Hillary Clinton Statement on CFPB Fine of Wells Fargo

Yesterday, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau imposed a $100 million fine on Wells Fargo for secretly creating hundreds of thousands of bank accounts for their customers. Hillary Clinton released the following statement:

“Yesterday, we learned that one of the largest banks in America secretly opened hundreds of thousands of bank and credit card accounts for their customers, moving money across accounts and charging fees without customer knowledge or consent. There is simply no place for this kind of outrageous behavior in America, and I applaud the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for its forceful response.

Donald Trump wants to dismantle the CFPB and repeal the crucial rules we put on Wall Street after the financial crisis, but yesterday’s action is a stark reminder of why we need a strong consumer watchdog to safeguard against unfair and deceptive practices. And it’s yet another example of how much is at stake in this election.”

Last night, Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders faced off in a debate in New Hampshire. The debate aired on MSNBC and was moderated by Chuck Todd and Rachel Maddow. During the debate, Sanders and Clinton went after each others’ records, but managed to stay on topic when it came to discussing policy. Some of the primary points of contention were Clinton’s ties to Wall Street, which of them is more progressive, and foreign policy. The fact that only two candidates were on stage made for a better debate and allowed Clinton and Sanders to point out where they differ. A video of last night’s debate is below.

On Sunday morning, Hillary Clinton appeared live on NBC’s Meet the Press. She appeared via satellite feed live from Iowa where she is currently campaigning. During the interview, host Chuck Todd asked Clinton about speaking fees she has accepted from Wall Street banks, the continued investigation into her private email server, and whether she believes her 2016 campaign mirrors her 2008 campaign. On the question about her current campaign lacking enthusiasm, she replied, “I can only react to what I’m doing, feeling, getting responses from people. I feel really great that we have the level of enthusiasm that we do. And we also have a really good team on the ground that’s been working for months to make sure it’s not here today, gone tomorrow.” A video from the interview will be added when/if available. For now, a transcript is available HERE.

12-14-15-z-02

In a speech on Monday night in Brooklyn, New York, Hillary Clinton provided more details about her plans for immigration reform at the National Immigration Integration Conference. While she has laid out aspects of her plan on her website, she went in more detail on her plan to provide more assistance to people eligible for citizenship including waiving fees, increasing access to language programs, and closing privately run detention centers. She criticized Republicans, particularly Marco Rubio and Donald Trump, for their anti-immigration rhetoric and the notion that anti-immigration policies are part of what is necessary to “make America great again.” She said, “There are millions of people in America who could be naturalized but for one reason or another, they’re not. So let’s help more of our neighbors claim their rights. It’s so powerful, so precious to be a citizen of the United States.” A video from last night’s event is below.

Today, Clinton gave a speech in Minneapolis, Minnesota outlining her plan to combat homegrown terrorism and radicalism. For all the latest, follow our Scheduled Events page and follow Clinton on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
