Clinton Returns to New Hampshire

On Friday, Hillary Rodham Clinton was back in New Hampshire for two events. The first was a town hall on the campus of Keene State College. A long topic of conversation during the 80 minute event was gun control. Clinton answered several questions about her plans and the difference between her and her rivals. In addition, Clinton was also asked about her opposition to the Glass-Steagall Act, her views on LGBT discrimination, and other aspects of her platform. Clinton then went to a grass roots even in Nashua where she spoke a number of her key plans, but she focused on Afghanistan and President Barack Obama’s plans to extend US presence. That means that his successor will have to address what to do with troop levels in Afghanistan. She did not provide any specific plans for Afghanistan at this point, but she said, “We have invested a lot of blood and a lot of treasure in trying to help that country and we can’t afford for it to become an outpost of the Taliban and ISIS one more time, threatening us, threatening the larger world.”

Clinton Hosts Community Events in Iowa

For her second day in Iowa, Clinton attended two town hall events. The first was at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon. Clinton spoke briefly about the primary points of her platform before taking questions from those in attendance. Among the topics that Clinton covered were gun control, Kim Davis’, Rowan County, Kentucky County Clerk, refusal to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, and her distaste for super PACs. Specifically about PACs and their lack of transparency, Clinton said, “I and others have said we’re not going to unilaterally disarm while the Republicans and the Koch brothers are out there raising money that they don’t even tell you where it came from.”

Later in the afternoon, Clinton took part in a town hall at the Westfair Amphitheater on the fairgrounds in Council Bluffs. Clinton addressed a number of topics including the economy, equal pay for women, immigration reform, gun control, and making higher education more affordable. Heath care continues to be a topic for concern for Clinton, and she continues to call for lower prescription drug prices saying, “We need people who are just going to rise up —you have to sell drugs at affordable prices in this country. That’s what I’m going to be fighting for every single day.”

Clinton Hosts Iowa Events

On Tuesday, Hillary Rodham Clinton hosted two events in the key swing state of Iowa. She began the day at a community forum in Davenport. During the event, Clinton spoke about heath care saying that more needed to be done to give Iowans and Americans more affordable choices. She also spoke about gun control and called for background checks, reducing higher education costs, and fighting poverty. She also criticized Jeb Bush for his “stuff happens” comment in regards to the mass shooting in Oregon. Bush was campaigning nearby Bettendorf. After speaking briefly, Clinton took questions from the crowd. Videos from the event in Davenport are below.

Following the event, Clinton took the the streets in Davenport where she met with voters and went shopping in a local market. Later in the day, Clinton attended an organizing event at the Strawberry Farm Bed and Breakfast in Muscatine. Clinton, again, spoke about her plans as president, but she took a moment to talk about her Republican rivals and their difficulty naming any of her accomplishments as Secretary of State in the recent Republican debate. So, she sent them each a copy of her book! She said, “You know, I hear the Republicans talking from time to time in their debates and elsewhere and they say things like, ‘Oh, I don’t know what she accomplished as Secretary of State. She didn’t accomplish anything.’ I listened to that for a while. And then I thought maybe they just don’t know, so I have now sent each of them a copy of my book, Hard Choices, about what we did during those four years.” She joked that there are enough candidates running on the Republican ticket that they could start a book club. She then went on to discuss a number of her accomplishments at the State Department.

Clinton Makes Third Trip to Iowa

Since announcing her presidential campaign in April, Hillary Rodham Clinton has made two stops in Iowa. Today, she was in Iowa again, visiting Iowa City where she addressed a large crowd of supporters. In her speech, Clinton hit on a number of topics including women’s access to health care, the environment, gun control, and the recent Supreme Court decisions upholding the Affordable Care Act and legalizing same-sex marriage. As Iowa City is the home of Iowa State University, Clinton also spoke about the rising cost of college tuition and called for making college more affordable. After her speech, she took questions from reporters on topics ranging from the Greek debt crisis and her fellow Democratic competitor, Bernie Sanders.

Following her stop in Iowa City, Clinton headed for Ottumwa where she met with supporters at a grassroots organizing event. She then took questions from the crowd. Hillary for America has been very active in Iowa since April, and the campaign has started organizing larger events for Clinton as she continues to travel across the country.

Clinton talks Health Care in New Hampshire

On Friday, Clinton met with the citizens of Hanover, New Hampshire. She delivered a speech to an estimated crowd of 850 at The Bema. Clinton focused her attacks on Republicans and their reaction to the recent Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act. Clinton said the Republican candidates would repeal the act after taking office. Clinton also spoke about the need for new gun control laws and the potential nuclear deal with Iran. She also confronted recent criticism by defending her record as a liberal. She said, “I will fight hard against what I see as the injustice and unfairness in our society. I take a back seat to no one when you look at my record of standing up and fighting for progressive values.”

After giving her speech, Clinton went to Lebanon where she visited with people at Dairy Twirl ice cream parlor. She continues to focus on a grass roots effort in the early stages of the campaign. Follow along by following Clinton on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

National Council for Behavioral Health Conference

Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared at the National Council for Behavioral Health Conference in Maryland. While most of Clinton’s speeches up to this point have largely focused on women’s rights and foreign policy, she spoke about a number of domestic policy issues. Clinton spoke about the media’s role in the unpopularity of the Affordable Care Act, but again she expressed her openness to future changes. She also spoke at length about gun control. She stressed that she fully supports gun ownership, but that the current system makes it too easy for guns to get into the hands of those who misuse them. She said, “We have to rein in what has become [an] almost article of faith, that anybody can own a gun anywhere, anytime. And I don’t believe that.”
