On Monday evening, Hillary Clinton spoke in Baltimore, Maryland at a fundraising event for Representative Elijah Cummings’ Youth Program in Israel. During her speech, Clinton spoke about the importance of the United States working with the global community to combat terrorism at home and abroad. She called for unity in the face of the recent terrorist attacks in London. Without saying his name, Clinton criticized President Donald Trump for his recent actions in the international community saying, “It’s a time for steady, determined leadership, like we are seeing from local authorities in London, including the mayor of London. This is not a time to lash out, to incite fear or to use tragedy and terror for political gain. On Friday, Hillary Clinton traveled to Houston, Texas where she spoke at a fundraising luncheon for Annie’s List. Clinton gave a short speech during the event in which she spoke about the United States’ actions against the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad and the Trump administration’s response. Clinton remarks were not focused on national politics. Instead, she spoke about the importance of turning Texas blue during the mid-term elections in 2018 and the next presidential election in 2020. She said, “A lot of the best young Democrats in America are right here in Texas, and that’s especially true for young Democratic women.” She urged everyone to keep fighting, and most importantly, voting adding, “I know we can win in 2018. On Friday, Hillary Clinton spoke at the Society of Irish Women’s dinner in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She spoke to the group for nearly twenty minutes about a number of topics including her local connections. Her grandfather worked in a Scranton lace mill for more than 50 years. She said that it was her father who left the area for Chicago, where she grew up. Clinton wrapped up her speech by hinting that she may be planning a political comeback soon. “I’m like a lot of my friends right now. I have a hard time watching the news, I’ll confess. On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton accepted an award from Girls, Inc. during a luncheon in New York. During the event, Clinton spoke about the importance of advancing equal rights for women and encouraged young women to get involved in politics. She warned that while things can be discouraging at times, its important to focus on the future. Clinton said, “Our work is far from over. In big ways and small, the unfinished business of the 21st century is the full equality of women. Late this past week, Hillary Clinton spoke with audiences at two major New England Colleges. First, on Thursday evening, Clinton spoke at a private, student and faculty only event on the campus of Wellesley College. As Clinton’s Alma Mater, the event focused on Clinton’s time at the school and her political career. Clinton spoke briefly and took questions from the audience. According to sources inside the room, Clinton was asked by one audience member about what she would have changed about her campaign. She responded simply, “I’d win.” Clinton graduated from Wellesley College in 1969 and is scheduled to give this year’s commencement address in May.
On Friday, Clinton took part in a series of “Fireside Chats” on the campus of Harvard University. Clinton’s appearance was part of the “American Secretaries of State Project: Diplomacy, Negotiation, and Statecraft” series sponsored by the Kennedy School, Law School, and Business School. She met with undergraduate members of the IOP’s Student Advisory Committee and a few lucky residents of Kirkland House. Clinton is the seventh former Secretary of State to take part in the series. Like the event at Wellesley College, it was closed to the public and press.
On Thursday, Hillary Clinton spoke at an event honoring fashion designer Oscar de la Renta. The United States Postal Service unveiled a new set of stamps honoring de la Renta and his work. Speaking at Grand Central Terminal, Clinton spoke about her friendship with de la Renta and his wife and praised his contribution to the world of fashion. She said, “Oscar de la Renta was an immigrant. And aren’t we proud and grateful that he was?” Others attending the event included Diane von Furstenberg, Valentino Garavani, Anna Wintour, and Michael Bloomberg. Hillary Clinton is returning to public spotlight. She has attended a few events since she lost the presidential race in November, but today several upcoming events were announced. The biggest announcement was from publisher Simon & Schuster who will publish a collection of personal essays by Clinton this fall. The book is described to include a number of her favorite quotes to “tell stories from her life, up to and including her experiences in the 2016 presidential campaign.” Simon & Schuster also announced a children’s book version of Clinton’s book, It Takes a Village, will be released in September. The new edition will feature illustrations by Marla Frazee and all proceeds will be donated to charity.
It was also announced that she will be returning to the speech circuit with several events planned in the coming months. The most notable will be a commencement address at Wellesley College, her alma mater. Clinton gained notoriety for becoming the first student speaker at her own commencement in 1969. Other speeches on tap for Clinton include an event at the United States Postal Service honoring fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, a speech organized by Vital Voices on International Women’s Day, and a speech at a New York LGBT Community Center. Hillary Clinton returned to Washington, DC to attend an event honoring retiring Nevada Senator Harry Reid. A number of people spoke at the event including Clinton. During her speech, Clinton spoke about Reid’s career in the Senate. She also spoke about the dangers of fake news following a shooting that took place following a fake news story. She said, “It’s now clear that so-called fake news can have real-world consequences. This isn’t about politics or partisanship. Lives are at risk, lives of ordinary people just trying to go about their days, to do their jobs, contribute to their communities.” Clinton was also present as Reid’s official portrait was unveiled. On Wednesday evening, Hillary Clinton spoke at a gathering in Washington, DC for the Children’s Defense Fund. It was her first speech since her concession speech a week ago, and she spoke about the election. She said that she understands everyone’s disappointment because she is also disappointed, but she urged everyone to keep fighting. “I know this isn’t easy. I know that over the past week a lot of people have asked themselves whether America is the country we thought it was. The divisions laid bare by this election run deep. But please, listen to me when I say this: America is worth it. Our children are worth it. Believe in our country, fight for our values, and never, ever give up,” she said.
Clinton also spoke about the importance of the Children’s Defense Fund and how no child should grow up living in fear and that “every child deserves the opportunity to live up to his or her potential.” She spoke about her mother’s story of being abandoned as a child and how no child should have to go through that. Hillary Clinton spent the final day of the campaign speaking at events in three states. She began at an event in Oakland, Pennsylvania where she outlined her vision of America and said that she wants “to be the president for all Americans, not just some.” She never mentioned Donald Trump by name, but she urged everyone to “rise above all of this hate-filled rhetoric.” She concluded her speech by asking everyone to get out and vote tomorrow adding, “I’m here to ask you to vote for yourselves, vote for your families, vote for your futures. … Because they are on the ballot.” A video from the event is below.
Clinton then traveled to Allendale, Michigan for a get out the vote rally on the campus of Grand Valley State University. Clinton focused more on her platform and the future of the country than she did her opponent. She spoke about her plans to create jobs, improve health care, make college more affordable, raise the minimum wage, and ensure equal pay for women. She said that if elected president, she will work for everyone and looks forward to working with Senators Debbie Stabenow and Bernie Sanders to pass a platform aimed at helping all Americans. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a rally was held in front of a crowd of several thousand. The event began with musical performances by Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen. Bill and Chelsea Clinton then took the stage and briefly spoke about the importance of the election. Next, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama each spoke about Clinton’s platform and how she is the only candidate to carry on the legacy of the Obama administration. When Clinton took the stage, she urged everyone to consider the future of the country saying that she is optimistic. She concluded by asking everyone to get out and vote tomorrow. Hillary, Bill, and Chelsea wrapped up the campaign at a midnight rally in Raleigh, North Carolina. The event opened with performances by Jon Bon Jovi and Lady Gaga, then Chelsea and Bill spoke. They spoke about the campaign and the importance of voting tomorrow. When Hillary took the stage, shorty before 1 am, she spoke about her optimistic vision of the future and urged everyone to vote for the future they envision for our country. “I believe it’s the most important election of our lifetime.
