Hillary Clinton Statement on Amalgamated Transit Union Endorsement

Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of the Amalgamated Transit Union on Wednesday. In a release, ATU International President Larry Hanley said that Clinton is the clear choice in the election because of her dedication to working Americans. He said, “Secretary Clinton’s rallying cry – Stronger Together – is an expression of the fundamental principle that has guided the labor movement’s historic work delivering momentous improvements in Americans’ lives. Similarly, there is so much President Hillary Clinton and all of us will be able to accomplish together.” Clinton responded to the group’s endorsement with the following statement:

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Amalgamated Transit Union.

For more than a hundred years, ATU members have kept our cities running, powering our urban economies and helping countless people get to and from work every day. Along the way, they helped build the American middle class by fighting for fair wages, good benefits, and safe working conditions.

As President, I will proudly stand with ATU as we work to build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top, and make the minimum wage a living wage. We’ll invest in building 21st century infrastructure, including transit infrastructure, and make sure that our transit systems are designed to actually connect working people to jobs and economic opportunity. And we will protect the rights and dignity of all Americans–because we know that we are stronger together.

The stakes in this election could not be higher for working people. Donald Trump stood on a debate stage and said that wages are “too high” in this country. He opposes policies that would make it easier for people to balance work and family, including paid family leave and ensuring pay for women. He personally hired a union-busting firm to keep workers at his hotel in Las Vegas from organizing. Donald Trump is wrong for workers and he’s wrong for America.”

Hillary Clinton Campaigns in Tampa

On Monday, Hillary Clinton spoke at a rally in Tampa, Florida. Speaking at the University of South Florida, Clinton focused on her policy proposals focusing on the sharp contrast between her plans and those proposed by Republican Donald Trump. She spoke about her plans to create jobs and grow the economy, raise the minimum wage, combat Zika virus, make higher education more affordable, and reduce student loan debt interest rates. We’re going to make this economy grow, but we’re also going to make it fair,” she said about her plan to ensure incomes rise for all Americans and not just those in the highest income brackets. Clinton also criticized Trump for comments he made about solving the country’s problems alone. She said that working to improve the country “cannot be done by any one person. It must be done by all of us. That is something that Donald Trump does not understand.” A video of Clinton’s speech is below.

Trump Campaign Attempts to Mislead on Immigration Plan

Hillary for America Campaign Manager Robby Mook responded to the Trump campaigns attempts to gloss over Donald Trump’s plan to deport 16 million people with the following statement:

“Donald Trump has stated very clearly throughout his campaign that he will deport everyone who is undocumented, something that was reinforced in his speech in Arizona last Wednesday. Beyond forcibly removing every single undocumented person from this country, Trump has also promised to rescind DACA and DAPA, and deport American citizens who are born to undocumented immigrant parents. What we saw today is Mike Pence and Trump’s top campaign officials attempt to mislead voters about their mass deportation policy by using soft words to describe harsh tactics – one of the oldest tricks in the book. Immigrant families know the meanings of ‘humane’ and ‘fair’ and can see straight through their cynical ploys. Trump’s message to immigrant families is clear: everyone must go.”

HFA Statement on Trump’s Plan to Deport Every Undocumented Immigrant

Hillary for America Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri released the following statement reacting to Donald Trump’s plan to deport undocumented immigrants:

“Donald Trump reinforced today that he would deport 16 million people, including every undocumented immigrant and American citizens born here to undocumented parents.  Confirming what we’ve seen from the start of his campaign: Donald Trump will be Donald Trump. No one can change his hateful rhetoric or dangerous policies to send a deportation force into American communities, rescind DACA and DAPA, end birthright citizenship, and even ban remittances to families in Mexico in order to help build his giant wall. He may try to disguise his plans by throwing in words like “humane”  or ” fair,” but the reality remains that Trump’s agenda echoes the extreme right’s will–one that is fueling a dangerous movement of hatred across the country.

Enough is enough. Donald Trump must stop playing games with the lives of law-abiding immigrant families in order to save his campaign. These are families who contribute to the greatness of our country and that need a President who will fight to keep them together–not someone who will denigrate them and tear them apart.”

Clinton at the Iowa State Fair

On Saturday, Hillary Rodham Clinton visited the Iowa State Fair where she met with attendees and enjoyed fair food. She was joined by former Iowa Senator Tom Harkin. She also held a brief press conference where she answered questions about her emails, Iraq, and joining Snapchat. Clinton wasn’t the only presidential candidate at the fair, Republican candidate Donald Trump also made an appearance. A video from Clinton’s press conference can be found on C-SPAN.

After leaving Iowa, Clinton flew to Martha’s Vineyard where she met up with President Barack Obama and husband Bill Clinton (who spent the day playing golf together) to attend the birthday celebration of power broker Vernon Jordan.

Clinton Kicks off Iowa Visit

On Friday, Hillary Rodham Clinton kicked off her trip to Iowa for the Iowa State Fair. Her visit began as she received the endorsement of former Iowa Senator Tom Harkin. She began the day in Dubuque where she held a town hall discussing college affordability. After unveiling her plan earlier this week, Clinton expanded upon her proposal explaining that she would raise taxes on those who are more wealthy to help off-set the cost. The plan, which would cost $350 billion over 10 years, will make college more affordable and help those with student loans. “We have to make a quality education affordable and available without saddling young people with decades of debt,” she said. Clinton then spent time answering questions from the audience. A full video from the event is below.

Friday evening, Clinton attended the Iowa Democratic Wing Ding. She gave a speech to a large, receptive crowd, and she continued to talk about college affordability. But also used the opportunity to attack her Republican rivals by criticizing the their record and how strikingly similar the candidates appear. She said, “Don’t let the circus distract you, if you look at their policies, most of the other candidates are just Trump without the pizzazz or the hair. Yes, Mr. Trump says outrageous and hateful things about immigrants but how many of the other candidates disagree with him?” A full video from the Wing Ding is available on MSNBC.
