Clinton Picks Up Key Endorsement in Texas

1024x1024On Thursday, Hillary Rodham Clinton began her first trip to Texas as a presidential candidate with a Q&A session in San Antonio. The session was hosted by Javier Palomarez, the president of the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Clinton was asked a number of questions about her immigration and business plans, but she was also asked about the possibility of Housing and Urban Development Secretary, and former mayor of San Antonio, Julián Castro as a running mate. Clinton responded coyly saying, “I am going to really look hard at him for anything because that’s how good he is, and he deserves the accolades he’s receiving.”

Clinton then attended a Latinos for Hillary event in San Antonio where she was endorsed by Castro. The two appeared on stage together at Sunset Station where thousands turned out to listen hear Clinton speak. She focused heavily on immigration reform saying that she would defend the executive orders that have been enacted by President Barack Obama, and she would stand up against Congress if they passed legislation that led to the deportation of DREAMers. Clinton told the crowd, which consisted primarily of Latinos, “You’re not strangers, you’re not intruders. You’re our neighbors, you’re our friends, you’re our families. A video from the San Antonio rally is below.

Tonight, Clinton attended a private fundraiser at the home of Amber and Steven Mostyn. Both are lawyers with Mostyn Law. As with all private events, it was closed to the press.

Tomorrow, Clinton is scheduled to return to New Hampshire and will also appear on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper. For all the latest, follow our Scheduled Events page and follow Clinton on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Clinton Address National Council of La Raza Conference

Hillary Rodham Clinton addressed the National Council of La Raza Conference in Kansas City, Missouri this afternoon. During her speech, she built upon her economic speech from earlier in the day and referenced the economic inequality in the Latino community. She promised to fight for better economic opportunities and comprehensive immigration reform.

Clinton was not the only Democratic presidential candidate to speak at the conference. Senator Bernie Sanders and former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley were also featured speakers. All three candidates spoke about the similar topics, and all three attacked Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for his comments disparaging Latino  immigrants. Trump’s presidential opponents were slow to speak out against his comments, a fact which Clinton called out asking, “Why did it take weeks for most of you to speak out?”

Tomorrow, Clinton is expected to be in Washington, DC where she will meet with Democrats on Capitol Hill. For all the latest campaign news, be sure to follow along on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Who are those barriers aimed at: young people, poor people and people of color.” She also focused on immigration, saying that if Congress refused to act on immigration, she would further expand the executive orders President Barack Obama has enacted. She also vowed to limit the the number of deportations, and her goal is comprehensive immigration reform.

Clinton holds a roundtable discussion in Las Vegas on May 5, 2015

On Friday, an op-ed by Hillary Rodham Clinton was published in the Las Vegas based Spanish-language newspaper El Mundo. In the op-ed, Clinton recalls her recent trip to Las Vegas where she met with young immigrants during a roundtable event. She promised to fight for immigration reform if elected president and referenced her voting record on immigration as a Senator. She reassured the Hispanic community that they can count on her to fight for the preservation of their families.

She wrote, “As a mother, grandmother, and American, I don’t know how a person can meet these young people that have contributed so much to their communities and represent so much potential for the future, and think of threatening them and their families with deportation. And still that is precisely what almost every Republican candidate would do.”
