HFA Supports Bipartisan Efforts to Extend Voting Hours in Durham County

Hillary for America Campaign Manager Robby Mook released the following statement in support of bipartisan efforts to extend voting hours in Durham County, NC:

“The Durham County Board of Elections — made up of two Republicans and one Democrat — has agreed that voting hours must be extended due to technical problems that occurred earlier today. We are urging the North Carolina Board of Elections to heed this bipartisan call and approve this urgent measure so that every voter can have their voice heard. Especially in light of the fact that Durham County had limited early voting sites, we have to ensure that voters have equal access to the ballot box.”

President Obama Campaigns in Michigan, New Hampshire

President Barack Obama campaigned for Hillary Clinton and down ballot Democrats in two states on the eve of the election. After being introduced by Chelsea Clinton in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Obama stressed the importance of electing Hillary Clinton because her vision for America will continue the progress made over the last eight years. He said, “I feel I’ve earned some credibility here. Plants that were closing when I took office are working double shift now. … When I tell you Donald Trump is not the guy who is going to work for you, you need to listen. … Don’t be bamboozled.” He went after Trump and called him “uniquely unqualified” to president. Obama concluded his speech by asking everyone to consider the future and vote tomorrow. Watch a video from the event tomorrow.

Obama then traveled to Durham, New Hampshire where he spoke with supporters about Clinton’s vision for the future and criticized Trump’s divisive rhetoric. Speaking to a packed crowd on the campus of University of New Hampshire, Obama urged everyone to get out and vote, and, more importantly, to consider the future of the country as they are submitting their ballot. Clinton’s motto “Stronger Together” is a vision for the future that ensures everyone has an opportunity and not just a privileged few. Hillary Clinton Campaigns with Mothers of the Movement in North Carolina

Hillary Clinton returned to North Carolina on Sunday where she spoke at a Sunday morning church service and two campaign events. At each of the events, she appeared with Mothers of the Movement, a group of women who have lost children as a the result of gun violence. She began this morning in Durham where spoke at Union Baptist Church. Clinton spoke about the importance of reducing violence, reforming the criminal justice system, and working to end the racial divide in our country. A video of Clinton’s remarks is below.

Clinton spoke to a crowd of supporters at St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh about her plans as president, but she also turned the focus of her message away from herself and on candidates running for office down ballot. She spoke about the importance of electing Democratic Senate candidate Deborah Ross in North Carolina, and Clinton encouraged voters to support Ross in addition to supporting her and Tim Kaine on November 8th. Clinton then traveled to Charlotte where she spoke to a group of supporters at the University of North Carolina – Charlotte. During her speech, Clinton went after Donald Trump for his pledge to not accept the results of the election saying that he is a “direct threat to our democracy.” Clinton then spoke about a number of her key platform proposals including a plan to invest in the infrastructure, increasing investments in the economy, and her plan to make college affordable for everyone. Clinton said that she understands that not everyone supports her and there will be people that vote for Trump, but she wants to be a president for everyone. “I want to be the president for every American – Democrats, Republicans, independents. We have to bring this country together. We have to have everyone pulling in the same direction. I understand some people are angry, but anger is not a plan,” she said. Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine Campaign in Pennsylvania

Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine campaigned together in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Their first event was in Pittsburgh where Kaine began by speaking about Clinton and their vision for the future. When Clinton took the stage, she had a populist tone speaking about a number of her key platform points including her plans to create jobs, invest in manufacturing jobs, raise the minimum wage, and her pledge to not raise taxes on middle class families. While she admitted that the campaign between her and Republican Donald Trump has been anything by calm, she hoped that everyone can come together after the election because we all have a stake in America’s future. “You probably know people who are thinking about voting for Donald Trump. I want you to tell them that I understand that they need a president who cares about them … and I want to be their president. Whether you vote for me or against me, I believe we can disagree without being disagreeable,” she added later. A video from the event is below.

Clinton and Kaine then traveled to Philadelphia where he spoke first about Clinton saying that despite what Trump says, he thinks that Clinton “looks damn presidential.” She then spoke to a crowd of over 7,000 supporters on a cool evening about the importance of the 2016 election and voting a Clinton-Kaine ticket to the White House, but she also stressed the importance of other down ballot races, especially the Pennsylvania race for Senate. She spoke about Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Katie McGinty and how she will work for Pennsylvanians in Congress. Clinton then urged everyone to vote on November 8th adding, “Friends don’t let friends vote Donald Trump.” A video from the rally is below.

Clinton and Kaine also spoke to reporters on board their plane between the events in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. They spoke about their focus during the last two weeks of the debate, and they react to a speech from Trump earlier in the day. Watch a video of the press briefing below.

Meanwhile, two fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was in Durham, North Carolina and featured a conversation with actress Angela Bassett. In Long Beach, California, a fundraising event was held featuring a conversation with singer Cher.

Tim Kaine Campaigns in North Carolina

On Thursday, Tim Kaine continued his campaign tour of North Carolina with events in Charlotte and Durham. During the event in Charlotte, Kaine spoke about Hillary Clinton’s platform and plans to ensure that the economy works for everyone and not just those at the top. He also referred to last night’s presidential debate praising Clinton for her performance. Kaine criticized Donald Trump for refusing to accept the outcome of the election saying, “has a profound misunderstanding for the institutions of government. … He is trying to upset a tradition that’s been one of the notable features of American life.” Kaine added, “This is not a television show, this is not a reality show. This is about running a country. You gotta do better than that.” Following the event, he spoke with members of the press. In Durham, Kaine spoke with supporters on the campus of North Carolina Central University. At the event, Kaine urged everyone to get out and vote on November 8th, and he spoke about the importance of the election. He said that he and Clinton are dedicated to to North Carolina, and they want to win the state. Kaine said, “If we can win North Carolina for Hillary Clinton we’re gonna win the whole thing. We’re gonna win the whole thing. I’m very good at elections. I’m 8-0. You can beat me in Scrabble, but not in elections. Hillary Clinton Campaigns with Senator Sanders in New Hampshire

Hillary Clinton and Senator Bernie Sanders teamed up for a campaign event focused on reducing the cost of higher education. Speaking at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, Senator Sanders spoke about his support for Hillary Clinton and her “new college compact.” Clinton then took the stage and spoke about a number of the compact’s key points including her plan to reduce interest rates on student loans and how future college students whose families make less than $125,000 per year will be able to graduate from a public college or trade school debt free. Speaking of her own experience following graduation she said, “I could never have done that if I had the kind of interest rates a lot of people are facing. We are going to fix it. This is wrong.” Clinton said that she believes it is wrong for the government to profit on students’ education. Hillary for America Canvasses the Country on National Voter Registration Day

September 27, 2016 is National Voter Registration Day and Hillary for America canvassed the country holding nearly 1,400 voter registration drives to ensure that Americans were registered to vote before their states’ deadlines. HFA released the following information outlining what they did today.

Following last night’s debate, Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine and high profile surrogates are back on the campaign trail today, marking National Voter Registration Day by barnstorming battleground states to raise awareness of voter registration deadlines and to discuss the high stakes of the November election. With important voter registration deadlines coming up soon, Hillary for America is capitalizing on today’s national day of action by organizing nearly 1,400 local voter registration events in communities across the country.

Every election, millions of Americans don’t get to cast their ballot because they missed their state’s registration deadline or didn’t know how to register. Hillary for America will build off the excitement from the debate to talk about importance of registering to vote ahead of registration deadlines by holding local voter registration events across the country.

“Last night, families across the country tuned into the first presidential debate and witnessed just how high the stakes are in this election. We’ve always said that this race would be won in the states, and with just six weeks to go, our ground game will be registering voters in communities across the country.” said Marlon Marshall, Hillary for America Director of State Campaigns and Political Engagement.

Started by young organizers, National Voter Registration Day is a day of action celebrated by thousands of organizations, businesses, local communities and celebrities to make sure that no one is left out on election day. Today, Hillary for America will join thousands of organizations, businesses, local communities and celebrities in working to raise awareness about voter registration deadlines.

Hillary for America will mark National Voter Registration day by continuing its ‘3 Million Stronger’ push to register or commit to vote 3 million voters. At voter registration events across the country and through digital activity – and campaign will be reminding people to make sure they’re ready to make their voice heard this election by visiting iwillvote.com to check their voter registration status or get registered to vote.

Hillary Clinton will also take that message on the road, campaigning in four battleground states in the four days coming out of the debate: Raleigh, North Carolina on Tuesday, Durham, New Hampshire on Wednesday, Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday and southern Florida on Friday. Today, Senator Tim Kaine will campaign in Florida and Vice President Joe Biden will campaign in Philadelphia. President Bill Clinton will travel to Ohio and starts his bus tour in Florida on Friday. First Lady Michelle Obama will campaign in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Chelsea Clinton will visit in North Carolina on Wednesday and Wisconsin on Friday, and Anne Holton will campaign in Michigan on today and Wednesday, in Iowa on Thursday and Wisconsin and Friday

Campaign Events held in support of Clinton in PA, OH, and NH

Today, a number of politicians and celebrities campaigned in support of Hillary Clinton while she prepares for Monday’s night’s debate with Republican Donald Trump. Chelsea Clinton began at an event at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in Pennsylvania. Chelsea spoke about her mother’s career saying, “I’m supporting her because she’s the most qualified person for the job.” Chelsea discussed a number of Hillary’s key platform points, including her plans to reduce the debt of students and ensure future generations of students can graduate from college debt-free.

Chelsea then traveled to Youngstown, Ohio where she was joined by actress Sally Field. At the event, Chelsea and Field spoke about why they are supporting Hillary and urged Ohioans to register to vote. Field said that she is a long time supporter of Hillary and will continue to work to ensure she is elected. Chelsea echoed that sentiment, and spoke about a number of Hillary’s proposals and how they differ from Trump’s. “Various analyst say that his tax plans would raise taxes on tens of millions of working class families, including millions of single mothers. I don’t think that’s a family value whether you’re standing here in Youngstown or anywhere across the country,” she said. A video from the Johnstown event is available on CSPAN.

In New Hampshire, Senator Elizabeth Warren spoke at a series of events across the state. She spoke at canvass events in Nashua and Manchester before speaking at an organizing event in Durham. At each of the events, Warren fired up supporters and volunteers by speaking about the importance of the election. Warren went after Trump calling him a “pathological liar” and attacked his hateful campaign. She said, “We’re here to say hate is not OK. We build a stronger America together. That’s what this is about.” In addition to Clinton, Warren also pledged her support for New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan who is seeking a seat in the US Senate. Members from the cast of West Wing were also on the campaign trail today in Ohio. Actors Richard Schiff, Allison Janney, Bradley Whitford, Dulé Hill, Joshua Malina, and Mary McCormack attended events in Boardman, Garfield Heights, Sandusky, Toledo. At each of the events, the actors took turns speaking to supporters and volunteers urging them to support Hillary and to register to vote by Ohio’s October 11 deadline. The cast members will remain in Ohio on Sunday for events in Columbus and Dayton.

Mothers of the Movement Campaigns for Clinton in North Carolina

The members of the Mothers of the Movement group spent Monday and Tuesday of this week campaigning on behalf of Hillary Clinton across North Carolina. The group of three mothers, united by the loss of a child due to gun violence, held a series of roundtable discussions and community events in Fayetteville, Durham, Greensboro, and Charlotte. At each event, the group told their stories and discussed a number of points outlined by Clinton including her plans for criminal justice reform and her proposal to reduce gun violence.

The mothers taking part in each event were Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner; Geneva Reed-Veal, the mother of Sandra Bland; and Maria Hamilton, the mother of Dontre Hamilton. Videos from the events will be posted when/if available.

Also on Tuesday, two fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America in Denver, Colorado. Each of the events featured a conversation with Maya Harris, HFA Senior Policy Advisor.

Tim Kaine, Chelsea Clinton Campaign for Hillary

Tim Kaine, Anne Holton, and Chelsea Clinton were on the campaign trail today in various states. Kaine spoke at a rally in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he told a crowd of students and supporters about Hillary Clinton’s plan to reduce the debt of college students and ensure that students whose families make less than $125,000 a year can attend a public college or university debt free. Speaking at the University of Michigan, Kaine also expressed his confidence in Hillary’s judgement saying, “I want a commander-in-chief with judgment. I would trust Hillary Clinton with my son’s life and Donald Trump scares me to death.” A video of Kaine’s speech is below.

Chelsea was in North Carolina where she began two days of campaigning in the area. She began in Winston-Salem where she took part in a panel discussion about women in leadership. The group discussed a number of topics including the importance of an education and the wage gap. Chelsea then traveled to Durham where she spoke at the opening of a campaign office. She thanked volunteers and urged them to get out and talk to voters. She spoke about the importance of the election saying, “This is the most important presidential election of my lifetime,” she said. “Whomever we elect will play a fundamental role in shaping the future that my children and their generation grow up in.” A video from Chelsea’s panel at Wake Forest University is below.

Anne Holton, the wife of Kaine, attended an event at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. The former Secretary of Education for the state of Virginia spoke about Hillary’s plans to help college students repay debt and ensure that future college students do not go into debt. She explained, “Part of Hillary’s plan is to make community college tuition free, to make Pell grants year-round so that students can continue their education in the summers when otherwise appropriate and then to make college debt-free for everybody.” Holton then answered questions from students in attendance. Meanwhile, three fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was an evening with BD Wong in Boston, Massachusetts. Then, in Atlanta, Georgia, a LGBTQ Friends and Allies for Hillary event was held. The final event was a discussion of the environment and election with Ion Yadigaroglu and Kristina Costa. The event was held in New York City.
