On Monday, Tim Kaine campaigned in Florida beginning with a rally in Lakeland. During his speech, Kaine spoke about a number of Hillary Clinton’s platform points and about her personally. He framed her as a hard worker with supporters on both sides of the aisle saying, “Even when folks have been battling with her about stuff, she knows them. And in the Senate, which I know better than the House, there’s high regard for her work ethic, (and a view that) we can work together with her.” Kaine also spoke about tonight’s debate between Clinton and Republican Donald Trump saying he is anxious to see Trump answer for a number of his lies. Kaine then traveled to Orlando where he attended a roundtable discussion with a group of Latino community leaders. During the event, Kaine spoke about the importance of Latino voters and urged them to register. He also spoke about Clinton’s proposals for immigration reform and how they are starkly different from those of Trump. “We should be a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws. Our focus shouldn’t be on deportation en masse, it should be on people who pose serious safety challenges,” he said. A series of fundraisers were held today on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was a Disability Action for Hillary event in Washington, DC. The event featured a conversation with Eric H. Holder, Jr., 82nd Attorney General of the United States. A fundraiser in support of the Hillary Victory fund was held for American Citizens living in the Toronto, Canada area.
Thursday was a full day on the campaign trail with ten events being held on behalf of Hillary Clinton across the country and around the world. Clinton’s running mate, Time Kaine, held a rally in Reno, Nevada where he spoke to supporters at the University of Nevada Reno. During his speech, Kaine spoke about a variety of Clinton’s proposals including her plans to combat climate change, reduce the cost of higher education, equal rights for women and members of the LGBTQ community, and paid leave. As he spoke, Kaine compared Clinton’s views with those of Donald Trump saying that he cannot be trusted. “People who trust Trump tend to get hurt by Trump,” he said. Kaine’s wife, Anne Holton, was in Ohio where she took part in four events. Holton began in Trotwood where she held a discussion on the topic of Veterans and Military Families. She spoke about Clinton’s plans to improve the Department of Veterans Affairs and ensure that military families were cared for while their loved one serves their country. In Columbus, Holton focused on early childhood education during a visit to Childhood League Center. Holton, the former Secretary of Education for Virginia, spent time with a preschool class and spoke with educators. At Holton’s final events of the day, in Delaware and Zanesville, she spoke with supporters about a number of Clinton’s platform points. Videos from the events will be added when/if available.
Chelsea Clinton attended events in Ohio and Michigan. In Toledo, Ohio, Chelsea spoke to a group of students and supporters on the campus of the University of Toledo. She spoke about a number of mother’s proposals, but focused more on her plans to reduce the cost of higher education and reduce the debt of those who have graduated from college. Chelsea said that Hillary’s plans are important because, “No one should have to make a professional choice to service debt.” Following her speech, Chelsea stopped by the local Hillary for America office in Toledo where she thanked volunteers for their hard work.
Chelsea then traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan for a Women for Hillary event. During her speech, Chelsea focused on women and family issues saying, “My mom understands that women’s issues aren’t just women’s issues; they’re family issues and economic issues. And she understands that economic issues aren’t just economic issues, they’re also women’s issues and family issues.” Chelsea then traveled to Lansing where she spoke at a Students for Hillary event at Michigan State University. She spoke about the Hillary’s plan to help college students and reduce student debt. Following her speech, Chelsea answered questions from those in attendance. Meanwhile, a fundraiser was held on behalf of Hillary for America in Vienna, Austria. The event was only open to American citizens and featured a conversation with William C. Eacho, former United States Ambassador to Austria (2009 – 2013).
The members of the Mothers of the Movement group spent Monday and Tuesday of this week campaigning on behalf of Hillary Clinton across North Carolina. The group of three mothers, united by the loss of a child due to gun violence, held a series of roundtable discussions and community events in Fayetteville, Durham, Greensboro, and Charlotte. At each event, the group told their stories and discussed a number of points outlined by Clinton including her plans for criminal justice reform and her proposal to reduce gun violence.
The mothers taking part in each event were Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner; Geneva Reed-Veal, the mother of Sandra Bland; and Maria Hamilton, the mother of Dontre Hamilton. Videos from the events will be posted when/if available.
Also on Tuesday, two fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America in Denver, Colorado. Each of the events featured a conversation with Maya Harris, HFA Senior Policy Advisor.
On Wednesday, both Bill and Chelsea Clinton were on the campaign trail for Hillary Clinton. In Las Vegas, Nevada, Bill spoke for over half an hour about a wide variety of topics including Hillary’s email scandal, Donald Trump’s immigration proposals, and Hillary’s plan to create millions of jobs across the country. Bill also addressed his wife’s health issues saying, “She’s feeling great, and I think she’ll be back out there tomorrow [Thursday in North Carolina]. It’s a crazy time we live in, you know, when people think there’s something unusual about getting the flu. Last time I checked, millions of people were getting it every year.” A video of Bill’s speech is below.
Chelsea campaigned for Hillary today in North Carolina and Virginia. Wrapping up a two-day visit to North Carolina, Chelsea began in Raleigh where she took part in a panel of local leaders. She spoke about the importance of North Carolina in the November election and how her mother is relying on them to get out and vote. Then, in Carrboro, Chelsea spoke at a voter registration outside the local Democratic Party headquarters. She, again, spoke about the importance of voting in the November election.
She then tour a pre-k center before speaking at an organizing event in Roanoke, Virginia. Chelsea spoke about her mother’s college affordability plan which would reduce the amount of debt owed by those currently paying on student loans and ensure that future students, with family incomes of under $125,000, can finish college debt free. Chelsea said that Hillary wants to help young people build a future and reducing college debt is a big part of that plan. “We have to make investments in our young people from the beginning and then, all the way through,” she said. Meanwhile, a fundraiser was held in Washington, DC on behalf of Hillary for America. The event featured a conversation with Senator Debbie Stabenow, Senator Sherrod Brown, Senator Joe Donnelly, Senator Heidi Heitkamp, and Senator Tammy Baldwin.
Tim Kaine, Anne Holton, and Chelsea Clinton were on the campaign trail today in various states. Kaine spoke at a rally in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he told a crowd of students and supporters about Hillary Clinton’s plan to reduce the debt of college students and ensure that students whose families make less than $125,000 a year can attend a public college or university debt free. Speaking at the University of Michigan, Kaine also expressed his confidence in Hillary’s judgement saying, “I want a commander-in-chief with judgment. Chelsea was in North Carolina where she began two days of campaigning in the area. She began in Winston-Salem where she took part in a panel discussion about women in leadership. The group discussed a number of topics including the importance of an education and the wage gap. Chelsea then traveled to Durham where she spoke at the opening of a campaign office. She thanked volunteers and urged them to get out and talk to voters. She spoke about the importance of the election saying, “This is the most important presidential election of my lifetime,” she said. “Whomever we elect will play a fundamental role in shaping the future that my children and their generation grow up in.” A video from Chelsea’s panel at Wake Forest University is below.
Anne Holton, the wife of Kaine, attended an event at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. The former Secretary of Education for the state of Virginia spoke about Hillary’s plans to help college students repay debt and ensure that future college students do not go into debt. She explained, “Part of Hillary’s plan is to make community college tuition free, to make Pell grants year-round so that students can continue their education in the summers when otherwise appropriate and then to make college debt-free for everybody.” Holton then answered questions from students in attendance. Meanwhile, three fundraisers were held on behalf of Hillary for America. The first was an evening with BD Wong in Boston, Massachusetts. Then, in Atlanta, Georgia, a LGBTQ Friends and Allies for Hillary event was held. The final event was a discussion of the environment and election with Ion Yadigaroglu and Kristina Costa. The event was held in New York City.
Tim Kaine and his wife, Anne Holton, were on the campaign trail on behalf of Hillary Clinton today. Kaine spoke in Dayton, Ohio about Hillary’s plans for making college education more affordable by making public colleges debt-free for students with a family income of less than $125,000. The plan would also help those with existing student loans reduce their interest rates. While the education plan was intended to be the primary topic of discussion, Kaine spent some time addressing Clinton’s diagnosis with pneumonia. Speaking with reporters, he said that she was getting better, adding, “I lived through something very similar in my first race (for elected office) and I kind of know what the thinking was, which was ‘OK, we’ve got a diagnosis, it’s serious, but something a lot of people manage.” A video from the event is below.
Holton held two events on behalf of Hillary today in Fort Myers, Florida where she held a roundtable discussion with area teachers. She assured them that education is one of Hillary’s top priorities. Holton expressed her disappointment about the low teacher salaries in Florida and the number of standardized tests students are subjected to. Holton is the former Secretary of Education for the state of Virginia.
Meanwhile, in New York City, James Carville attended a fundraiser on behalf of Hillary for America.
On Friday, Hillary Clinton convened a group of bipartisan National Security experts to discuss a number of global issues. The key focus of the group’s discussion was defeating ISIS and combating terrorism. Following the meeting, Clinton held a press briefing during which she spoke about the importance of Republicans and Democrats working together on issues of national security. She also criticized Donald Trump saying that the experts she has spoken with are “chilled” by what Trump has said and proposed. Hillary Clinton today brought together a bipartisan group of distinguished national security officials to discuss the challenges our next commander-in-chief will face. Chelsea was in Scranton, Pennsylvania where she spoke about her mother’s softer side as well as several points from her campaign platform. She focused on family and educating that Hillary’s plans would ensure that incomes for all families will rise. Chelsea stressed the importance of the upcoming election urging voters not to wane in support of her mother. “My mother will make sure we all live in a country that we want our children to grow up in. Tim Kaine and Anne Holton campaigned in four New Hampshire cities today. Kaine and his wife stopped at two Hillary for America offices and a local Democratic party office today where they spoke with volunteers and Holton helped out with a phone bank. Kaine and Holton visited offices in Dover, Laconia, Manchester, and Nashua. At three of the four events, Kaine and Holton spoke with Hillary Clinton supporters as well as campaign volunteers. Kaine thanked the volunteers and urged them to keep fighting. He also spoke with voters urging them to come out and support himself and Clinton in November.
At the event in Manchester, Kaine and Holton took part in a roundtable discussion at Manchester Community College. The discussion focused on education and featured a professor from the college and former Governor John Lynch. Holton is the former Secretary of Education for the state of Virginia, and she and Kaine spoke about the importance of higher education and ensuring that students are not burdened by loan debt after college. On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton announced her plan to support small businesses. She also announced “Nuestros Negocios, Nuestra América,” a program aimed at empowering Latino small business owners to assist with voter registration. In a statement, Hillary for America said that this national voter registration effort will ensure everyone has a voice of the 2016 election. A copy of the statement is below.
As Hillary Clinton releases a plan to make life easier for small businesses at every step of the way, Hillary for America is launching a national voter registration effort, “Nuestros Negocios, Nuestra América” (Our businesses, Our America), led by Latino small business owners across the country. “Hillary recognizes that Latino small business owners are the bedrock of our neighborhoods and that’s why she tasked us to build a program that would empower them to mobilize Latinos to the polls. And Latino small business owners know that Hillary Clinton will have their backs as president,” stated Lorella Praeli, National Director of Latino Vote.
As part of “Nuestros Negocios, Nuestra América,” the campaign is calling on Latino small business owners to help register voters in their communities and educate, engage, and activate Latino voters. Small business owners will volunteer their spaces to host canvass kick-offs, debate watch-parties, round-table discussions or stage Get Out the Vote efforts. Throughout the week “Nuestros Negocios, Nuestra América” will hold events across the country.
