Bill Clinton went on a campaign bus tour of Florida today where he began in Jacksonville and ended in Gainesville. He made a number of stops along the way outside voting locations and in local businesses. The goal of the trip was to speak with and meet as many voters as possible and share Hillary Clinton’s vision for America. At various events, Bill was joined by other Democrats such as Reverend Jesse Jackson and former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley. Bill urged everyone to take advantage of early voting and to ensure that they cast their ballot for Hillary. Videos from today’s events will be added when/if available.
President Barack Obama campaigned on behalf of Hillary Clinton and local Democrats in Florida on Thursday. His first event was in Miami where he spoke to a crowd on the campus of Florida International University. While he spoke about the importance of the election and why Clinton is the right person for the job, Obama also touched on the state of politics and urged everyone to not get discouraged. “I know a lot of you are cynical about politics. There’s a lot about this election that gives you reason to be. But I’m here to tell you, right now, you have a chance to move history in a better direction. You have a chance to reject divisive politics and mean-spirited politics. If we win Florida, we will win this election.” He urged everyone to take advantage of early voting or get out and vote on Tuesday. A video of the president’s speech is below.
Obama then traveled to Jacksonville where he spoke about the importance of electing local Democrats to the Senate and House in addition to Clinton as president. Obama spoke about he dangers of electing Donald Trump president saying, “This is someone who would do damage to our democracy.” He said that Clinton has devoted her life to helping families and children and her plans will build on the progress the country has made during his administration. He praised Clinton’s experience and leadership saying, “She will be smart and steady. What’s at stake in this election is the character of the nation.” He concluded the event by encouraging everyone to have a voice in this election and vote. A video from the event is below.
On Monday, Tim Kaine campaigned in North Carolina where he began the day at an event in Jacksonville. During his speech, Kaine outlined a number of Hillary Clinton’s key platform points including her plans to create jobs and continue the economic growth started by the administration of President Barack Obama. He said that the goal is to build an economy that works for everyone, and not just those at the top. Kaine also spoke about Donald Trump and attacked Trump for his disrespect for the military. As the father of a Marine, Kaine said, “We need someone who has known about (the military) in the past and know what we look for in the future, even know what the military stands for other than fighting.” Kaine wrapped up the event by asking everyone to vote and to take advantage of the state’s early voting adding, “You are not the kind of people to stand by. We’re going to go out on November 8 and make history and do something that’s never been done.” A video from the event is below.
In Sanford, Kaine continued to focus on the economy and Clinton’s plans to create jobs by investing in infrastructure, manufacturing, clean energy, education and training, and helping small businesses. Kaine urged everyone to not become complacent by current polls indicating that the gap that favored Clinton in the polls is closing, something he said they knew would happen. “I’m the underdog until they call me the winner,” he said asking everyone to vote on November 8th or to take advantage of early voting. Meanwhile, Kaine’s wife, Anne Holton, was in Omaha, Nebraska where she held two events in appreciation of campaign volunteers. Full coverage from Holton’s events will be posted when/if available.
On Friday, Bill Clinton kicked off a campaign bus tour in Florida. He began in Orlando with a speech at the Florida Education Association Delegate Assembly. During the event, he spoke about the importance of the election and its potential impact on education. Bill spoke about Hillary Clinton’s plans to expand access to early childhood education and her plan to ensure that students graduate from college debt-free. He said that Hillary will be better than Donald Trump on education, jobs, and everything else. Bill said, “You can’t build a wall around yourself or the world in this world of social media. You’ve got to build bridges to empowerment. We are close to being able to rise together again. America needs a ‘What are we going to do about it?’ President.” Watch a video from the event below.
Bil then traveled to Jacksonville where he spoke to a crowd of supporters at a local library. Bill went after Trump for his proposals to scrap the Affordable Care Act saying that we cannot end a law that helped more than 20 million Americans access to health insurance. He also outlined a number of Hillary’s other policies including her plans to invest in the country’s infrastructure, clean energy, and the manufacturing sector. Bill explained that these investments would all lead to new jobs. He wrapped up his speech talking about the importance of voting and ensuring that everyone votes on, or before in the case of Florida, November 8th. A video of Bill’s speech is below.
Bill’s final event of the day was in Quincy. He focused on a number of Hillary’s platform points including her plans to create new jobs, pass comprehensive immigration reform, and pass sensible gun control that requires background checks and closes a number of loopholes. Bill spoke about the importance of voting and the work that will have to be done after the election to bring the country together for the common good. “That’s what ‘Stronger Together’ means. So you’ve got anger on one side and answers on the other. You’ve got resentment on one side and empowerment on the other. You’ve got endless political conflict and name-calling on one side and the promise of real cooperation on the other. You’ve got walls on one side and bridges on the other,” he said. Meanwhile, in London, a fundraiser was held for Hillary for America. The event was only open to American citizens and included a conversation with John Podesta, Campaign Chair and Wendy Sherman, Former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.
On Monday, Bill Clinton was on the campaign trail spending time in two states that hold their primaries tomorrow. He began with a morning Get Out the Vote rally in Greenville, North Carolina. During his speech, he spoke about Hillary’s experience and her career as a change maker. He said that her plans would ensure that everyone had access to the tools necessary to live up to their potential. He then asked North Carolinians to support her in tomorrow’s primary.
Clinton then traveled to Florida where he hosted a rally at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. In his speech, he argued that it is important to keep a Democrat in the White House. He said, “We have 14 million new jobs over the last five years. That’s the most we’ve had since that other Democrat, whatever his name was. And we have 90 percent of our people with health insurance for the first time.” He also criticized the Republican presidential candidates for not sticking to the issues and focusing more on fighting each other. On Thursday, Chelsea Clinton returned to the campaign trial for Hillary Clinton. She attended an event in Jacksonville, Florida focused on early childhood education. During the event, she said that Hillary had a plan to expand head start and preschool programs across the country. She said, “It’s so important we invest in and nurture the spirits and the brains of the children around us.” At the close of the event, Chelsea took questions from the crowd, both the adults and children. In Seattle, Washington, Olympic Figure Skater Michelle Kwan was on the campaign trail for Hillary as well. She has attended events for Hillary for America in the past, and today she attended two fundraisers. The first was an event hosted by Debadutta Dash. The second fundraiser was hosted by Mimi Gan and Everett Billingsea, Former Ambassador Gary Locke, Virginia Anderson, and Martha Choe.
On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton hosted a grassroots organizing event at the Meadow Woods Recreation Center in Orlando, Florida. During the event, Clinton rallied the crowd by touting her platform and plans as president. Her primary topics were her recently introduced infrastructure plan which would create tens of thousands of jobs across the country. She spoke about the infrastructure needs in Florida, specifically highway improvements in and around Orlando. Clinton also spoke about heath care, defending Planned Parenthood, and defeating ISIS. While in Florida, Clinton also attended a number of private fundraisers. The first was hosted at the home of Alex Sink in Thonotosassa. Sink is the former Chief Financial Officer for the state of Florida. Then, she attended a fundraising event in Windermere at the home of Bill Kitchen, the CEO of US Thrill Rides LLC. Finally, Clinton attended an event hosted by Sallyn Pajcic in Jacksonville. As with all private events, they were closed to the press.
