Al Gore Campaigns for Hillary in Colorado

Al Gore returned to the campaign trail on Monday. He campaigned on behalf of Hillary Clinton at events in Boulder and Lakewood, Colorado. Gore spoke about the importance of the election and its potential impact on the climate. He said that Clinton is the only candidate that admits climate change is real and offers a viable plan to combat its affects. “This election in particular is a climate election. You don’t have to go very far from downtown Boulder to answer the question of, ‘must we change?'” Gore then spoke about the importance of voting and encouraged everyone to get out tomorrow adding, “The outcome of this election is going to be up to you. Take it from me — every vote counts. (This election) is not just between two people with two different personalities, two different styles and approaches; it’s between two different governing policies. When all of the shouting dies down, that’s when the real decisions take place. This election means the world. Clinton understands that we must change. She understands that the international process requires a president that’s willing to stand up. The other candidate says he’s opposed to all of those things. To me, it seems it’s an extremely clear choice. We can do it. Let’s elect Hillary Clinton.” A video of his speech in Boulder is below.

Hillary’s Plan: Supreme Court Justices

Clinton Will Appoint Supreme Court Justices Who Affirm Our Rights, While Trump’s Justices Will Roll Rights Back

The fourth topic for tonight’s debate is the Supreme Court. America’s next president could nominate multiple Supreme Court justices and the stakes could not be higher. Appointments made in the next four years could determine the makeup of the Court for decades to come. Hillary Clinton will appoint justices who will affirm the dignity and equality of all Americans. In contrast, Donald Trump will appoint justices who will roll back hard-fought rights.

*Considering Trump has been involved in more than 4,000 lawsuits, he should know this is not how the justice system works.

Hillary Clinton will appoint justices to the Supreme Court who will protect the constitutional principles of liberty and equality for all, and make sure Roe v. Wade remains the law of the land and women retain the right to make their own deeply personal healthcare decisions. Hillary will make sure the scales of justice aren’t tipped away from individuals toward corporations and special interests. And she will protect citizens’ right to vote, rather than billionaires’ right to buy elections.

Donald Trump has demonstrated his desire to appoint justices who would roll back rights Americans have fought for over decades. As president, Trump will:

• Appoint justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade.
• Appoint justices who would overturn the Supreme Court’s decision on marriage equality.
• Appoint justices who would weaken the Affordable Care Act.
• Consider justices with a history of supporting restrictive voter ID laws.
• Consider the heritage of an American citizen when evaluating fitness to serve as a federal judge.
• Pursue policies that ignore cornerstone constitutional principles, including imposing a religious test on immigrants; profiling U.S. Muslims; registering all Muslims in a “database”; punishing women for having an abortion; nationalizing New York City’s old stop-and-frisk policy; shutting down religious institutions; “open up those libel laws”; and retroactively repealing birthright citizenship.

Clinton Shows Foreign Policy Strength at Forum

During NBC’s Commander-in-Chief forum on Wednesday night, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump faced off for the first time. While they were interviewed separately, that did not stop them from attacking each others proposals during their conversation with moderator Matt Lauer. Clinton was interviewed first by Lauer, and she spoke about her qualifications saying that she believes that a strong commander-in-chief is “an absolute rock steadiness and mixed with strength to be able to make the hard decisions. I’ve had the unique experience of watching and working with several presidents, and these are not easy decisions.”

Clinton was asked about a wide variety of topics including her support of the Iraq war, the decision to intervene in Libya, the Iran nuclear agreement, her proposal to end the Veterans Affairs backlog, and her plan to defeat ISIS. She demonstrated her strength as a policy wonk by being able to clearly outline her policy proposals. However, Clinton was defensive as she fielded questions from the audience about her judgement and faced questions from Lauer about her emails and her handling of classified materials. Audience members asked some tough questions and some of Clinton’s answers were indirect.

Overall, the forum was a preview of what is come later this month and  Clinton and Trump face off in their first debate on September 26. While the forum has received mixed reviews, Clinton clearly demonstrated her knowledge of the issues, but she needs to work on convincing the American public that she is trustworthy. During Trump’s portion of the forum, he made a number of claims that prompted several responses from Clinton’s campaign. Retired Marine General John R. Allen Endorses Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of retired Marine General John R. Allen earlier this week. In a statement, General Allen said that he supported Clinton because of her “patience and a deep comprehension of the international landscape.” He went on to say that he has avoided the political arena, but felt like endorsing Clinton now was the time to speak up. Read General Allen’s statement below.

“Through 37 years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps, I saw some of the toughest challenges that our nation faces around the world, and I know that America has the power to meet those challenges. However, it requires continued leadership and engagement in the world, continued partnership with our allies, and a clear understanding of our adversaries. It requires patience and a deep comprehension of the international landscape to make smart decisions about when and how to use military force as well as an understanding that other tools of American power such as diplomacy and development aid – that will armed forces out of harm’s way unless it is absolutely necessary.  And it requires a leader who wants to understand these complex issues and seek advice and counsel.  Hillary Clinton is all of those things. 

This has been a very personal decision for me. I have stayed out of the political arena my entire adult life, but given the complexities of issues facing our country today and its longtime allies, I felt compelled to speak up and be heard. I have no doubt that she is the leader we need at this time to keep our country safe, and I trust her with that most sacred responsibility of Commander-in-Chief.”
