dem-2016-clinton

On Thursday, Hillary Clinton was in New York City where she spoke at a brief press conference outside of Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Clinton was primarily asked about the upcoming New York primary and the race between her and Bernie Sanders. Clinton avoided criticizing Sanders directly and said that it was going to be important to unite the party against the Republicans in November. She said, “I will take Bernie Sanders over Donald Trump or Ted Cruz any time. Let’s keep our eye on what’s really at stake in this election. We have Republicans whose values are so antithetical to what is right for New York or right for America.” A full video of the press conference is below.

While in New York, Clinton also attended a fundraiser in Mount Kisco. The event was held at the home of Marco Masotti and Tracy Stein. Clinton then traveled to Denver, Colorado where she attended a fundraiser. Also attended the event were Governor John and Robin Hickenlooper. The fundraiser also included performances by The Fray and Big Head Todd & The Monsters.

Hillary Clinton Sits Down with Rachel Maddow

Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 5.49.35 PM

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton sat down with Rachel Maddow at the Apollo Theater for an interview which aired last night on MSNBC. During the interview, Clinton and Maddow spoke about a number of topics including Republican front-runner Donald Trump and his recent comments about abortion, her primary battle against Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, and a number of her platform points and positions. One of the interesting distinctions that is becoming clear between Clinton and Sanders is that while Clinton is focused on the Democratic party and ensuring that other Democrats are elected, Sanders is only concerned about the primary and winning the nomination. Clinton understand the broader importance of the election and is fighting for Democratic successes in Congress as well. A full transcript of the interview can be read HERE, and a video from the interview can be watched below.

On Monday, Hillary Clinton pulled off a narrow victory in the Iowa caucuses, with 49.9% over Bernie Sanders’ 49.5%. In race that was too close to call until the end, Clinton won by a small margin. Marin O’Malley, who received less than 1% of the vote, announced that he was suspending his campaign. In Des Moines, Clinton was joined on stage by Bill and Chelsea when she gave her speech, but she did not go so far to call last night a victory. She thanked Iowans for their support and said that she looks forward to the primaries to come. She said, “It is rare, it is rare that we have the opportunity we do now. To have a real contest of ideas, to really think hard about what the Democratic Party stands for and what we want the future of our country to look like if we do our part to build it. I am a progressive who gets things done for people. I am honored to stand in the long line of American reformers who make up our minds that the status quo is not good enough, that standing still is not an option and that brings people together to find ways to improve the lives of Americans.” A video of her speech is below.
