Hillary Clinton on Space and STEM

While a lot has been published about Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump’s platform plans for foreign and domestic policies, most outlets have ignored thier stance on science, STEM, and space exploration. Clinton has outlined proposals to combat climate change and increase research for certain diseases, but a number of prominent science and space publications have asked the candidates for their thoughts on science and space exploration. If you consider STEM education, science, and space exploration to be important factors in your decision for whom to vote, which you should, check out the publications below for a better understanding of the positions of Clinton and Trump.

• The Planetary Society – The Planetary Society is a non-profit group that specializes in space policy. They help fund missions and inform members of Congress on issues related to space. The group has assembled the key positions on space offered by Clinton and Trump.

• Science News – As the official magazine for the Society for Science & the Public, the editorial board released a breakdown of where the candidates stand on specific science policies including space exploration, genetic research, climate change, health, vaccines, gun violence, and STEM education. • Scientific American – As one of the most popular science magazines in the country, Scientific American is a great resource for the latest in the realm of scientific research. Readers of the magazines voted on the 20 top questions they wanted to ask each presidential candidate, and all four candidates responded. A number of topics are covered including innovation, research, climate change, the internet and technology, education, nuclear power, and access to clean water. • ReCode – The tech site run by tech journalists Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher, ReCode is an advocate for STEM education. In an article published on November 5, Luther Lowe outlined Clinton’s dedication to STEM and education from her time as First Lady of Arkansas, First Lady of the United States, Senator from New York, and Secretary of State. Clinton Holds Press Conference This Morning

Before leaving for North Carolina today, Hillary Clinton held a press conference with members of her press pool. In an opening statement, Clinton criticized Donald Trump for, again, praising Russian President Vladimir Putin during last night’s Commander-in-Chief Forum. She also questioned his judgement after he hinted at some thing he learned during his first classified briefing saying, “I think what he said was totally inappropriate and undisciplined.” Clinton then answered questions on a number of topics including recent poll numbers, Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson not knowing that Aleppo is a city in Syria, and a question about criticisms that she needs to smile more. Bill Clinton Campaigns for Hillary in Indiana

On Saturday, Bill Clinton campaigned for Hillary Clinton in Indiana ahead of Tuesday’s primary. This morning, Bill attended the Howard County Democratic Party’s Pre-Primary Pancake Breakfast in Kokomo. He spoke briefly about Hillary’s platform plans and criticized Republicans for their constant attacks on Hillary. He focused on manufacturing, a topic that is very important to Indianans. He said, “One of the most interesting victories she had in this election was in Ohio. She won by twice the margin she was predicted to win by because they were interested in building tomorrow’s manufacturing economy, not pretending we could go back to yesterday.” A video of his speech is below.

In Fort Wayne, Bill spoke to Hillary’s supporters saying that she was the most prepared candidate to be prepared. After being introduced by Mayor Tom Henry, Indiana Democratic U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly and former Indiana governor and U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh, Bill spoke about a number of Hillary’s platform points including health care, higher education, and the economy. Once again, he spoke about manufacturing jobs and their importance in continued economic growth. A video from the event held at McMillen Park Community Center is below.

Bill’s final event of the day was in Gary where he spoke to a crowd of supporters at 504 Broadway. He spoke about Hillary’s experience and her drive to change things saying, “You need a change maker, not a change talker.” He also spoke about a number of her platform points including health care, economic growth, jobs, gun control, and the cost of higher education. Bill spoke about the importance of the 2016 election and asked for voters’ support on Tuesday.
