win the Democratic nomination in June and the White House in November, a great deal of credit will be owed to Podesta’s ability to learn from the past and long-term strategies. Chelsea Clinton Among those Fundraising for Hillary

Following Hillary Clinton’s primary wins on Tuesday, Hillary for America has been fundraising. On Wednesday, two fundraisers were held in support of Hillary For America. The first was in Maine and hosted by the Maine for Hillary Finance Committee. The evening featured a conversation with Senator George Mitchell. The second event was in Washington, DC and hosted by Senior Policy advisor Jake Sullivan and Campaign Vice Chair Huma Abedin. Those attending got the opportunity to visit with the cast from ABC’s Scandal. The actors attending included Guillermo Diaz, Tony Goldwyn, Katie Lowes, Jeff Perry, and Bellamy Young.

Today, Chelsea Clinton was in Washington, DC where she attended an afternoon fundraiser. In New York City, Campaign Chair John Podesta attended an event hosted by Ambassador Gabriel Guerra-Mondragón. The event featured Chef Marianna Morrison. Senior Policy Advisor Ann O’Leary attended a fundraiser in San Francisco, California that was hosted by Janni Lehrer-Stein and Kath Delaney. The event included a performance by Mezzo-Soprano Laurie Rubin and pianist Jenny Taira. The final fundraiser was held at the The Theater at The Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, California. The event was hosted by Tracey Baird, Jamie Babbit, Page Hurwitz, Krysia Plonka, Liz Patrick, Jamila Hunter, Karey Dornetto, Maggie Malina and David Tischman, Christy Spitzer, Wanda Sykes, Kassie Thornton, Cheryl Holliday, Marissa Jaret Winokur, and Sue Murphy. Those attending the event included Cristela Alonzo, Maria Bamford, Michelle Buteau, Fortune Feimster, Retta, Tig Notaro, Natasha Leggero, Kate Walsh and Cybill Shepherd.

Bill Campaigns for Hillary in Rhode Island

On Thursday, Bill Clinton spoke at the one of the first campaign events for Hillary Clinton in Rhode Island. He spoke at an organizing event on the campus of the Community College of Rhode Island where he was joined by Governor Gina Raimondo. Bill’s speech touched on a wide variety of Hillary’s platform topics including the economy and jobs, health care, the rising costs of higher education, and the importance of the 2016 election. He asked for voters support on April 26 and added, “You’ve been good to me, Rhode Island. You’ve been good to Hillary. You don’t owe us anything. But Hillary feels she does owe you a straightforward account of what the next president can do so we can all rise together.” A video from today’s event will be posted when/if available.

Following the event in Rhode Island, Bill went on to attend two fundraisers. The first was in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts and was hosted by Mark and Audrey Schuster. The second event was held in Newton, Massachusetts and was held at the home of Dr. Kevin and Caron Tabb. Meanwhile, Chelsea Clinton attended a fundraising event in New York City. The event was hosted by Diane von Furstenburg and included Eva Chen, Audrey Gelman, Aurora James, Mia Moretti, Lilliana Vazquez, and Emily Weiss. A second fundraiser was held in New York City and was hosted by Campaign Chair John Podesta.

Bill Campaigns in New York, Chelsea in DC

On Monday, all three Clintons, Hillary Bill, and Chelsea, attended events across New York and in Washington, DC. Bill was in New York City where he spoke with residents at the Hebrew Home for the Aging in the Bronx with Congressman Eliot Engel. During the event, Bill spoke about Hillary’s plans to expand elderly care and protect Social Security benefits. He said, “So many vulnerable people. We are all living longer now. It means that we have to make the most of our elder years. That’s another thing she’s really interested in.”

Bill then went to an organizing event in Brooklyn. Speaking at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, Clinton spoke about Hillary’s platform and her experience. He also spoke about Sanders’ campaign tactics and his recent interest in running as a Democrat (Sanders is an Independent Senator from Vermont). He said, “Sometimes in this primary I get the feeling that the gentleman who’s running against Hillary is running harder against President Obama and me than he is against the legacy of the Bush administration. You know, after he’s been a Democrat a little while longer he’ll get used to it. He’ll realize, you know, our party is the best hope we got.” A video from today’s speeches will be added when/if available.

Chelsea focused her attention on Washington, DC where she attended two area fundraisers. In addition, two others campaigned on behalf of Hillary for America today. Campaign Chair John Podesta attended a fundraiser in Washington, DC. In New York City, Economic Policy Advisor Mike Schmidt attended a local fundraiser as well.

Bill Clinton Campaigns in Harlem, Queens

On Sunday, Bill Clinton campaigned on behalf of Hillary Clinton in Harlem and Queens. He began in Harlem this morning where he attended Sunday services at three churches. The three churches that he spoke at were: Abyssinian Baptist Church, Antioch Baptist Church, and Mount Neboh Baptist Church. At each church, Bill was introduced by Rep. Charles Rangel, and she spoke about Hillary’s plans to increase minimum wage and opportunities for everyone across the country.

Bill then spoke at an organizing events at the New York Hall of Science in Queens and the John John Jay College in New York City. At both events, he spoke about Hillary’s plans to increase incomes and continue building on the economy so everyone can prosper. He also spoke about criminal justice reform and referenced the death of Eric Garner. Garner was selling cigarettes in New York City and died when he was put in a choke hold by police. Bill said, “I say that because they may not have intended to kill that man—they violated procedural rules with a chokehold with a very heavy guy. People do stuff like that when they’re scared, when they’re alienated, when they feel like there’s this vast divide—and we have to get rid of that.” Videos from today’s events will be added when/if available.

A number of fundraisers were held today on behalf of Hillary for America. In Washington, DC, Campaign Chair John Podesta attended an event that included Senior Policy Advisor Maya Harris. The event was hosted by Maddy Beckwith, Ezekiel Emanuel, Terry Lierman, Tony Podesta, Chris Putala, and Oscar Ramirez. A fundraiser was also held in Villanova, Pennsylvania. The event included a conversation with Valerie Plame and was hosted by Stella M. Tsai and Jannie K. Lau. The final event was a virtual conversation with Foreign Policy Advisor Laura Rosenberger for American citizens living in São Paulo, Brazil.

Bill Clinton Campaigns in Wisconsin

On Friday, Bill Clinton campaigned for Hillary Clinton in Wisconsin. Speaking at Lawrence University in Appleton, Clinton focused on a number of Hillary’s platform points including her idea for Wall Street reform, her plan to lower the cost of higher education, and her focus on clean energy. He also criticized Republican front-runner Donald Trump for his plans to build a wall on the United States’ border with Mexico and said that the focus needed to be on building a strong middle class. He said, “We can do this, but we can’t do this until we tear down (economic) barriers.” A video from today’s speech will be posted when/if available.

Also campaigning on behalf of Hillary on Friday were two Hillary for America advisors. In State College, Pennsylvania, Foreign Policy Advisor Laura Rosenberger attended a fundraiser hosted by Michael Berkman, Sue Port, John McCarthy, Patricia House, Virginia McGregor, Art Patterson, and Nancy Chiswick. Meanwhile in Newtown, Pennsylvania, Campaign Chair John Podesta hosted an event at the home of John Cordisco.
